Red Door Roulette (Evolution)
Red Door Roulette is Evolution's single-zero roulette game show in which a slot machine marks 3 to 15 numbers with Keys, and a winning straight-up bet on a Key number opens the red door to the 64-segment Crazy Time bonus wheel. Straight-up wins pay 19:1 instead of 35:1. Here are the rules, the odds and the trade-off behind that lower payout.
Key takeaways
- Evolution launched Red Door Roulette on 8 November 2023.
- It uses a single-zero wheel; a slot generates 3 to 15 Key numbers, sometimes with 2x to 20x multipliers.
- Evolution's game page says a winning straight-up bet pays 19:1, compared with 35:1 in standard roulette.
- A straight-up win on a Key number sends you to the 64-segment Crazy Time bonus wheel.
- With one chip on one number, the chance of reaching the bonus is between about 0.22% and 1.10% per spin.

What Red Door Roulette (Evolution) is
The game mixes two of Evolution's best-known games. The base is a single-zero roulette table, like European roulette. On top sits the idea behind Lightning Roulette: before the ball settles, some numbers are picked out at random for special treatment. Here those numbers carry Keys, and a Key opens the red door into the bonus game borrowed from Crazy Time.
Evolution's launch announcement (opens in a new tab) dates the game to 8 November 2023. The Red Door Roulette game page (opens in a new tab) calls it a roulette game show with a Crazy Time bonus twist, and that is a fair description: the table is roulette, but the pay structure behaves like a live game show.
How a Red Door Roulette round works
- Place chips on the betting grid before betting time runs out.
- An automatic wheel launches the ball.
- The dealer pulls a lever to start a slot machine, which stops on a Bonus Number between 3 and 15.
- That many Keys are dropped on random numbers, no more than one per number.
- Sometimes the animation also reveals a multiplier between 2x and 20x.
- The ball settles in a pocket: a winning straight-up bet pays 19:1, multiplied if the number carries a multiplier.
- If your straight-up number wins and carries a Key, you go to the bonus round, and any multiplier on the Bonus Number is applied to the bonus wheel's multiplier segments.
Evolution's page explains straight-up bets and the bonus. For how outside bets such as red or black pay in this game, and whether a Key win also pays the 19:1, read the in-game help screen.
The 19:1 straight-up payout and why it matters
On a standard single-zero wheel a straight-up bet pays 35 to 1 and wins 1 time in 37, which gives the familiar 2.70% house edge. Red Door Roulette's straight-up pays 19:1 instead. Without any Keys, multipliers or bonuses, a £1 straight-up would return £20 one time in 37, so it would give back only 20 ÷ 37 = 54.05% of what you stake.
That missing 46% is not lost to the casino; most of it is moved into the extras. The multipliers on numbers and the Crazy Time bonus wheel have to fund nearly half of the straight-up's return. The result is a bet that pays less often than standard roulette and relies on rare, larger results. Evolution doesn't publish the RTP on its game page, so the overall edge is something to read in the help screen.
| Game | Payout on an unboosted win | Chance per spin | Base return before boosts |
|---|---|---|---|
| European roulette | 35 to 1 | 1 in 37 (2.70%) | 97.30% (no boosts) |
| Lightning Roulette | 29 to 1 | 1 in 37 (2.70%) | 81.08% |
| Red Door Roulette | 19 to 1 | 1 in 37 (2.70%) | 54.05% |
Each base return is (payout + 1) ÷ 37. The lower it is, the more of the game's return depends on rare extras, and the wider the swings in a session. Our true odds vs payouts page explains the idea.
Red Door Roulette odds: Keys and bonus entry
The Keys are placed at random, between 3 and 15 of them, on the 37 numbers. That makes it simple to work out the chances, assuming every number is equally likely to receive a Key.
| Keys this round | Chance your number has a Key | Chance your number wins and has a Key | About 1 in |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 8.11% | 0.22% | 456 |
| 5 | 13.51% | 0.37% | 274 |
| 10 | 27.03% | 0.73% | 137 |
| 15 | 40.54% | 1.10% | 91 |
The sum is (Keys ÷ 37) × (1 ÷ 37). With three Keys, a single straight-up chip reaches the bonus about once in 456 spins; with fifteen, about once in 91. Spreading chips across more numbers raises your chance of the bonus but also raises your stake by the same proportion, so the expected cost per pound staked stays the same.
If you covered every number
Putting a chip on all 37 numbers shows the structure clearly. You would always win one straight-up at 19:1, getting back 20 chips from 37, a loss of 17 chips before any boost. You would reach the bonus whenever the winning number carried a Key: 3 in 37 rounds at the low end, 15 in 37 at the high end. It is an expensive way to chase the bonus, and it doesn't change the edge.
The Crazy Time bonus wheel behind the red door
The bonus is the Crazy Time wheel: a 64-segment wheel of multipliers with doubling segments. A flapper points to the winning segment and its multiplier is applied to your winnings. If it lands on DOUBLE, every multiplier on the wheel doubles and the wheel spins again. If the Key number you hit carried a multiplier, that multiplier is applied to the wheel's multiplier segments before the spin.
Evolution doesn't list the values of the 64 segments on the Red Door Roulette page, and we haven't verified a maximum win, so check the help screen. With 64 segments, any single segment has a 1 in 64 (1.56%) chance on each spin of the wheel. For the original version of this bonus, see our Crazy Time guide.
What Red Door Roulette costs in pounds
The cost per round is stake × house edge, but the edge has to come from the help screen. To show how much the choice of game matters, here is the same £2 straight-up across three edges: the 2.70% of a European wheel, and two illustrative higher edges for a boosted game.
| Edge | Average cost a spin | Average cost over 50 spins |
|---|---|---|
| 2.70% (European roulette) | 5.4p | £2.70 |
| 4% (illustrative) | 8p | £4.00 |
| 6% (illustrative) | 12p | £6.00 |
Averages hide the swings. Because a straight-up only pays 20 chips back when it wins, a run of losing spins drains a budget faster than standard roulette's 36 chips back would. If you want steady, low-cost roulette, the plain single-zero table or French roulette with La Partage is cheaper to play.
Who Red Door Roulette suits
Advantages
- Single-zero wheel rather than double zero.
- Roulette betting you already know, with a game show bonus on top.
- The bonus rule is simple: hit a Key with a straight-up.
- Multipliers from 2x to 20x can boost both base wins and the bonus wheel.
Drawbacks
- Straight-up pays 19:1, so plain wins are much smaller than at standard roulette.
- No RTP or maximum win on Evolution's public page.
- Bonus entry is rare with a single chip.
- High volatility compared with standard roulette.
It suits a player who enjoys the Crazy Time bonus and wants roulette as the route in, with a small stake and a firm budget. It doesn't suit anyone looking for the lowest cost per spin; for that, see our list of games with the best odds.
Red Door Roulette myths and betting systems
- Keys favour numbers that haven't hit lately. Keys are dropped at random each round; past results don't steer them. See hot and cold numbers.
- Covering more numbers improves your odds of profit. It raises your chance of reaching the bonus, but your stake rises in step, so the edge per pound is unchanged.
- A progression will catch the bonus eventually. Doubling after losses doesn't change the edge and can run into table limits fast; see our roulette betting systems page.
- The dealer controls where the ball lands. An automatic wheel launches the ball, and the Keys come from the slot animation, not the dealer's choice.
Red Door Roulette in the UK
Red Door Roulette is a live casino game, so UK slot stake limits of £5 and £2 don't apply; table limits do. The Gambling Commission's rules for all online casino games apply instead. The Commission's autoplay decision (opens in a new tab) brought live casino into the autoplay ban from 17 January 2025, while noting that a re-bet button isn't autoplay. Non-slot games must allow at least 5 seconds per game cycle, you can't play several games at once, and net spend and time played must be visible as you go.
You must be 18 or over and verified, and credit cards can't be used to gamble. If you need support, the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133) is free and open all day, every day. Our UK rules for live casino and safer gambling pages explain the details.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a straight-up bet pay in Red Door Roulette?
A winning straight-up bet in Red Door Roulette pays 19:1, according to Evolution's game page, and more if the number carries a multiplier. Standard single-zero roulette pays 35 to 1. The lower base payout funds the Keys, multipliers and the Crazy Time bonus wheel. Without those extras, a straight-up would return only about 54% of stakes, so the bonus does a lot of work. Compare our straight up bet and roulette payouts pages.
How do you get the bonus in Red Door Roulette?
You reach the bonus by winning a straight-up bet on a number that carries a Key. Each round a slot machine picks between 3 and 15 Keys and drops them on random numbers. With one chip on one number, the chance of reaching the bonus ranges from about 0.22% with three Keys to about 1.10% with fifteen. The bonus is the 64-segment Crazy Time wheel. Read our Crazy Time guide and probability basics.
What is the RTP of Red Door Roulette?
Evolution doesn't publish Red Door Roulette's RTP on its public game page, and we haven't verified a figure, so check the help screen in the game. Expect it to differ from standard European roulette's 97.30%, because so much of the return is paid through rare bonuses and multipliers. Use the figure to work out cost per spin: stake times house edge. Our roulette house edge and RTP pages explain the sums.
Is Red Door Roulette single zero?
Yes, the game uses a single-zero wheel with the numbers 1 to 36 plus one zero, giving 37 pockets. That means any single number wins 1 time in 37, about 2.70% of spins. A double-zero wheel would have 38 pockets and worse odds for the same payout. The payouts differ from a standard table, though, so read the help screen. Our European roulette and single zero pages explain the wheel.
How is Red Door Roulette different from Lightning Roulette?
Both pick out random numbers before the ball lands, but they reward them differently. Lightning Roulette boosts one to five Lucky Numbers by 50x to 500x and pays unboosted straight-ups at 29 to 1. Red Door Roulette marks 3 to 15 Key numbers, adds occasional 2x to 20x multipliers, pays straight-ups at 19:1 and sends Key winners to the Crazy Time bonus wheel. See Lightning Roulette and Lightning live casino games.
Can a betting system beat Red Door Roulette?
No, no betting system beats Red Door Roulette, because every spin is independent and every bet carries the house edge. Martingale, Fibonacci and similar progressions only change the pattern of wins and losses; they can't change the average. With a 19:1 straight-up, long losing runs are common, so doubling stakes can hit the table limit or empty a budget quickly. Read our Martingale and gambler's ruin pages.
When did Red Door Roulette launch?
Evolution launched Red Door Roulette on 8 November 2023. It brought the bonus game from Crazy Time, which launched in 2020, to a roulette table with Keys. It is one of several Evolution roulette games with random extras, alongside Lightning Roulette from 2018 and XXXtreme Lightning Roulette. Our live roulette page and the Evolution provider guide cover the range.
Can I use a bonus on Red Door Roulette?
Usually only partly, if at all: many UK casino bonuses exclude roulette and live games or count them at a lower rate towards wagering, so check the terms. Our partner offers are slot-focused, and 10bet's bonus must be wagered on slots. Since 19 January 2026 wagering can't exceed 10x the bonus. See our live casino bonuses and wagering requirements pages.
