Live baccarat UK guide

Live baccarat UK tables stream a real dealer and a real shoe from a studio, and you bet through an on-screen layout at the same odds as the classic game: 1.06% on Banker and 1.24% on Player with eight decks. What changes between tables is speed, presentation and, on some versions, an extra fee that changes the cost.

Key takeaways

  • Standard live baccarat keeps the classic odds: Banker 1.06%, Player 1.24%, Tie 14.36% at 8 to 1 or 4.84% at 9 to 1 (eight decks).
  • Speed matters: about 48 seconds a round on Evolution's standard table against about 27 seconds on Speed Baccarat, which nearly doubles the hourly cost.
  • Lightning, Peek and Golden Wealth tables charge a 20% fee; no-commission tables pay half on a Banker 6, raising the Banker edge to about 1.46%.
  • UK rules ban autoplay on live tables and require at least 5 seconds per game cycle, but slot stake caps don't apply.

What live baccarat is and how UK players access it

Live baccarat is baccarat dealt by a real croupier on camera. The dealer draws from a physical shoe at a studio table, the stream reaches your phone or computer, and you place chips on a digital layout during a timed betting window. The software reads the cards, settles bets and shows the result, while the dealer handles the game exactly as in a land-based casino.

Studios are built for broadcast. Evolution says its games run in real time, often 24 hours a day, from studios designed like TV sets with multi-camera video, lighting and IT systems. Pragmatic Play says its studios use several 4K cameras and its streaming can reach a delay as low as 1.5 to 2 seconds, conditions permitting. Evolution also runs Dual Play tables inside land-based casinos, naming the UK among the locations, so online players can join a real casino-floor game. More on the set-up is in how live casino works.

Live games cost operators far more to run than software games, which is one reason sites tend to keep a focused range of live tables, with baccarat, roulette, blackjack and sic bo among the usual choices.

Live baccarat UK tables: the main versions

Most live lobbies carry several baccarat formats from the same studios. These are the main ones described in Evolution's live baccarat range (opens in a new tab).

Evolution also streams Dragon Tiger and the dice game Bac Bo in its baccarat section. Dragon Tiger is a separate game with a 3.73% edge on its main bets, so don't treat it as baccarat by another name.

Live baccarat odds and house edge

A standard live table uses the same Punto Banco rules and drawing rules as any other baccarat game, so the odds are the same as the classic figures. With eight decks, Banker wins 45.86% of rounds, Player 44.62% and the hands tie 9.52% of the time. Banker pays 19 to 20 after the 5% commission, Player pays even money and ties push both main bets.

Tie9 to 14.84%48p

Sources differ on the usual tie price: one long-standing maths reference says almost all casinos pay 8 to 1, while another says most UK casinos pay 9 to 1. Check the payout on the table before you place a tie bet, because it changes the cost by a factor of three. Six decks barely move the main bets but nudge the tie to 14.44% at 8 to 1. Full detail is on the baccarat odds page.

Round speed and what live baccarat costs per hour

The house edge is a cost per bet, so the number of bets per hour matters as much as the edge. Evolution's figures give about 48 seconds per standard round and about 27 seconds on Speed Baccarat. That works out at roughly 75 rounds an hour against 133.

Average hourly cost of a £10 bet every round
BetStandard table (about 75 rounds an hour)Speed table (about 133 rounds an hour)
Banker£7.95£14.13
Player£9.30£16.53
Tie at 8 to 1£107.70£191.47

Squeeze tables take extra time over the reveal, so fewer rounds an hour means a lower hourly cost at the same stake. Your actual result in any hour can be far above or below these averages; they are what the maths predicts over long play. Our cost per hour guide and the session budget calculator let you run your own numbers.

Fee-based live baccarat: Lightning, Peek and Golden Wealth

Three popular Evolution formats add a 20% charge. On Lightning Baccarat the Lightning Fee is added to your total bet, so a £10 bet costs £12 to place. In return, one to five Lightning Cards are drawn by RNG each round with multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x, which boost winning hands that contain them. Peek Baccarat charges 20% on Player or Banker bets for the chance to look at one to four cards and then double or triple your bet. Golden Wealth Baccarat works like Lightning, with five Golden Cards a round.

Evolution's public pages don't publish an RTP for these tables, so we can't give a house edge. The fee is paid every round whether you win or lose, which is why these games should be judged on their own help-screen RTP rather than on the classic 1.06% figure. UK-licensed games must explain their rules and the likelihood of winning, so the help screen is the place to look.

Squeeze tables and how the cameras work

The squeeze is a slow, dramatic card reveal borrowed from high-limit land-based baccarat. On Evolution's Baccarat Squeeze, cards are dealt face down and close-up cameras follow the dealer as they bend and reveal the cards for the hand with the larger total wager. The hand with less money on it is turned over quickly. Evolution says the table uses more than 15 cameras.

Control Squeeze hands the reveal to you: cameras under the table read the cards, and you peel back an overlay on each card yourself. Evolution says new players can practise the squeeze without placing a bet. None of this affects the odds, because the cards are already fixed when they leave the shoe. Our baccarat squeeze page covers the format in more depth, and live dealers explains the people behind the tables.

How to play live baccarat online

  1. Sign up at a UK-licensed casino and complete age and identity checks; you can't deposit or play, even in demo, until they are done.
  2. Set a deposit limit when prompted before your first deposit, and decide your session budget.
  3. Open the live casino lobby, choose a baccarat table and check its limits, deck count and tie payout in the help screen.
  4. When the betting timer opens, place chips on Banker, Player or Tie, plus any side bet you have checked.
  5. Watch the deal. Naturals end the round at once; otherwise the third card rule decides who draws.
  6. Winnings are credited automatically. Use re-bet to repeat a stake, or change it before the next timer closes.

If the rules are new to you, read how to play baccarat and the third card rule first. You never have to make drawing decisions, but knowing them makes the game far easier to follow.

UK rules for live baccarat

Live baccarat sits under the Gambling Commission's rules for online casino games, which changed on 17 January 2025. The Commission banned autoplay for all online gaming products from that date and said it saw no convincing reason to leave live casino out, as its decision on autoplay (opens in a new tab) explains. It also noted that a re-bet button is not autoplay and can help with short betting windows.

  • Game speed: casino games other than slots must allow at least 5 seconds from the start of one game cycle to the next.
  • One game at a time: the 2025 rules stop players playing several games at once. Evolution describes a Multiplay interface for betting across its baccarat tables, so expect multi-table features to be limited or missing on UK sites.
  • Spend and time: net spend and time spent must be shown in real time.
  • No slot stake caps: the £5 and £2 per spin limits cover slots only, so table limits apply instead. See live casino limits.
  • Before you play: age and identity checks, a prompt to set a financial limit before the first deposit, and no credit cards.

Live baccarat vs RNG and First Person baccarat

RNG baccarat uses software to shuffle and deal, normally reshuffling for every hand, and plays at your own pace within the 5-second rule. Evolution's First Person range, which includes a First Person Lightning Baccarat, looks like a studio game with 3D animation, but every card is decided by RNG. Live tables use a physical shoe and a set round timer.

The rules are the same, so a standard live table and a standard RNG game carry the same house edge. The real differences are pace, minimum stakes and atmosphere. Our live casino vs RNG games comparison covers this across all games.

Keeping a live baccarat session under control

Live baccarat is calm on screen but quick in practice, especially on speed tables. A few habits help it stay entertainment:

  • Decide the session budget and length before you open the lobby, and stop when either runs out.
  • Stick mainly to Banker or Player; tie and side bets multiply the hourly cost.
  • Ignore scoreboards and road maps when choosing bets. They record the past and don't predict the next hand; see our baccarat strategy page.
  • Use reality checks and time-outs if you lose track of time.

If gambling is causing worry, the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 is free and open 24/7, and GamCare (opens in a new tab) offers chat support too.

Frequently asked questions

Is live baccarat fair in the UK?

Live baccarat at UK-licensed casinos is dealt from a real shoe under Gambling Commission rules, and studios supplying British players must be licensed. The odds are the same as the classic game: 1.06% on Banker and 1.24% on Player with eight decks. Fair doesn't mean even, though; the house edge still means losses are likely over time. Our page on how live casino works explains the set-up, and the baccarat house edge page covers the maths.

How fast is live baccarat?

Evolution's standard live Baccarat takes about 48 seconds a round, which is about 75 rounds an hour. Its Speed Baccarat deals cards face up and takes about 27 seconds, or roughly 133 rounds an hour. Squeeze tables are slower. UK rules require at least 5 seconds per game cycle for non-slot casino games. Faster tables raise the hourly cost at the same stake, as our Speed Baccarat and speed games pages explain.

What is the best bet in live baccarat?

The Banker bet has the lowest house edge, at 1.06% with eight decks, even after the 5% commission. Player is close behind at 1.24%. The tie costs 14.36% at 8 to 1 or 4.84% at 9 to 1, and most side bets cost more still. On a no-commission table the Banker edge rises to about 1.46%. Our page on whether to always bet on the banker looks at this in detail, as does the Banker bet guide.

Can I use autoplay at live baccarat tables?

No. The Gambling Commission banned autoplay for all online casino games from 17 January 2025 and said there was no convincing reason to exclude live casino. You can still use a re-bet button to repeat your last stake, because the Commission doesn't count that as autoplay. Each bet must still be placed by you during the betting window. More detail is on our autoplay ban page and the UK live casino rules guide.

Do slot stake limits apply to live baccarat?

No. The £5 per spin limit for players aged 25 and over, and £2 for those aged 18 to 24, apply to online slots only. Live baccarat tables set their own minimum and maximum stakes, which you can see in the lobby or the table's help screen. Some VIP tables, such as Evolution's Salon Privé, need a minimum bankroll. See live casino limits and slot stake limits for the difference.

What is the difference between live and online baccarat?

Live baccarat uses a real dealer and a physical shoe streamed from a studio, while online RNG baccarat uses software that normally reshuffles for every hand. The rules and house edge are the same for standard versions. Live tables have fixed betting timers and often higher minimum stakes; RNG games let you set the pace within the 5-second rule. Our live vs RNG page compares them, and punto banco explains the rules both follow.

Is Lightning Baccarat better value than standard live baccarat?

We can't say from published figures, because Evolution's public page gives no RTP for Lightning Baccarat. It adds a 20% Lightning Fee to your total bet each round and draws one to five Lightning Cards with 2x to 8x multipliers. The fee is paid win or lose, so compare the RTP in the game's help screen with the 1.06% Banker edge of a standard table. Our Lightning Baccarat page and lightning games guide explain the format.

Can I play live baccarat on my phone?

Yes. Live baccarat streams work on mobile browsers and in casino apps, and Pragmatic Play says its live games run in HTML5 on desktop and mobile. The app listings for Coral, Casumo and 10bet all mention live casino, but check each lobby for baccarat tables. A steady connection matters because betting windows are short. Our guide to live casino on mobile covers the basics, and Speed Baccarat explains the quickest format.
