Casino loyalty schemes

Casino loyalty schemes reward you for playing, usually with points, levels, money back or reward coins that turn into spins, bonuses or small prizes. They give a slice of your stakes back, but that slice is designed to be smaller than the house edge, so a loyalty scheme lowers the cost of play without ever making it free.

Key takeaways

  • Loyalty rewards are a small share of what you stake; they cut the cost of play but don’t remove the house edge.
  • Schemes come as points, levels, money back, reward coins, missions or invitation-only clubs.
  • Value = reward rate × amount staked, set against stake × house edge.
  • UK incentive rules apply: 10x cap on bonus wagering, one product per incentive, clear terms.
  • If chasing a level or reward is making you play more, that’s the moment to step back.

What casino loyalty schemes are

A loyalty scheme is an ongoing reward programme for players who already have an account. Instead of a one-off welcome offer, it returns something as you keep playing: points per pound staked, levels that bring perks, a percentage paid back, or a reward currency you spend in a shop or on mini-games.

Land-based casinos have long done this with comps, free drinks and meals tied to a player’s expected spend. Online schemes work on the same idea, measured more precisely. Our explainer on casino comps covers the land-based roots.

For other ongoing offers, such as cashback and reload bonuses, see our casino bonuses hub. This page is about schemes that reward continued play.

The top tier often overlaps with a VIP programme. Those have their own, stricter UK rules, which our guide to casino VIP schemes covers in detail.

What a casino loyalty reward is worth: the maths

Casinos plan rewards around your theoretical loss: the amount you stake multiplied by the house edge. Our page on theoretical loss explains it fully. A reward scheme returns part of that expected loss to you. It never returns more on average, or the casino would be paying people to play.

The rates below are made up to show the method; casinos set their own and many don’t publish a single figure. Assume £1,000 of total stakes on slots with a 96% RTP, so a 4% edge and an expected loss of £40.

Illustration: £1,000 staked at a 4% edge
Made-up reward rateReward earnedExpected loss before rewardNet expected cost
0%£0£40£40
0.5% of stakes£5£40£35
1% of stakes£10£40£30
2% of stakes£20£40£20

Even at the generous end of that made-up range, you are still expected to lose money. The reward softens the cost; the house edge still decides the direction.

Why game choice moves the reward

Many schemes earn at different rates on different games, often less on low-edge table games. A reward of 1% of stakes looks the same on paper whichever game you play, but if one game earns at a quarter of the rate, its real return is a quarter as large. Check the earning table in the scheme’s terms.

Rewards paid as cash against rewards paid as bonus funds

How a reward is paid changes its value as much as its size. Cash with no strings is worth its face value. Bonus funds or spins with wagering are worth less, because the extra play carries the edge.

  1. Take the reward: say £10 in bonus funds.
  2. Note the wagering: at the UK maximum of 10x, that is £100 of play.
  3. Price the play: £100 × 4% edge = £4 expected cost.
  4. Subtract: the £10 reward is worth about £6 on average, against £10 if paid as cash.

A reward paid as no-wagering spins sits in between: worth the spin stake × RTP. Our page on what free spins are worth explains that calculation.

Loyalty schemes at our partner casinos

Each partner runs rewards differently. The table shows only what the casinos’ own help pages or app store listings describe; rates and current perks aren’t published in one place, so check the casino’s rewards area and terms.

UK rules for casino loyalty schemes

Loyalty rewards are incentives, so the Gambling Commission’s SR code 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab) on rewards and bonuses applies. Since 19 January 2026 it caps bonus wagering at 10 times the bonus and says an incentive must not include more than one type of gambling product.

There is no 2026 ban on rewards linked to how long or how often you play; the Commission deleted that older clause rather than tightening it. The rule that does apply is clause 3(c): faster qualifying can’t earn a bigger or different reward. More on the code is in UK casino bonus rules and on our page about the mixed product promotion ban.

When a loyalty scheme stops being good value

A reward programme is designed to keep you playing. That’s fine when it simply adds a little back to play you’d do anyway. It isn’t fine if the scheme is setting the pace.

  • You play on to reach the next level or keep a streak going.
  • You log in for a daily perk on days you otherwise wouldn’t gamble.
  • You treat rewards as a reason to deposit again after a loss.
  • You feel a level or status is something to protect.

If any of those sound familiar, take a break. A time-out pauses your account, and our page on chasing losses explains the pattern. Casinos also have duties to step in; see customer interaction rules. The National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, 24 hours a day.

How to judge a casino loyalty scheme

  1. Find how rewards are earned: per pound staked, per game, or by tasks.
  2. Find how they are paid: cash, bonus funds, spins or coins.
  3. Check any wagering on rewards and price it at stake × edge.
  4. Check expiry: points or coins that lapse are worth nothing.
  5. Compare the reward with your expected loss on the games you actually play.
  6. Decide whether the scheme fits play you would do anyway, and ignore it if not.

Loyalty scheme myths

Advantages

  • Fact: money back on stakes lowers your net cost per pound played.
  • Fact: a cash reward is worth more than the same amount in bonus funds with wagering.
  • Fact: a higher level doesn’t change the odds of any game.

Drawbacks

  • Myth: loyal players get looser slots or better luck.
  • Myth: a big enough scheme makes casino play profitable.
  • Myth: you lose out by taking a break. Rewards aren’t worth play you didn’t plan.

Every game result is independent of your status or history; see independent events.

Frequently asked questions

How do casino loyalty schemes work?

They reward continued play with points, levels, money back or a reward currency. You earn as you stake, then swap or receive rewards such as bonus funds, spins or small prizes. The reward is a share of your stakes and is set below the house edge, so you are still expected to lose over time. Our theoretical loss page explains how casinos size rewards.

Are casino loyalty schemes worth it?

They are worth something only if you would play the same amount anyway. A reward returning a small share of stakes lowers your net cost, but it can’t turn losses into profit. If a scheme makes you play longer or more often, the extra play costs more than the reward returns. Our guide on whether casino bonuses are worth it uses the same reasoning.

What is the difference between a loyalty scheme and a VIP scheme?

A loyalty scheme is usually open to all players and rewards play automatically, while a VIP scheme is invitation-only for high-spending customers, often with a personal manager. VIP schemes carry extra UK rules from 31 October 2020: casinos must check spending is affordable, look for signs of harm and hold up-to-date identity and source-of-funds evidence. Read more on casino VIP schemes.

Do loyalty points count towards the 10x wagering cap?

The cap applies to what you get, not to the points themselves. If points are swapped for bonus funds with wagering, those funds can’t need more than 10 times their value in play in Great Britain since 19 January 2026. Rewards paid as cash have no wagering at all. The 10x wagering cap page explains the rule in full.

What is OJOplus at PlayOJO?

OJOplus is PlayOJO’s money-back feature, which pays back a share of each stake on every game played, win or lose. PlayOJO also runs OJO Levels, which only go up, daily Kickers and an invitation-only OJO Club. The exact rates are set by PlayOJO, so check the rewards area for current figures. Our PlayOJO loyalty page has more detail.

Can a loyalty scheme mix casino and sports rewards?

Not in one incentive since 19 January 2026. The Gambling Commission’s rules say an incentive must not include more than one type of gambling product, such as casino, betting, bingo or lottery. So a single reward that requires sports bets to earn casino spins isn’t allowed. Separate schemes for each product are still possible. Our guide to the mixed product promotion ban explains it.

Do loyal players get better odds?

No. Your level or status has no effect on any game’s RTP or results. Slots and RNG table games are tested to produce random outcomes, and each spin or hand is independent of the last. Loyalty rewards come from the casino’s marketing budget, not from changing the games. See random number generators for how results are produced.

How do I stop getting loyalty and reward emails?

Switch off casino marketing in your account settings, or unsubscribe from the message. Since 1 May 2025, online casinos must ask you to opt in to marketing by product and by channel, with marketing off by default. If rewards are drawing you into more play than you want, consider a break or self-exclusion. Our self-exclusion guide explains the options.
