Big Bass Splash slot review

What sets it apart in the Big Bass family is that up to five random modifiers can be added before the free spins start. Below we explain each one, then work out what the game costs per hour at UK spin speeds.

  • Max win is 5,000x: £500 at 10p, £25,000 at the £5 UK cap.
  • At the fastest legal pace a 10p player could stake £144 an hour, an average cost of about £4.74.

Big Bass Splash slot in one minute

This slot keeps the core recipe from Reel Kingdom's fishing series: fish symbols carry cash values, and a Fisherman wild collects them during free spins. Its twist is a set of modifiers that may be added at random just before the bonus begins, so two free spins rounds triggered by the same number of scatters can start with very different prospects.

On paper it pairs the original's 96.71% RTP with a much higher 5,000x ceiling. That combination, plus the modifiers, places it between the simple first game and the more extreme later editions. Our Big Bass series page lists them all, and the slot reviews hub covers games beyond fishing.

How the features work in Big Bass Splash

Fish money and the Fisherman

Fish money symbols show cash values, but they only pay when the Fisherman wild collects them during the free spins. A fish sitting on the reels in the base game is just a symbol.

Triggering free spins

Three, four or five scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free spins.

The pre-bonus modifiers

Before the round starts, up to five random modifiers can apply. The developer's description, also set out in gambling.com's Big Bass Splash review (opens in a new tab), gives examples including extra fish, extra Fishermen, extra spins and starting the round at the 2x level. The table explains what each does to your chances inside the round.

More FishermenAdds Fisherman wilds to the reelsMore collections and faster progress towards retriggers
More spinsIncreases the number of free spinsMore chances for Fishermen and fish to coincide
Start at 2xRound begins at the 2x collection levelEvery collection is doubled from the first spin

We have described the modifiers the developer names. The game's help screen has the full list, and we don't have published odds for how often each one applies, so we haven't estimated them.

Retriggers and the collection multiplier

Every fourth Fisherman adds 10 spins and moves the collection multiplier up, to 2x, then 3x, then 10x.

What a 2x start is worth: a worked example

Take an illustrative round where Fishermen collect £6 of fish values in total at the base level before the first retrigger. With no modifier, that pays £6. If the round had started at the 2x level, those same collections would pay £12. The modifier doesn't change which symbols land; it changes what they are worth.

Modifiers are already part of the game's 96.71% RTP. They make some rounds richer than others, but they don't add value on top of the published return, and they can't be bought or chosen on the British version. Our page on slot bonus rounds explains how features like this fit into a game's overall maths.

Big Bass Splash RTP and cost per hour at UK speeds

The 96.71% RTP means an average cost of 3.29% of everything staked. The UK's 2.5-second minimum per spin, set out in RTS 14 (opens in a new tab), caps the pace at 1,440 spins an hour (3,600 seconds divided by 2.5). Real play is slower, especially once free spins animations are added, but that limit gives a useful upper bound for cost per hour.

StakeTurnover at 1,440 spins/hourAverage cost per hourAt an illustrative 600 spins/hour
10p£144£4.74£1.97
20p£288£9.48£3.95
50p£720£23.69£9.87
£1£1,440£47.38£19.74

Two lessons stand out. The average cost is driven by stake multiplied by pace, so slowing down cuts it as surely as lowering the stake. And on a high-volatility game the actual result of any single hour can be far worse, or better, than the average. Our session budget calculator lets you run your own numbers. Our explainer on the 2.5-second rule covers the timing in detail.

A £20 budget on Big Bass Splash

With £20, the expected cost of putting the whole amount through the reels once is about 66p whatever the stake. The difference lies in how many spins you get: 200 at 10p, 40 at 50p, 20 at £1. High volatility means a large part of the return waits for free spins, so the lower the stake, the more chances you have to reach the bonus before the budget runs out. No budget assures a bonus.

  • 10p: the best fit for a £20 session on a game this swingy.
  • 50p: workable, but expect sessions that end before any bonus.
  • £1: each spin is a twentieth of the budget, so a short losing run can finish it.

Big Bass Splash max win: 5,000x in pounds

£1£5,000
£2 (UK cap for 18 to 24)£10,000
£5 (UK cap for 25 and over)£25,000

The cap is a ceiling that very few rounds come near. It sits above the original's 2,100x and below the 20,000x of Big Bass Bonanza 1000. The UK stake limits explain why £5 is the highest stake you can use, and the Commission's stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) has the official wording.

How to play Big Bass Splash online

  1. Load the game and open the paytable to see symbol values and the list of possible modifiers.
  2. Check the RTP in the help screen; it should read 96.71%.
  3. Set your stake, within £5 a spin if you are 25 or over or £2 if you are 18 to 24.
  4. Press spin for each round; there is no autoplay and every spin lasts at least 2.5 seconds.
  5. When three to five scatters land, watch for modifiers before the 10 to 20 free spins begin.
  6. Track the Fisherman count for retriggers, and use the on-screen time and net position to stick to your plan.

Big Bass Splash myths

  • Myth: modifiers come more often after a run of plain bonuses. Each one is a fresh random outcome, just as each spin is.
  • Myth: after a big win the game is 'hot'. That is the hot hand fallacy; past results don't shift future odds.
  • Myth: stopping and restarting the game resets your luck. The random number generator doesn't track sessions.
  • Fact: a modifier-boosted round can still pay little. Extra fish are worthless if no Fisherman lands to collect them.

Our slot myths page tackles more of these.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Big Bass Splash?

The published RTP is 96.71%, giving the game a 3.29% margin over the long run. That is the same figure as the original Big Bass Bonanza, and it already includes the value of the random modifiers. Any single session can differ a lot from the average. Confirm the RTP in the help screen before playing. Read our guide to slot RTP for more.

What are the modifiers in Big Bass Splash?

Up to five random modifiers can be added before the free spins begin. The developer's examples include extra fish money symbols, extra Fisherman wilds, extra spins and starting the round at the 2x collection level. They make some rounds stronger than others but are already priced into the 96.71% RTP. The help screen shows the full list. Our page on slot bonus rounds explains how such features work.

What is the max win on Big Bass Splash?

The top prize is 5,000 times the stake. That is £500 at 10p, £5,000 at £1 and £25,000 at the £5 maximum stake allowed for UK players aged 25 and over. The cap is reached very rarely. It is higher than the original Big Bass Bonanza's 2,100x but lower than some later editions. See our explainer on max win caps.

How many free spins can you get on Big Bass Splash?

You start with 10, 15 or 20 free spins for three, four or five scatters. A modifier can add more spins before the round, and every fourth Fisherman collected adds 10 more while raising the multiplier to 2x, 3x and then 10x. How long a round lasts therefore depends on how many Fishermen land. Our slot free spins guide covers retriggers in general.

Is Big Bass Splash high volatility?

Yes, it is rated high volatility. Fish values only pay when collected in free spins, and the modifiers add another layer of swing, so most of the return arrives in occasional strong rounds. Expect sessions with no bonus at all, especially at higher stakes on a small budget. Our guide to high volatility slots compares it with similar games.

How fast can you play Big Bass Splash in the UK?

Each spin must take at least 2.5 seconds on UK slots, which caps play at 1,440 spins an hour, and there is no autoplay, turbo or slam-stop. At 10p that pace would mean £144 of stakes and an average cost of about £4.74 an hour; real play is usually slower. Our page on UK game speed rules explains the limits.

Can you buy the bonus on Big Bass Splash?

Not on UK-licensed sites. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so free spins only come from landing scatters. The Commission said such features risked breaching its rules on clear game information and chasing losses. More on our feature buy UK rules page and in our how slots work guide.
