Casino questions answered
Casino questions answered straight: the odds behind each game, whether online games are fair, how UK rules on stakes, bonuses and withdrawals work, and where to get help. Every answer starts with a direct reply, then shows the numbers behind it.
How we answer casino questions
Each page in this casino questions section answers one thing people actually search for, and puts the answer in the first sentence. The rest of the page shows why, with the probability or house edge behind it, a worked example in pounds and the UK rule that applies. Where a question touches a myth, such as whether a slot can be due a win, the answer says plainly what the maths shows.
Answers are explanations built from developers’ published rules, standard game maths and Gambling Commission sources. We don’t report personal sessions or results, and nothing here suggests gambling is a way to make money.
Common casino questions: myths against facts
| Belief | What the maths and rules say |
|---|---|
| After five reds, black is due | Each spin is independent: red is 18/37 (48.6%) on a single-zero wheel every time |
| Slots pay more at night or at weekends | UK online games can’t adjust to time or past results; the RTP is fixed while the game is live |
| A betting system can beat roulette | Every bet carries the 2.70% edge, so the average cost stays the same whatever the staking pattern |
| Bigger stakes improve a slot’s RTP | RTP is set by the game’s version, not the stake; check the help screen for the figure |
| UK casino winnings are taxed | Players don’t pay tax on gambling winnings in the UK; operators pay duty on their profits |
| You can use a credit card if you pay it off | Credit card gambling has been banned in Great Britain since 14 April 2020 |
Fuller answers cover each belief, including whether slots pay more at certain times and whether a roulette strategy works.

Questions about fair play and licences
Two questions come up more than any other: is the game fair, and is the casino legitimate? For the first, Gambling Commission rules require online outcomes to be acceptably random and tested by an approved test house before release. For the second, any casino serving Great Britain must hold a Commission licence you can look up. The Commission’s page of checks you can do to stay safe (opens in a new tab) and our guide to checking a licence cover both.

Frequently asked questions
Can you make money from casino games?
Not reliably. Every standard casino game has a house edge, so over time players as a group lose a set share of what they stake, and any individual winning run is luck rather than a repeatable result. Treat gambling as entertainment that costs money. Our answer to whether you can make money from casino games shows the sums for roulette, blackjack and slots.
Are online casino games rigged?
Licensed UK games aren’t. Gambling Commission standards require random, unpredictable outcomes, ban games that adjust results to past play and need independent testing before release. The house edge is built into the published payouts, not hidden in the results. Our answers on whether online casino games are fair and who checks them explain the process.
How old do you have to be to gamble online in the UK?
You must be 18 or over, and the casino must verify your age and identity before you can deposit or play, including free demo versions of games. Players aged 18 to 24 also face a lower stake limit of £2 per spin on online slots, against £5 for those aged 25 and over. Our answer on the minimum gambling age covers the details.
Are casino winnings taxed in the UK?
No, players don’t pay tax on gambling winnings in the UK. Instead, operators pay duty on their profits: remote gaming duty rose from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026. Bingo duty was abolished from the same date. None of this changes what you receive from a win. Our answer on whether winnings are taxed explains the position.
Where can I get help if gambling is becoming a problem?
