Money Train 4 slot quick facts
Money Train 4 is the fourth main game in Relax Gaming's best-known series. Relax, founded in 2010 and licensed in Great Britain under Gambling Commission account 37462, kept the Money Cart bonus that defines the series but rebuilt the base game around a square grid and scatter pays.
| Specification | Money Train 4 |
|---|---|
| Developer | Relax Gaming |
| Released | 2023 |
| Grid | 6 × 6; bonus grid starts at 6 × 4 |
| How wins pay | Scatter pays: 8 or more matching symbols anywhere |
| RTP | 96.1% default; 94% version widely used in the UK |
| Volatility | High (some reviewers say very high) |
| Max win | 150,000 × stake |
How the features work in Money Train 4
Scatter pays on a 6×6 grid
There are no paylines. After each spin the game counts every symbol type on the 36 positions, and any type with eight or more copies anywhere pays. Position doesn't matter: eight matching symbols spread around the grid pay exactly as eight in a neat block would. That's different from cluster pays, where matching symbols must touch.
Random base game respins
A respin feature can trigger at random on a base spin, giving an extra chance at a win without a new stake. It's separate from the main bonus and arrives without warning.
The Money Cart bonus
Three or more bonus scatters start the Money Cart. Play moves to a bonus grid that begins six positions wide and four rows high, and you get three spins. Each time a new symbol sticks, the spin count resets to three. Filling rows can open up to four extra rows, each adding another six positions to fill. The round ends when three spins in a row add nothing.
Special symbols
Collectors, Payers, Snipers and Necromancers all act on the values already on the grid, and persistent Shapeshifters keep working through the round. Together they decide whether a bonus pays a few times the stake or something far larger. The help screen lists exactly what each one does and in which order they act. Our hold and win guide explains the general format.
Money Train 4 RTP: 96.1% or 94%?
This is the most important practical point about Money Train 4. Relax publishes 96.1% as the default, but OLBG's review says a 94% version is the one used by most UK casinos. Both versions play identically; the difference is in how much of each stake comes back over the long run.
| Total staked | Cost at 96.1% RTP | Cost at 94% RTP | Extra cost of the 94% version |
|---|---|---|---|
| £20 | £0.78 | £1.20 | £0.42 |
| £100 | £3.90 | £6.00 | £2.10 |
| £500 | £19.50 | £30.00 | £10.50 |
| £1,000 | £39.00 | £60.00 | £21.00 |
In other words, the 94% version costs about 54% more per pound staked (6.0p against 3.9p). Over a single short session you won't notice it, because high volatility swamps the difference, but over months of play it adds up. UK rules require casinos to make game rules and the likelihood of winning available, as the Commission's RTS 3 on rules and game descriptions (opens in a new tab) explains, so the figure should be in the game's information screen. Our page on UK RTP information rules covers what must be shown.
How to check which Money Train 4 version you're playing
- Open Money Train 4 at your casino, signed in and age-verified.
- Tap the menu or information icon, usually shown as an "i" or three lines.
- Open the game rules or paytable section and scroll to the end.
- Look for the return to player or theoretical payout percentage.
- If it shows 94%, the cost per £1 staked is 6.0p on average; at 96.1% it's 3.9p.
- If you can't find it, ask the casino's support team before you play.
Money Train 4 volatility and a £20 budget
Relax rates the game high volatility, and OLBG goes further and calls it very high. Expect plenty of spins where the grid pays nothing or very little, with the Money Cart carrying most of the return. The table shows how a £20 budget plays out at three stakes under both RTP versions.
| Stake | Spins if nothing came back | Average cost at 96.1% | Average cost at 94% | Max win at this stake |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10p | 200 | £0.78 | £1.20 | £15,000 |
| 50p | 40 | £0.78 | £1.20 | £75,000 |
| £1 | 20 | £0.78 | £1.20 | £150,000 |
The averages are small next to how much a high-volatility session can swing. What changes with stake is how many attempts you get at the bonus: 200 at 10p against 20 at £1. Our guides to slot volatility and expected value show how to think about both numbers together.
Money Train 4 max win of 150,000x
The top prize is 150,000 times the stake: £15,000 at 10p and £150,000 at £1. It's the highest cap in the main Money Train series, ahead of Money Train 3's 100,000x. A cap is a ceiling the game won't exceed, and results at that level are vanishingly rare. Most Money Cart rounds pay a small multiple of the stake.
Money Train 4 against the payline Money Train games
| Feature | Money Train 3 | Money Train 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Base game | 5 × 4 reels, 40 fixed paylines | 6 × 6 grid, scatter pays (8+) |
| RTP (default) | 96.1% | 96.1% (94% version common in UK) |
| Volatility | High, top of Relax's scale | High |
| Max win | 100,000× stake | 150,000× stake |
| Bonus | Money Cart, three resetting respins, extra reels | Money Cart from 6 × 4, three resetting spins, up to four extra rows |

Money Train 4 verdict
Advantages
- Scatter pays make the base grid easy to read
- Busy Money Cart bonus with persistent Shapeshifters

- Random respins add base-game interest
Drawbacks
- A 94% version is common in the UK, costing more per spin

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Money Train 4?
Money Train 4's default RTP is 96.1%, but OLBG's review says most UK casinos use a 94% version. At 96.1% the average long-run cost is 3.9p per £1 staked; at 94% it's 6.0p. Both versions play the same way, so the only way to know which you have is the game's information screen. Our guide to UK RTP display rules explains where casinos must show it.
How does scatter pays work in Money Train 4?
Scatter pays means any eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the 6×6 grid form a win, regardless of where they sit. There are no paylines and the symbols don't need to touch. After each spin the game counts every symbol type and pays each one that reaches eight or more. This differs from cluster pays, where matching symbols must be connected. Our ways to win guide compares the main win systems.
How do you trigger the Money Cart in Money Train 4?
Three or more bonus scatters trigger the Money Cart. The bonus starts on a grid six wide and four high with three spins, and the count resets to three whenever a new symbol sticks. Filling rows can open up to four extra rows. The round ends after three spins in a row add nothing. Feature buys aren't offered in Britain. See our page on slot respins for how reset counters work.
What is the max win on Money Train 4?
The max win is 150,000 times your stake, which is £15,000 at 10p and £150,000 at £1. It's the highest cap in the main Money Train series, and results at that level are exceptionally rare. Most Money Cart rounds pay a small multiple of the stake. For how to read caps and compare them fairly, see what a slot's max win means.
Is Money Train 4 high volatility?
Yes, it's a high-volatility game, and OLBG describes it as very high. Most of the return comes through the Money Cart, so long runs of small or no wins are normal in the base game. A lower stake gives you more attempts at the bonus from the same budget: 200 spins at 10p from £20 against 20 at £1. Our high volatility slots page lists similar games.
Is Money Train 4 better than Money Train 3?
The newer game isn't simply better: it has a higher 150,000x cap and a scatter-pays grid, while Money Train 3 keeps 40 paylines and a 100,000x cap. Both have a 96.1% default RTP, but if your casino runs Money Train 4's 94% version it costs more per spin. Choose the format you prefer and check the RTP screen. Our Money Train 3 review covers the earlier game.
What are Shapeshifters in Money Train 4?
Shapeshifters are special symbols in the Money Cart bonus, and in Money Train 4 they come in persistent form, meaning they keep working through the round rather than acting once. They sit alongside Collectors, Payers, Snipers and Necromancers, which all change the values on the grid. The exact behaviour and order are in the help screen. Our bonus rounds guide covers how special symbols shape bonus payouts.
