Ted slot in short

Ted is a licensed film slot from Blueprint Gaming, the studio based in Newark, England, that also made Fishin’ Frenzy and King Kong Cash. It uses a standard five-reel, three-row grid with 20 paylines and builds its bonus play around a wheel rather than a simple scatter-triggered free spins round. You will find it alongside the other TV and film slots in our slot reviews.

Two common figures are missing from that table on purpose. Volatility and maximum win vary between listings, and neither is in our verified data. The game’s own help screen gives the maximum for the version your casino runs.

How the features work in the Ted slot

The bonus side of Ted runs through the Thunder Buddies wheel. When the bonus is triggered, the wheel spins and lands on one of five bonus features, and that feature then plays out. So instead of one bonus round that you see every time, Ted has five different ones, and the wheel decides which you get on each occasion.

Our verified data confirms the wheel and the five features but doesn’t list their names, how the wheel is triggered or what each feature pays. Those details are in the game’s help screen, and the casino.org Ted overview (opens in a new tab) describes the line-up. Read the rules before playing so you know what each segment means when the wheel stops.

What the wheel does to the maths

A bonus wheel feels like a moment of chance on top of the spin, but it is priced exactly like everything else. Each of the five features has an average value, and each has a set chance of being picked. The wheel’s overall value is the weighted average of those, and it is already inside the 95.8% RTP. Landing on the ‘best’ feature is good luck; landing on a weaker one is bad luck; neither changes the long-run return of the game.

Wheel segments aren’t always equally likely. A segment that looks the same size on screen may have a different probability behind it. Only the game rules can tell you, and many don’t publish segment odds.

A worked example of bonus wheel value

To show how a five-way wheel averages out, here is a made-up example. These are not Ted’s real values; they illustrate the method only.

Illustrative five-feature wheel (not Ted’s real figures)
FeatureChance of being pickedAverage pay (× stake)Contribution (chance × pay)
Feature A30%15×4.5×
Feature B30%20×6×
Feature C20%30×6×
Feature D15%50×7.5×
Feature E5%100×5×
Whole wheel100%29×

In this example, each trip to the wheel is worth 29 times the stake on average, even though no single feature pays exactly 29×. The rare top feature contributes as much as a common middle one. That is the general shape of most bonus wheels: a spread of outcomes whose average is fixed by design. Our guide to expected value explains the same sum for other bets.

Ted slot RTP of 95.8% in pounds

An RTP of 95.8% means a house edge of 4.2%. Expected cost is total staked multiplied by 4.2%. Here is how that scales:

Expected cost on Ted at 95.8%
Stake per spinAverage cost per spinPer 100 spinsMinimum spins from £20
10p0.42p42p200
20p0.84p84p100
50p2.1p£2.1040
£14.2p£4.2020

The minimum-spins column assumes nothing wins; wins put money back and stretch a session. The cost per 100 spins is the figure to compare between stakes. A move from 10p to £1 makes every 100 spins ten times as expensive on average. The cost per hour page turns this into hourly amounts.

Ted against Ted Megaways

Blueprint later made Ted Megaways, a different game that reuses the licence. The two are easy to confuse in a casino lobby, so here are the verified differences.

The RTP gap is small: on £100 staked, Ted costs about £4.20 on average and Ted Megaways about £3.97, a difference of 23p. The bigger difference is the style of play. Ted Megaways uses a Megaways grid with cascades and a much larger stated maximum, which points to a bumpier ride.

How to play Ted online in the UK

  1. Sign in to a UK-licensed casino. Age and identity checks must be done first, even for the demo.
  2. Open Ted and read the help screen: the RTP, the wheel trigger and the five bonus features.
  3. Pick a stake. All 20 lines are covered on each spin.
  4. Spin. When the bonus triggers, the Thunder Buddies wheel picks one of the five features.
  5. After each feature, check the net position and session time shown on screen.

Ted slot myths

  • “The wheel is due a big feature.” Each wheel spin is independent. A run of smaller features doesn’t make a bigger one more likely next time. See the gambler’s fallacy.
  • “Film slots pay less because of the licence.” Ted’s RTP is 95.8%, close to Blueprint’s other games, and the figure in the help screen is what decides the cost.
  • “Stopping the wheel early changes the result.” UK rules ban slam-stop on slots, and the outcome is settled by the random number generator regardless of animation.

UK rules for the Ted slot

The Gambling Commission’s RTS 14 product design rules (opens in a new tab) require at least 2.5 seconds per spin, ban autoplay, turbo and slam-stop, and stop games celebrating a return no bigger than the stake. Our game design rules page summarises them.

Stake caps apply too: £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over, £2 for players aged 18 to 24, as explained on our slot stake limits page. There is no way to buy the bonus wheel; since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of the Ted slot?

The Ted slot has an RTP of 95.8%, which means a house edge of 4.2%. Over a very long run, every £100 staked returns about £95.80 on average, so the expected cost is £4.20. Any single session can be far above or below that. Check the help screen at your casino, as it shows the figure for the version it runs. Our RTP explainer has more.

What is the Thunder Buddies wheel in Ted?

The Thunder Buddies wheel is Ted’s bonus feature: when it triggers, the wheel spins and lands on one of five bonus features, which then plays out. The names, triggers and pays of the five features are listed in the game’s help screen. The wheel’s average value is already included in the 95.8% RTP, so it doesn’t change the long-run cost. Our bonus rounds guide explains how such features work.

Who makes the Ted slot?

Ted is made by Blueprint Gaming, a studio founded in 2001 and based in Newark, England. Blueprint is owned by Merkur Group, formerly the Gauselmann Group, which took an equity stake in 2008 and full ownership in 2012. The studio also makes Fishin’ Frenzy, Eye of Horus and King Kong Cash, and runs the Jackpot King progressive network. See our Blueprint Gaming page.

Is Ted the same as Ted Megaways?

No, they are separate games from the same studio. Ted uses a 5×3 grid with 20 paylines and a 95.8% RTP, with a bonus wheel leading to one of five features. Ted Megaways has six reels, up to 117,649 ways, a 96.03% RTP, medium-high volatility and a listed maximum of 50,000 times the stake. Our Ted Megaways review covers that game in detail.

How many paylines does Ted have?

Ted has 20 paylines on a five-reel, three-row grid. Your stake is split across all 20 lines on each spin, so at 20p a spin each line carries 1p. Wins on different lines add together. More lines don’t change the RTP; they spread the same long-run return across more possible combinations. Read our paylines guide for how line wins are counted.

Are all five Ted bonus features equally likely?

Not necessarily, and the game may not publish the chances. Bonus wheels often give each segment its own probability, which can differ from how big the segment looks on screen. What is fixed is the wheel’s overall average value, which sits inside the 95.8% RTP. A run of small features doesn’t make a bigger one due. Our page on independent events explains why each spin starts fresh.

How long will £20 last on Ted?

At least 200 spins at 10p, 40 at 50p or 20 at £1, if nothing wins; wins usually stretch it further. On average, at 95.8% RTP, 100 spins cost about 42p at 10p a spin and £4.20 at £1 a spin. Results in one session can be very different from those averages, so set your limit in advance. Our guide to how long £20 lasts on a slot has more examples.

Can I buy the Ted bonus in the UK?

No, UK-licensed casinos don’t sell bonus entry on Ted or any other slot. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players; the Commission said they risked breaching its standards on clear game rules and on encouraging loss chasing. The wheel can only be reached through normal play. Our page on feature buy rules explains the background.
