Nitropolis slot: key facts

ELK Studios was founded in Stockholm in 2013 and holds a Gambling Commission licence (account 40844). The whole design revolves around one idea: making individual reel positions hold more than one symbol.

From 4,096 ways to 85 million: the arithmetic

On a ways-to-win game, the number of ways is the count of symbols on each reel multiplied together. Six reels of four give 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 4,096 ways, the Nitropolis starting point. When a Nitro Reel packs several symbols into one position, that reel counts more symbols, and the product jumps.

The middle rows are made-up examples to show the multiplication; the game's help screen sets out how many symbols a Nitro position can hold. The point is that ways grow multiplicatively, so a few packed positions on several reels can create enormous numbers. As with any ways to win game, though, more ways do not change the RTP. The return is built into the symbol weights and paytable.

How the Nitropolis features work

Nitro Reels

Nitro Reels can appear on any reel. Where one lands, several matching symbols are squeezed into a single position. Because ways are counted symbol by symbol, a packed position multiplies the routes running through that reel. Line up packed positions on adjacent reels and the number of ways to connect a winning symbol rises sharply.

Respins on every win

Any winning symbols trigger a respin, and respins keep going for as long as each one produces a new win. A single paid spin can therefore turn into a sequence. Free spins with locking Nitro Reels

Three to six scatter symbols start the free spins, giving between 10 spins for three scatters and 25 for six. At the start of the round, a random symbol is chosen to become a scatter-paying symbol, which means it pays wherever it lands rather than needing adjacent reels. Every Nitro Reel that lands during the round is locked in place, so the grid can build up more packed positions as the spins go on.

Nitropolis RTP: how far £20 goes on average

An RTP of 96.1% means a 3.9% house edge. One way to picture that is to ask how many spins it takes for the average cost to reach £20. The answer is far more spins than £20 would cover if nothing came back, because wins are recycled into further stakes.

That third column is a long-run average, not a promise. On a medium-high volatility game, a £20 balance can disappear in a fraction of those spins, and it can also grow for a while. Medium-high volatility on Nitropolis

The respin chains and the locking Nitro Reels in free spins concentrate a lot of value into fewer spins. That is the source of the medium-high volatility rating: extended periods with little coming back, broken by occasional sequences that pay much more.
