Casumo safer gambling tools: what every account must have

Casumo is operated by Recro Limited under Gambling Commission account 61549. That licence means Casumo has to offer a set of safer gambling tools and follow rules about when and how it uses them. Casumo's own menu names and layout aren't published in the sources we checked, so this guide describes the tools the rules require and tells you where to look in your account.

The tools are there to help you keep gambling at a level you're comfortable with. Using them isn't a sign that something is wrong. Many people set a limit on day one in the same way they'd set a budget for a night out. For more on all of these tools across UK sites, see our safer gambling hub.

Deposit limits at Casumo

Since 31 October 2025, UK casinos must prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and setting one is the default: if you choose not to, you must confirm that choice. You type in your own amount, with no suggested figures filled in for you, and any decrease must take effect immediately. The Commission's announcement on new deposit limit rules (opens in a new tab) sets out the detail.

There's also a rule about wording. Operators had to offer gross deposit limits by 30 September 2026, and only a limit on gross deposits can be called a "deposit limit". A gross limit counts every pound you put in, even if you've withdrawn some winnings, so it gives a clearer cap on what leaves your bank account. If you have a limit, you'll be reminded about it at least every six months; if you don't, at least every 12 months.

Choose a figure you could lose without it affecting bills, savings or plans. Our guide to setting deposit limits has examples, and what happens when a deposit limit is reached explains what you'll see when you hit it.

Taking a break: Casumo time-outs

A time-out is a short, fixed break during which you can't log in to gamble. UK licence conditions require remote operators to provide a time-out facility (opens in a new tab), so you should find it in Casumo's account or responsible gaming settings. It suits moments when you want to step back for a day or a few weeks without closing the account.

Check the break lengths on offer before you start one. If you find you want longer than a time-out allows, self-exclusion is the stronger option. The usual lengths are compared on our casino time-outs page.

Self-exclusion at Casumo and through GAMSTOP

Self-exclusion is for when you want to stop gambling for a longer period. You can do it with Casumo directly, which covers that operator, or through GAMSTOP, which covers every gambling website and app licensed in Great Britain in one step. When you self-exclude, the rules say the operator must refuse you service, close your account and return any funds, remove you from marketing within two days, and point you to support.

You can register at GAMSTOP's website (opens in a new tab) in a few minutes. It covers online gambling only; land-based venues have separate schemes. Our GAMSTOP guide walks through registration, and what happens to my balance if I self-exclude answers the common money question. For the general process, see how to self-exclude.

In-game safeguards you'll notice at Casumo

Some protections are built into the games rather than your account settings. Since 17 January 2025, UK online casino games must show your net spend and time spent in real time, autoplay is banned for all online casino games including live casino, and you can't play several games at once. Casino games other than slots must allow at least five seconds per game cycle.

Slots have had their own rules since 31 October 2021: at least 2.5 seconds per spin, no turbo or slam-stop, and no celebrating a return that is lower than your stake. On top of that, online slot stakes are capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24. Our pages on game design rules and slot stake limits cover these in more detail.

Some casinos also offer pop-up reality checks that remind you how long you've been playing. Look in Casumo's settings for any reminder options, and use them alongside the on-screen spend and time display.

What Casumo must do on its side

Safer gambling isn't only down to you. UK licence conditions require Casumo to have systems that spot signs of harm from the moment an account opens, such as rising spend, long sessions, changes in behaviour or customer contact, and to act in a timely and proportionate way. Where there are strong signs of harm, marketing and new bonus offers must stop. Automated decisions must be manually reviewed, and you can contest them. This duty is explained in our page on customer interaction rules.

Casumo must also run a financial vulnerability check once your deposits minus withdrawals pass £150 in a rolling 30 days. It looks at public records such as bankruptcy or county court judgments. Credit-reference "affordability checks" are not live. If you'd prefer not to receive marketing, UK rules since 1 May 2025 let you choose by product and by channel. See our explainer on financial risk checks.

How to set up Casumo safer gambling tools

  1. Decide on a monthly amount you can afford to lose, and a time limit for each session.
  2. When Casumo prompts you before your first deposit, enter your deposit limit rather than skipping it.
  3. Open your account settings and find the responsible or safer gambling section to review limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.
  4. Turn off marketing for any product or channel you don't want in your preferences.
  5. If you want a break, start a time-out; if you want to stop for longer, self-exclude with Casumo or register with GAMSTOP.
  6. If you can't find a tool, email Casumo support at hey@casumo.com between 7:00 and 23:00 UK time.

Tools outside Casumo: bank blocks and blocking software

Account tools work best when backed up by blocks outside the casino. Many UK banks let you switch on a gambling block in their app, which stops card payments to gambling businesses. The Commission's list of banks offering these includes Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds, Monzo, NatWest, RBS, Santander and Starling. With some, such as Monzo, turning the block off means waiting out a cooldown. The Commission's page on blocking gambling payments with your bank (opens in a new tab) has the details.

Blocking software such as Gamban stops gambling sites and apps loading on your devices, and Halifax and Lloyds offer it to their customers. Our guides to bank gambling blocks and blocking software compare the options.

Signs it's time to use the tools

Every casino game has a built-in house edge, so over time losing is the expected result. Gambling should be a paid-for form of entertainment, not a way to make money. Consider a limit, a break or support if you notice any of these:

  • spending more than you planned, or more than you can afford;
  • trying to win back losses by playing again;
  • gambling to escape stress, low mood or other problems;
  • hiding gambling from people close to you, or borrowing to gamble;
  • feeling anxious or irritable when you aren't gambling.

Our pages on signs of problem gambling and chasing losses go into each of these with practical next steps.

Frequently asked questions

What safer gambling tools does Casumo offer?

As a UK-licensed casino, Casumo must offer deposit limits, a time-out facility and self-exclusion, and it must take part in GAMSTOP. Its games must also show net spend and time spent while you play. The exact menu names aren't published in the sources we checked, so look in your account's safer or responsible gambling settings. Our safer gambling checklist helps you decide which tools to switch on first.

How do I set a deposit limit at Casumo?

Casumo must prompt you to set one before your first deposit, so the easiest time is at that prompt. You can also change it later in your account settings; decreases take effect immediately. You type your own figure, with no suggested amounts. Pick a sum you could lose without affecting essentials. Our guide to setting deposit limits has worked examples of daily, weekly and monthly limits you can adapt.

Can I take a short break from Casumo?

Yes, UK licence conditions require Casumo to provide a time-out facility, which locks your account for a short, fixed period. It's useful when you want to step away without closing the account. Check the available lengths in your settings, and if you need a longer break, self-exclusion is the better tool. Our page on casino time-outs explains how they differ from self-exclusion and when each one fits.

How do I self-exclude from Casumo?

You can self-exclude through Casumo's account settings or by contacting support, which covers Casumo, or register with GAMSTOP to block every UK-licensed gambling site and app at once. When you self-exclude, Casumo must close your account, return your funds, remove you from marketing within two days and point you to support. Our guide on how to self-exclude covers both routes and what to expect afterwards.

Does GAMSTOP cover Casumo?

Yes, every online gambling business licensed in Great Britain has had to take part in GAMSTOP since 31 March 2020, and Casumo holds a UK licence through Recro Limited. A GAMSTOP exclusion lasts from 6 months to 5 years, can't be cancelled early, and stays in place after the period until you ask for it to be removed. Our GAMSTOP guide walks you through registration step by step.

Will Casumo check my spending?

Yes, Casumo must watch for signs of harm, such as rising spend or long sessions, and act on them, and it must run a financial vulnerability check if your net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days. That check uses public records like bankruptcy. Credit-reference affordability checks aren't live. Our page on customer interaction rules explains what operators must do when they spot signs of harm and how you can contest a decision.

Can I block gambling payments from my bank?

Yes, many UK banks offer a gambling block in their app that stops card payments to gambling businesses, including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, Monzo, NatWest, Santander and Starling. Some make you wait through a cooldown before the block can be turned off. It works alongside Casumo's own tools. Our guide to bank gambling blocks lists how to switch it on with each bank.

Where can I get help with gambling?

Call the National Gambling Helpline, run by GamCare, free on 0808 8020 133 at any time of day, or use its live chat. In Wales, the NHS Wales Helpline is 0808 2819 265. NHS gambling clinics in England accept self-referrals, and Gamblers Anonymous offers peer support. The gambling support in the UK page lists every service with contact details and what each one offers.
