Money Train slots
Money Train slots are Relax Gaming’s Wild West train-robbery series, five games from 2019 to 2026 whose top prizes climb from 20,000x to 150,000x the stake. This guide lines them up side by side, shows what the published RTPs mean in pounds, and explains why these are some of the most volatile slots you can play in the UK.
Key takeaways
- Five Money Train games are in our checked data, all from Relax Gaming, with default RTPs between 96.1% and 96.4%.
- Max wins rise from 20,000x (Money Train) to 150,000x (Money Train 4), which tells you how swingy the later games are.
- Lower-RTP versions exist for several titles, so check the help screen before you spin.
- UK limits of £5 a spin (25 and over) or £2 (18–24) apply to every game in the series.

Money Train slots: what ties the series together
The Money Train name belongs to Relax Gaming, a studio founded in 2010 that began in Tallinn, is now based in Malta and holds Gambling Commission account 37462. Relax has made its own slots since 2018, and the first Money Train arrived a year later. It has become the studio’s best-known series, and each sequel has kept the same outlaw-and-locomotive setting while pushing the top prize higher.
What links the games is less the artwork than the shape of the maths. Every title rated in our checked data is high volatility, the stake multiples on offer are very large, and most of the value sits in a bonus round rather than in the base game. That combination means long dry spells are normal and a single feature can be worth more than hundreds of ordinary spins. If you’re new to that idea, our guide to slot volatility explains it with numbers.
This page sits in our slot themes and series section. If it’s the cowboy setting you like rather than the Relax maths, our wider western slots page covers games from other studios.
Every Money Train slot compared
The table below uses the published specification for each game. Where a cell is blank in our data (Money Train 2 has no confirmed release year, and the original has no confirmed volatility rating) we’ve said so rather than guess.
| Game | Released | RTP (default) | Volatility | Layout | Ways to win | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Money Train | 2019 | 96.2% | Not published in our data | 5 reels × 4 rows | 40 fixed paylines | 20,000x |
| Money Train 2 | Check the help screen | 96.40% | High | 5 reels × 4 rows | 40 paylines | 50,000x |
| Money Train 3 | 2022 | 96.1% | High (top of Relax’s scale) | 5 reels × 4 rows | 40 fixed paylines | 100,000x |
| Money Train 4 | 2023 | 96.1% (94% version common) | High | 6 × 6 (bonus grid starts at 6 × 4) | Scatter pays, 8+ matching symbols | 150,000x |
| Money Train 5 | 2026 | 96.1% (lower versions exist) | Check the help screen | 5 reels × 4 rows | 40 paylines | 100,000x Ultra, 50,000x Standard |
Two things stand out. First, the default RTP barely moves: there’s only 0.3 of a percentage point between the most and least generous defaults. Second, the max win has grown sevenfold from the first game to the fourth. The series has become steadily more top-heavy while the long-run return stayed in the same narrow band, so more of that return is concentrated in rare, very large outcomes.
Money Train max win in pounds at UK stakes
A multiple such as 150,000x means little until you attach a stake to it. Here is each game’s published ceiling at four stake sizes, including the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over. These are caps, the most the game can pay from one spin and its feature, not amounts you should expect to see.
| Game | Max win | At 10p | At 50p | At £1 | At £5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Money Train | 20,000x | £2,000 | £10,000 | £20,000 | £100,000 |
| Money Train 2 | 50,000x | £5,000 | £25,000 | £50,000 | £250,000 |
| Money Train 3 | 100,000x | £10,000 | £50,000 | £100,000 | £500,000 |
| Money Train 4 | 150,000x | £15,000 | £75,000 | £150,000 | £750,000 |
| Money Train 5 (Standard) | 50,000x | £5,000 | £25,000 | £50,000 | £250,000 |
| Money Train 5 (Ultra) | 100,000x | £10,000 | £50,000 | £100,000 | £500,000 |
Developers rarely publish how often a maximum is reached, and you shouldn’t trust anyone who claims to know. What you can say from the maths is that a ceiling this high, paired with an RTP near 96%, has to be paid for by many spins that return little or nothing. Our explainer on what a slot’s max win means goes further.
Money Train RTP: why the version at your casino matters
Relax, like most studios, supplies some games at more than one return setting. Money Train 5 is listed with lower versions alongside its 96.1% default, and a 2026 listing for Money Train 4 notes that a 94% version is the one most UK casinos use. The rules require casinos to show the RTP in the game information, so the figure on the help screen is the one that counts, not the headline number. The reasons are set out in why slot RTPs differ between casinos.
The gap looks small as a percentage, but it adds up. Expected loss is simply the total staked multiplied by the house edge (100% minus the RTP). Take 1,000 spins at 50p, which is £500 staked:
| RTP setting | House edge | Average loss | Average returned |
|---|---|---|---|
| 96.40% (Money Train 2 default) | 3.60% | £18.00 | £482.00 |
| 96.2% (Money Train default) | 3.8% | £19.00 | £481.00 |
| 96.1% (Money Train 3, 4 and 5 default) | 3.9% | £19.50 | £480.50 |
| 94% (lower version) | 6% | £30.00 | £470.00 |
On the 94% setting the same play costs about £10.50 more on average than the 96.1% default, an increase of more than half. These are long-run averages across huge numbers of spins. In a single high-volatility session the result will almost always be far from the average, in either direction, which is exactly why the RTP shouldn’t be read as a forecast.
How long £20 lasts on a high-volatility Money Train game
Volatility describes how a game spreads its return. A low-volatility slot pays small amounts often; a high-volatility one like every rated Money Train title pays rarely, and much of its RTP comes from the bonus round. For a £20 budget the practical effect is that stake size decides how many attempts you get at that feature.
- 10p a spin: £20 covers 200 spins before any wins come back. At 96.1% the average cost of staking that £20 once is 78p, but on a game this swingy many sessions will see the balance run down without a feature at all.
- 50p a spin: 40 spins. That’s a short session on any slot, and a very short one on a game that saves its value for the bonus.
- £1 a spin: 20 spins. One cold run and the budget is gone, so this only suits players who accept that outcome as the cost of the entertainment.
None of this changes the long-run edge; a smaller stake simply spreads the same percentage cost over more spins. Our guide on how long £20 lasts on a slot runs the same sums for other game types.
The Money Train bonus rounds as published
The series is built around a respin style bonus, in the family of hold and win features where symbols lock in place while the remaining positions spin again. The published details we can confirm are these:
- Money Train 4 starts its bonus on a 6 × 4 grid that can grow to 6 × 6, and its base game uses scatter pays (8 or more matching symbols anywhere) rather than the 40 lines of the earlier games.
- Money Train 5, according to OLBG’s Money Train 5 listing (opens in a new tab), uses respin-style free spins with a choice of Standard and Ultra modes plus a Super Free Spins upgrade. The mode matters: its listed ceiling is 50,000x in Standard and 100,000x in Ultra.
- Money Train, 2 and 3 share a 5 × 4 layout with 40 paylines in the base game.
Exact symbol rules, trigger conditions and multiplier ranges vary between the games, so read the help screen of the version you open. We don’t quote how often the bonus lands, because developers don’t publish it and third-party estimates aren’t reliable.
Money Train bonus buy and the UK position
In some markets, games like these let players pay a large sum to go straight to the bonus. You won’t see that option at a British casino. After the Gambling Commission’s games warning to online operators (opens in a new tab) in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players; the Commission said they risked breaching its standards on game rules and on encouraging players to chase losses. The UK feature buy position is covered in full on its own page.
That matters for the maths too. Without a buy option, the only route to the bonus is through base-game spins, so your budget and stake size decide how many chances you get.
UK rules that apply to Money Train slots online
Every Money Train game at a UK-licensed casino runs under the same Gambling Commission rules as any other online slot:
- A maximum stake of £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over (from 9 April 2025) and £2 for those aged 18 to 24 (from 21 May 2025), as set out in the Commission’s online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab).
- No autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, and at least 2.5 seconds per spin, under the game design rules in force since 31 October 2021.
- No celebrating a return that is less than or equal to your stake, and your net spend and time played shown on screen.
- Age and identity checks before you can deposit, and even before you can try a free demo.
The 2.5-second minimum puts a hard ceiling of 1,440 spins on an hour of play. At 20p a spin that would be £288 staked, and even at a 96.1% RTP the average cost of that hour would be about £11.23. Most players spin slower, but it shows why session limits help.
How to check a Money Train game before you play
- Open the game and find the information or help screen (usually an “i” or menu icon).
- Read the RTP figure shown there. If it’s noticeably below the default in our table, you’re on a lower version.
- Check the stake range and confirm your stake sits within the £5 or £2 limit that applies to you.
- Read the bonus rules: how the feature starts, which symbols lock, and any mode choice (Money Train 5 has Standard and Ultra).
- Set a deposit limit and a session time before you start, using the casino’s safer-gambling tools.
- Pick a stake that gives you the number of spins you want from your budget, and stop when the budget is spent.
Slots similar to the Money Train series
If it’s the lock-and-respin bonus you enjoy, a few other games in our data follow a related pattern. Relax’s own Money Cart 2 has a respin bonus with collector, persistent and multiplier symbols, and is listed at 98.00% RTP with lower versions available. Nolimit City’s Fire in the Hole 2 uses Lucky Wagon hold-and-win free spins, and Dead Canary has a hold-and-win style Canary Bonus Round.
For the setting rather than the mechanic, Nolimit City’s Tombstone series and El Paso Gunfight are western games with similarly extreme ceilings. All of these are high volatility, so the budget advice above applies just as much.

Frequently asked questions
How many Money Train slots are there?
There are five numbered Money Train slots in our checked data: Money Train (2019), Money Train 2, Money Train 3 (2022), Money Train 4 (2023) and Money Train 5 (2026). All come from Relax Gaming. Relax also makes Money Cart 2, a related respin game that isn’t part of the numbered series. Each sequel has kept the train-robbery setting while raising the top prize. The Relax Gaming profile lists the studio’s other games.
Which Money Train slot has the highest RTP?
Money Train 2 has the highest default RTP in the series at 96.40%, just ahead of the original at 96.2%. Money Train 3, 4 and 5 all default to 96.1%. Defaults aren’t always what you get, though: a 94% version of Money Train 4 is widely used, and Money Train 5 has lower versions too. Always read the figure in the game’s help screen. Our RTP explainer shows what a percentage point is worth in pounds.
What is the Money Train 4 max win?
Money Train 4’s published maximum is 150,000 times the stake, the highest in the series. At 10p that’s £15,000, and at the UK’s £5 cap for players aged 25 and over it would be £750,000. A ceiling is the most a game can pay, not a likely result, and a figure that high means most spins return far less than average. Our full Money Train 4 page has the rest of the specification.
Can you buy the bonus on Money Train in the UK?
No, you can’t buy the bonus at a UK-licensed casino. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, because the Commission said they risked breaching its standards on game rules and chasing losses. Versions offered elsewhere may include a buy option, but the British version reaches the bonus only through normal spins. The background is in can you buy bonus rounds on UK slots?.
Are Money Train slots high volatility?
Yes, every Money Train game with a published rating in our data is high volatility, and Money Train 3 sits at the top of Relax’s own scale. That means long runs of small or no wins, with much of the return held back for the bonus round. It suits players who accept that a budget can disappear quickly. The variance explainer covers what that means for a session.
Is Money Train 5 better than Money Train 4?
Neither is better in the long run: both default to 96.1% RTP, so the average cost per pound staked is the same. They differ in shape. Money Train 4 uses a 6 × 6 scatter-pays grid and a 150,000x ceiling, while Money Train 5 returns to a 5 × 4, 40-line layout with Standard and Ultra bonus modes capped at 50,000x and 100,000x. Our Money Train 5 review sets out its modes in more detail.
What is the maximum stake on Money Train in the UK?
The maximum stake is £5 a spin if you’re 25 or over and £2 a spin if you’re 18 to 24, because Money Train games count as online slots under the Gambling Commission’s stake limits. Those limits came in on 9 April 2025 and 21 May 2025 respectively. A casino may set a lower maximum on its own version. For how a game cycle is defined, see UK slot stake limits.
Do Money Train slots pay out more at certain times?
No. Every spin on a Money Train game is decided by a certified random number generator, so the time of day, how long since the last bonus or how much others have won makes no difference. A slot has no memory and is never due a feature. The RTP is a long-run average across millions of spins, not a schedule. Our page on slot timing myths explains why.
