The Ankh of Anubis slot grid and its 576 ways
Instead of a flat rectangle, Ankh of Anubis uses reels of different heights: three symbols on the outer reels and four on the middle three. In a ways to win game, any symbol on one reel can link with any matching symbol on the next, so the number of paths is the product of the reel heights.
| Reel | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | Total ways |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Symbols shown | 3 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 3 | 3 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 3 = 576 |
| Standard 5×3 grid for comparison | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 243 |
| Standard 5×4 grid for comparison | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 1,024 |
So the game sits between the familiar 243-way and 1,024-way layouts. The shape is a design choice, not a value choice: the RTP is the same whichever grid a studio picks, because the paytable is set to match it.
How the features work in Ankh of Anubis
Ankh of Anubis has one base-game extra and one bonus round. The extra is Anubis Wilds, a random feature that can switch on during any spin of the base game. When it does, it adds wilds to the reels, either as single symbols or in stacks. Because the game pays by ways rather than lines, a stack of wilds on one of the four-high middle reels can join a large share of the 576 ways at once.
Free spins come from pyramid scatters, and the more you land, the longer the round:
| Pyramid scatters | Free spins |
|---|---|
| 3 | 10 |
| 4 | 15 |
| 5 | 20 |
Inside the round, a meter tracks Ankh symbols. Each one that lands is collected, and every time the count reaches five, Anubis Wilds fires, adding wilds just as it can at random in the base game. A long round is therefore useful twice over: more spins give more chances to fill the meter, and each full meter brings another wave of wilds. Three or more scatters during the round retrigger it.
Symbol values and any multiplier figures aren't in our checked data, and the meter doesn't lift the 96.2% top RTP; it decides when in the round the wilds turn up. Listings such as PokerListings' Ankh of Anubis page (opens in a new tab) describe the same structure.
Play'n GO and the Egyptian slot tradition
Play'n GO is a privately held Swedish developer based in Växjö that built its first gaming product in 1997. It's best known for Book of Dead, Reactoonz and Legacy of Dead, and for its recurring explorer Rich Wilde.
Ankh of Anubis came out in 2019 and belongs to the studio's long line of Egyptian-themed slots. Unlike the 10-line "book" games, though, it's a ways game with an irregular grid, so it plays quite differently from Book of Dead even if the artwork feels familiar.
We haven't verified symbol values or any multiplier ranges for Ankh of Anubis from Play'n GO directly. Open the paytable for those; it must be available before you stake.
Ankh of Anubis RTP and the lower versions
The top published RTP is 96.2%, a house edge of 3.8%. Lower settings are also available to casinos, and the game looks the same in every version. We don't have the exact lower figures, so the table shows what 96.2% costs, plus a 94.2% line purely as an illustration of how two points of RTP change the bill.
| Stake | Per 100 spins at 96.2% | Per 1,000 spins at 96.2% | Per 1,000 spins at 94.2% (illustration) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10p | 38p | £3.80 | £5.80 |
| 50p | £1.90 | £19 | £29 |
| £1 | £3.80 | £38 | £58 |
| £2 | £7.60 | £76 | £116 |
- Open the game and tap the menu or information button.
- Scroll to the game rules and find the RTP figure.
- If it's below 96.2%, you're on a lower version; compare other UK-licensed casinos if that matters to you.
Our page on whether a higher RTP slot is better explains why a couple of points matter over a long session but barely register in a short one.
High volatility: what £20 looks like on Ankh of Anubis
With a 15,000× ceiling and a high volatility rating, a big part of the game's return is held back for rare large wins. In between, the base game will often return less than you put in. That's normal for the category and says nothing about whether a win is "due".
| Stake | Spins if nothing came back | Average cost of staking £20 | 15,000× at this stake |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10p | 200 | 76p | £1,500 |
| 50p | 40 | 76p | £7,500 |
| £1 | 20 | 76p | £15,000 |
The cost column barely moves because 3.8% of £20 is 76p however you split it. What changes is how many chances you get. At £1 a spin, twenty spins on a high-volatility slot can easily return almost nothing; at 10p you'll see far more of how the game behaves before the budget runs down.
Ankh of Anubis max win: 15,000× in pounds
The cap is 15,000 times the stake: £1,500 at 10p, £30,000 at the £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24, and £75,000 at the £5 limit for those 25 and over. We haven't found published odds of reaching it from Play'n GO, and we don't use third-party estimates.
Two things are worth keeping in mind. First, a capped game stops paying at the cap. Second, the cap tells you about the shape of the game, not your chances: a high ceiling usually goes with longer dry spells. Our explainer on the highest paying slot looks at why the biggest caps aren't the best value.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Ankh of Anubis?
The top RTP of Ankh of Anubis is 96.2%, which leaves a house edge of 3.8%, or about 3.8p per £1 staked on average. Lower versions are also offered to casinos, and the game looks the same in each, so check the rules screen before you play. The figure describes a very long run of spins, not a single session. Our guide to slot RTP explains how to read it.
How many ways to win does Ankh of Anubis have?
Ankh of Anubis has 576 ways to win. The five reels show 3, 4, 4, 4 and 3 symbols, and multiplying those heights gives 3 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 3 = 576. Matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left form a win, without fixed lines. That's more than a standard 243-way grid and fewer than a 1,024-way one. Our ways to win explainer covers the maths.
What is the max win on Ankh of Anubis?
The max win on Ankh of Anubis is 15,000 times your stake. That's £1,500 at 10p, £15,000 at £1 and £75,000 at the £5 UK maximum for players aged 25 and over. We haven't found published odds of reaching it, and reaching it is very rare. A high cap like this usually comes with long losing spells. Read our page on slot max wins for context.
Is Ankh of Anubis high volatility?
Yes, Ankh of Anubis is rated high volatility. Wins tend to be less frequent, and a large share of the return sits in rarer, bigger results. That doesn't change the average cost of about 3.8% of stakes at the top RTP, but it makes short sessions swing much more. Smaller stakes give you more spins for the same budget. Our high volatility slots page compares similar games.
Who makes Ankh of Anubis?
Play'n GO makes Ankh of Anubis, and released it in 2019. The Swedish studio is based in Växjö, is independent and privately held, and built its first gaming product in 1997. It's known for Book of Dead, Reactoonz and Legacy of Dead, and for the explorer character Rich Wilde. Our Play'n GO page lists the studio's games we've reviewed with their RTPs.
Can you buy the bonus in Ankh of Anubis?
No, you can't buy the bonus in Ankh of Anubis on UK sites. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so any feature has to come from normal spins. The Commission was concerned that paying to skip straight to a feature could encourage bigger stakes. See whether you can buy bonus rounds on UK slots for more.
Is Ankh of Anubis like Book of Dead?
They share a developer and an Egyptian theme, but they play differently. Book of Dead uses 10 paylines on a 5×3 grid with a 5,000× cap, while Ankh of Anubis uses a 3-4-4-4-3 grid with 576 ways and a 15,000× cap. Both are rated high volatility, with top RTPs of 96.21% and 96.2%. Compare them on our Book of Dead review and our Egyptian slots page.
What is the most I can bet on Ankh of Anubis?
In Great Britain the most you can bet on Ankh of Anubis is £5 a spin if you're 25 or over, or £2 a spin if you're 18 to 24. The limits have applied to all online slots since 9 April and 21 May 2025, and they count every stake within one game cycle. They don't cover table or live games. Our page on the maximum stake on a UK slot explains more.
