What each game really costs
The house edge is the share of every pound staked that a game keeps on average over the long run. A lower number means your budget lasts longer; it never means you should expect to win. See casino odds and maths for how these are worked out.
| Game and bet | House edge | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Blackjack (basic strategy) | 0.28% to 0.62% | Depends on the table rules |
| Baccarat: Banker bet | 1.06% | After the 5% commission |
| Craps: Pass line | 1.41% | Add free odds to lower it |
| European roulette | 2.70% | One zero, 37 pockets |
| Sic bo: Big or Small | 2.78% | Loses to any triple |
| Crazy Time | 3.92% to 5.59% | Varies by bet |
| American roulette | 5.26% | Two zeros, 38 pockets |
| Keno | about 25% to 29% | Typical pay tables |

What BonusKing is: an independent guide to casino games and UK casinos
BonusKing is an independent UK information site about casino games and UK-licensed online casinos, written by the BonusKing editorial team. Our angle is simple: what a game really costs, explained without hype. Every guide gives the payout, the true chance of winning and the house edge, then turns those figures into pounds so you can see the price of an evening’s play before you start.
The site covers the table games (from blackjack and roulette to baccarat and craps), slots and their features, live casino and game shows, bonuses and payments, and the reference material behind them: maths, UK rules, history and safer gambling. We also review five UK-licensed casinos that we have commercial partnerships with, and our advertiser disclosure explains exactly how that works.
How to use this casino games guide
Start from what you want to know. If you are new to a game, open its hub and read the rules page first, then the page on the bets. If you already play, the casino maths section explains the ideas that matter most, such as RTP, volatility and expected value, and the house edge calculator works out the average cost of your usual stake.
- Choosing a game: our guide to choosing a game compares cost, speed and complexity.
- Choosing a casino: the UK casino reviews set out licence, owner, welcome terms, payments and support for each partner.
- Checking a rule: the UK rules hub covers stake limits, the 10x wagering cap, age checks and complaints.
- Quick answers: our questions section answers single queries in a few paragraphs.
How we check casino figures and casinos
We check game figures against the developer’s published rules and RTPs and against standard game maths, using Wizard of Odds house edge calculations (opens in a new tab) for the sums. UK rules are checked against Gambling Commission and GOV.UK sources. Casino facts come from each operator’s terms, help pages and its entry on the Gambling Commission public register (opens in a new tab).
We don’t claim to have played, deposited or timed anything: our pages are researched explanations of what operators and developers publish. Every page shows the date it was last checked, offers were last checked on 5 October 2026, and if you spot an error you can email us and we will correct it. The full process is in our editorial policy and in how we review casinos.
What the house edge means for you as a player
The house edge is the share of each stake the casino keeps on average over a very large number of bets. It is a long-run figure, so any single session can land well above or well below it, but over time it is what you pay for the entertainment. The sum is short: expected loss equals stake multiplied by house edge.
| Stake per bet | Bets per hour | House edge | Average cost per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| £10 | 60 | 2.70% | £16.20 |
| £2 | 60 | 2.70% | £3.24 |
| £1 | 300 | 4.00% | £12.00 |
| £1 | 300 | 2.00% | £6.00 |
Two things follow. Speed matters as much as the edge: a cheap game played fast can cost more per hour than a dearer one played slowly, which is why our cost per hour guide counts rounds as well as percentages. And no staking pattern changes the edge, however a run of results looks. Set a budget you are happy to lose, and if gambling stops being fun, the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 is free and open 24 hours a day.

Frequently asked questions
Is BonusKing a casino?
No. BonusKing is an independent information site, not a gambling operator, so you can’t deposit or play here. We explain how casino games work, what they cost and how the UK rules protect you, and we review five UK-licensed casinos. If you follow one of our links to a partner casino and sign up, we may earn a commission, which our advertiser disclosure explains in full. Commission never changes our figures or our verdicts.
Which casino game has the lowest house edge?
Blackjack played with good basic strategy under favourable rules usually costs the least, followed by the banker and player bets in baccarat and some craps bets. Single-zero roulette sits at 2.70%, while most slots keep more. The exact edge depends on the rules of the table you choose, so check the game’s help screen. Our guide to the lowest house edge games compares them side by side, with worked costs for each.
Are online casino games fair in the UK?
Games offered to British players must meet the Gambling Commission’s technical standards, and random number generators are tested by approved test houses before games go live. That makes results random and the published RTP accurate over the long run, but it doesn’t remove the house edge: fair still means you are likely to lose over time. Our guide to RNG testing explains who carries out the checks and what they look at.
How do you choose which casinos to review?
We review the five UK-licensed casinos we work with: Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet. Each review covers the licence and owner, welcome terms, games and providers as published, payments and withdrawal times, the app, support and safer-gambling tools. Scores are an editorial summary built from those published facts, not the result of testing. Our page on how we review casinos sets out the process, and the casino reviews hub lists every review.
Can a betting system beat the house edge?
No. Every bet in a casino game carries its own edge, and adding bets together in a pattern only adds those edges together. Systems like Martingale change how your results are spread, often swapping many small wins for an occasional large loss, but the average cost per pound staked stays the same. Table limits and your budget stop the doubling long before it can recover a bad run. Our page asking whether any roulette strategy works shows the maths.
Where can I get help if gambling becomes a problem?
Call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, run by GamCare. It is free, confidential and open 24 hours a day. You can also block yourself from every UK-licensed online casino through GAMSTOP, ask your bank to block gambling payments, or get treatment through NHS gambling clinics. Our support services guide lists every option, with contact details and what each one offers.
