Crazy Coin Flip (Evolution) explained

Crazy Coin Flip (Evolution) is a hybrid game: you spin a slot until three scatters qualify you, build multipliers on a timed Top-Up slot, and then a live host flips a giant coin to decide which side's multiplier you are paid. Here is how each phase works, what the XXXtreme spins really cost and which UK rules apply.

Key takeaways

  • There are three phases: a qualifying slot, a timed Top-Up slot and a live Coin Flip bonus.
  • You need three scatters to qualify for the live round.
  • XXXtreme spins cost 5x the base bet and always land one scatter; Super XXXtreme spins cost 50x and always land two.
  • If each coin side is equally likely, your average bonus result is the midpoint of the red and blue multipliers.
  • RTP and max win were not published in the sources we checked, so read them in the game first.

Crazy Coin Flip (Evolution) at a glance

Evolution's game takes the Coin Flip bonus from Crazy Time and turns it into a game of its own, with a slot in front of it. Evolution's Crazy Coin Flip page (opens in a new tab) describes three stages. First you play a slot on your own until you land three scatter symbols. Then a short Top-Up slot runs against the clock, adding to two coloured multipliers. Finally you join a live studio where a host adds more multipliers and flips a coin.

That structure makes it different from most entries in our game shows section. The slot phases are individual and run at your pace; only the bonus is live. The US launch came in New Jersey on 4 December 2023, according to Evolution's announcement of the New Jersey debut (opens in a new tab); we did not find a confirmed date for its first launch elsewhere.

Phase one: the qualifying slot and its scatters

Your base bet is set here, and everything later is calculated from it. You spin until three scatters have landed, which qualifies you for the next stages. Some scatters carry multipliers, and those are added together and carried forward once you qualify. Our guide to scatter symbols explains how scatters work in ordinary slots.

There are three ways to spin. A normal spin costs your base bet and may land no scatters at all. The two XXXtreme options cost more per spin in exchange for scatters landing every time.

What XXXtreme spins cost in pounds

The multipliers on spin cost add up fast. Here is the price of one spin at four common base bets, plus the worst-case cost of qualifying using only that spin type, assuming no extra scatters land.

Crazy Coin Flip spin prices by base bet
Base betNormal spinXXXtreme spinSuper XXXtreme spinMax qualify cost: XXXtreme (3 spins)Max qualify cost: Super (2 spins)
10p£0.10£0.50£5.00£1.50£10.00
20p£0.20£1.00£10.00£3.00£20.00
50p£0.50£2.50£25.00£7.50£50.00
£1£1.00£5.00£50.00£15.00£100.00

Paying more to reach the bonus faster does not, by itself, make the game cheaper. What matters is the RTP of each spin type, which only the game's help screen can tell you. If an enhanced spin carried a lower RTP than a normal one, using it would raise your average cost per pound staked. Check before choosing.

Features can vary by jurisdiction, so the spin options in a UK version may differ from those described on Evolution's demo page. The help screen in the version you open is the authority.

Phase two: the Top-Up slot against the clock

Once you qualify, the game switches to a short slot with red and blue coin symbols, each showing a multiplier. Landing matching coins of one colour in the winning line adds that value to the running total for that colour. When the timer runs out, the totals for red and blue carry into the live round together with the scatter multipliers you collected earlier.

This phase is random in the same way any slot is. Tapping faster or slower makes no difference to which coins land, and UK rules forbid features that let you speed up a result. Our page on random number generators explains how slot outcomes are decided.

Phase three: the live Coin Flip and its maths

In the studio, the host adds further multipliers to both sides, then pulls a lever to flip the coin. You are paid the multiplier on whichever side lands face up, applied to your base bet. Because one side always wins, every player who reaches the live round gets a payout; the question is which of two values it will be.

Assuming each side is equally likely, as with a fair coin, the average result is simply the midpoint of the two multipliers. Suppose red shows 30x and blue shows 8x on a 20p base bet:

Worked Coin Flip example on a 20p base bet
OutcomeChanceMultiplierPayout
Red lands1 in 230x£6.00
Blue lands1 in 28x£1.60
Average19x£3.80

That average is what the bonus is worth before you count the cost of getting there. If qualifying cost you £3 in XXXtreme spins, a £3.80 average bonus leaves a thin margin, and a single flip can land either way. This is expected value in practice: the midpoint tells you the long-run average, never the next result.

How to play Crazy Coin Flip

  1. Open the game and read the paytable, the cost of each spin type and the RTP in the help screen.
  2. Choose a base bet that fits your budget, remembering enhanced spins multiply it.
  3. Spin the qualifying slot until three scatters have landed, using normal or enhanced spins.
  4. Play the timed Top-Up slot and watch the red and blue totals grow.
  5. Join the live studio, where the host adds multipliers to both sides.
  6. Watch the flip; you are paid the winning side's multiplier on your base bet.
  7. Check your on-screen net spend before starting another qualifier.

The two games share a bonus idea but reach it in very different ways.

What we know about Crazy Coin Flip RTP and max win

We did not find a published RTP or maximum win for Crazy Coin Flip in Evolution's pages or our checked data. With a hybrid game the help screen may list separate returns for normal and enhanced spins, so look for each one. Once you have a figure, the house edge is 100% minus the RTP and your average loss is total staked times that edge. Our RTP guide shows the calculation with several examples.

Crazy Coin Flip in the UK: slot rules or live rules?

This is the open question with a hybrid. The qualifying and Top-Up phases look like a reel-based slot, which the Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) defines as a reel-based casino game played online. The bonus is a live show. We have not found guidance stating which category applies to this game, so check the stake options offered in the UK version.

  • If the slot limits apply, the maximum is £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24; a Super XXXtreme spin at 50x would hit £5 at a 10p base bet.
  • Autoplay is banned for all online casino games, so every spin needs your input.
  • Slots must take at least 2.5 seconds a spin and other casino games at least 5 seconds a game cycle.
  • Turbo and slam-stop features are not allowed, and returns at or below your stake must not be celebrated.
  • Feature buy-ins have not been offered to British players since a Commission warning in January 2020.

Our pages on slot stake limits, game design rules and feature buys in the UK explain each rule.

Frequently asked questions

How does Crazy Coin Flip work?

There are three phases. You spin a slot until three scatters qualify you, then play a timed Top-Up slot that builds red and blue multipliers, and finally join a live host who adds more multipliers and flips a coin. You are paid the winning side's multiplier on your base bet. The idea comes from the Coin Flip bonus in Evolution's Crazy Time, turned into a standalone game.

What are XXXtreme spins in Crazy Coin Flip?

XXXtreme spins are enhanced qualifying spins. An XXXtreme spin costs 5x your base bet and always lands one scatter; a Super XXXtreme spin costs 50x and always lands two. At a 20p base, that is £1 and £10 a spin. They reach the bonus faster but cost far more per spin, and their RTP may differ from normal spins, so check the help screen. Features can also vary by country. Our slot multipliers page explains related mechanics.

Is Crazy Coin Flip a slot or a live game?

It is both. The qualifying and Top-Up phases are slot rounds you play alone, and the Coin Flip bonus is hosted live in a studio. That matters in the UK, where slots and other casino games have different speed rules and only slots carry stake limits. We have not found guidance confirming which category applies, so check the UK version's stake range. Our live casino vs RNG page explains the distinction.

What is the RTP of Crazy Coin Flip?

We did not find a published RTP for Crazy Coin Flip in the sources we checked. Open the game's help screen, where UK-facing games must explain their rules and returns, and look for separate figures for each spin type. With the RTP, your average cost per spin is the stake times 100% minus the RTP. Our cost per hour guide shows how to turn that into a session budget.

Is the coin flip 50/50?

A coin has two sides, so if the flip is fair each side wins half the time on average. Your payout is not 50/50, though, because red and blue usually carry different multipliers. The average result is the midpoint of the two values: with 30x and 8x on a 20p bet, that is 19x, or £3.80. Over many flips you would expect that midpoint, as our law of large numbers guide explains.

When did Crazy Coin Flip launch?

Evolution announced its US debut in New Jersey on 4 December 2023. We did not find a confirmed date for its first launch in other markets, so we have not given one. Availability in Britain depends on each casino, and the UK version may differ from the demo. Check the casino's lobby and the game's information panel. Our Evolution provider page covers the studio's wider range and licences.

Can I buy the bonus in Crazy Coin Flip in the UK?

Feature buy-ins have not been offered to British players since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020. The game's enhanced spins secure scatters rather than buying the bonus outright, and features can vary by jurisdiction, so check which spin options the UK version offers. Never use workarounds to reach features that are not offered in Britain. Our bonus buy slots UK page explains the rule.

How much does it cost to reach the live coin flip?

It depends on your base bet and luck. Using only XXXtreme spins, you need at most three spins, so at a 20p base the most you pay is £3. Using only Super XXXtreme spins, you need at most two, so the most is £20 at the same base. Normal spins cost less each but promise nothing. Our session budget calculator helps you set a limit before you start.
