Ice Fishing (Evolution)

Ice Fishing is Evolution's arctic-themed speed game show: a 53-section money wheel where each spin either pays an instant prize or sends backers into one of three fishing bonuses, Lil' Blues, Big Oranges or Huge Reds. Evolution quotes up to 5,000x. Below we cover the wheel, the bonuses, the odds and what a quicker game does to your spend.

Key takeaways

  • Evolution launched Ice Fishing on 6 August 2025, after a first showing at ICE Barcelona in January 2025.
  • The wheel has 53 sections; one section lands 1 time in 53 (about 1.89%).
  • Bonus caps rise by colour: Lil' Blues up to 100x, Big Oranges up to 200x, Huge Reds up to 500x.
  • Multiplier boosts from the main game carry into bonuses, which is how Evolution's 5,000x top figure is reached.
  • Faster rounds mean more bets an hour, so the same edge costs more per hour.

Ice Fishing (Evolution) in a nutshell

Ice Fishing is a money-wheel game show from Evolution with a frozen-lake theme. You bet on where the big wheel will stop. Some sections pay an instant cash prize; others trigger one of three bonus rounds in which you 'catch' fish carrying multipliers. Evolution's own label for it is a speed game show, and the pace is the main thing that sets it apart from older live game shows.

Evolution's launch news (opens in a new tab) dates the release to 6 August 2025. The game was first shown at ICE Barcelona, held from 20 to 22 January 2025, where Evolution presented it alongside more than 110 new titles, as its ICE Barcelona announcement (opens in a new tab) sets out.

The Ice Fishing wheel: 53 sections and what they do

Every round starts on the wheel. Evolution describes 53 sections, and each spin ends in one of two ways: an instant prize for players backing that section, or entry into a bonus for players backing it. Multiplier boosts can also land in the main game and carry through into a bonus round.

The gaps matter. Without the section counts and payouts, nobody outside the game can calculate Ice Fishing's return, so the in-game paytable and help screen are the only reliable sources. Read them before you place a bet, and treat any figure you see elsewhere with caution unless it comes from Evolution or the casino.

Ice Fishing odds from the 53-section wheel

Even without the full layout, the size of the wheel tells you a lot. With 53 equal sections, one particular section comes up 1 time in 53 on average, which is about 1.89% of spins. A bet type that appears on more sections wins proportionally more often.

Chance per spin by number of sections covered (53-section wheel)
Sections coveredChance per spinAbout 1 inFair payout with no edge
11.89%5352 to 1
35.66%17.716.7 to 1
59.43%10.69.6 to 1
1018.87%5.34.3 to 1
2037.74%2.651.65 to 1

The fair-payout column is (53 ÷ sections) − 1. Any real payout below that is the house edge on that bet. The section counts here are examples to show the method, not Ice Fishing's actual layout. One quirk worth knowing: 53 is a prime number, so section shares don't divide into neat fractions the way they do on a 54-segment wheel such as Dream Catcher's.

Streaks follow from the same numbers. The chance that one particular section doesn't appear in 53 spins is (52 ÷ 53) to the power 53, about 36.4%, and over 100 spins it is still about 14.9%. Long gaps are normal on a wheel like this, and no gap makes a section more likely next time, as our gambler's fallacy page explains.

Ice Fishing bonus modes: Lil' Blues, Big Oranges and Huge Reds

The three bonuses are graded by colour and cap. Evolution says each has its own style of play but doesn't publish the detailed mechanics on its launch page, so the in-game help is the place to read exactly how fish, multipliers and catches work.

Ice Fishing bonus caps (Evolution's figures)
Bonus modeCap before main-game boostsTimes larger than Lil' Blues cap
Lil' BluesUp to 100x1x
Big OrangesUp to 200x2x
Huge RedsUp to 500x5x
Overall top figureUp to 5,000x50x

The arithmetic is revealing. The highest bonus cap is 500x, yet the overall headline is 5,000x, ten times higher. Evolution says multiplier boosts can land during the main game and carry into the bonuses, so the very top results need a boost and a top catch to happen together. Evolution doesn't publish how often boosts land or what sizes they take, which is why the 5,000x figure is a ceiling rather than a guide to normal play.

As with other shows, expect bonus entry to require a bet on the matching section when the wheel lands there. Check the help screen for the exact rule in Ice Fishing.

Why a speed game show costs more per hour

Evolution's product chief said at the premiere that the studio had wanted to make a speed game show for a long time. Faster rounds feel lively, but they change your costs in a simple way: average loss per hour = stake × house edge × rounds per hour. Double the rounds and you double the average hourly cost, even if nothing else changes.

£1 a round at an illustrative 4% edge: cost by pace
Rounds an hourTotal stakedAverage cost an hour
30£30£1.20
60£60£2.40
90£90£3.60
120£120£4.80

The 4% figure is only for illustration; swap in the edge from the help screen. The point is the shape: a quick game can cost three or four times as much per hour as a slow one with the same edge. Our cost per hour guide compares common games on this basis, and speed live casino games covers other fast formats.

How to play Ice Fishing: a quick walkthrough

  1. Find Ice Fishing in a UK-licensed casino's live game show lobby and check the stake range.
  2. Open the help screen and read the paytable, the section layout, the bonus rules and the return for each bet.
  3. Choose a chip size that fits a budget you have set in advance.
  4. Place chips on the sections you want to back before the short betting window closes.
  5. Watch for main-game multiplier boosts, then see where the wheel stops.
  6. If the wheel lands on a bonus you backed, play through the fishing round and collect the multiplier you catch.

Ice Fishing RTP: what we can and can't say

Evolution's announcements don't give Ice Fishing's RTP, and we haven't verified a figure, so we won't print one. Look in the game's help screen, where UK-licensed games set out their rules and returns. For context, Evolution publishes 94.41% to 96.08% for Crazy Time, depending on the bet, which shows how much returns can vary between bets on a single show.

Whatever the figure turns out to be, RTP is a long-run average. A short session on a 5,000x game can land anywhere, and most sessions on high-volatility games end below the average because the average is pulled up by rare big wins. Our page on variance and standard deviation explains why.

Ice Fishing myths: what doesn't help

  • Waiting for a bonus that hasn't landed for a while. Sections have no memory; each spin starts fresh.
  • Increasing stakes to catch up. Chasing losses in a fast game burns through a budget quickly. Stop instead; the next round is no more likely to pay.
  • Backing only the Huge Reds because it has the biggest cap. A bigger cap usually means fewer appearances. Check how many sections each bonus has before deciding.
  • Assuming the theme changes the maths. The fish, colours and studio are presentation; the paytable and section counts decide the return.

Ice Fishing and UK gambling rules

Ice Fishing is a casino game, not an online slot, so the £5 and £2 slot stake limits don't apply to it. The Gambling Commission's 2025 game design rules (opens in a new tab) do: non-slot casino games must allow at least 5 seconds from the start of one game cycle to the next, autoplay is banned, you can't play several games at once, and your net spend and time spent must be shown in real time. Even a speed show has to respect that 5-second floor.

You must be 18 or over and verified before depositing, and credit cards can't be used. If you want a break, a time-out or self-exclusion through GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) blocks access to every GB-licensed gambling site at once. The National Gambling Helpline, 0808 8020 133, is free and open 24 hours a day. Read more in UK rules for live casino and our safer gambling hub.

Frequently asked questions

When did Ice Fishing come out?

Evolution launched Ice Fishing on 6 August 2025. It had first been shown at ICE Barcelona, the trade show held from 20 to 22 January 2025, where Evolution presented it among more than 110 new live, RNG and slot titles for the year. That puts it among Evolution's newest shows, alongside Lightning Storm from 2024. Our Evolution provider page covers the studio's wider range.

How many sections are on the Ice Fishing wheel?

The Ice Fishing wheel has 53 sections, according to Evolution's launch announcement. A single section therefore lands 1 time in 53, about 1.89% of spins. Evolution doesn't publish how many sections carry each prize or bonus, so check the paytable in the game to work out the chance for the bet you want. Our probability basics page explains the method, and money wheel games compares wheel sizes.

What is the maximum win on Ice Fishing?

Evolution says Ice Fishing offers up to 5,000x win potential. The bonus caps are lower on their own: up to 100x in Lil' Blues, 200x in Big Oranges and 500x in Huge Reds. The bigger headline figure depends on multiplier boosts from the main game carrying into a bonus. Evolution doesn't publish how often that happens, so treat 5,000x as a ceiling. See our volatility guide and game show RTP comparison.

What is the RTP of Ice Fishing?

Evolution hasn't published Ice Fishing's RTP in its announcements, and we haven't verified one, so check the help screen inside the game before you play. Returns on game shows often differ by bet, so look at each one. Remember that RTP is a long-run average and short sessions can differ widely. Our RTP explained page and the house edge guide show how to turn the figure into an expected cost.

What are the Ice Fishing bonus games?

Ice Fishing has three bonus modes graded by colour: Lil' Blues with wins up to 100x, Big Oranges up to 200x and Huge Reds up to 500x. Each has its own style of play, and multiplier boosts from the main game can carry into them. Evolution's launch page doesn't describe each bonus in detail, so read the in-game rules. For how bonus rounds work across shows, read how live game shows work and our Crazy Time guide.

Why is Ice Fishing called a speed game show?

Evolution calls Ice Fishing a speed game show because rounds are designed to move quickly compared with longer shows. Faster rounds mean more bets an hour, so at the same stake and edge your average hourly cost rises in proportion. UK rules still require at least 5 seconds per game cycle for non-slot casino games. Our speed live casino games page and cost per hour guide explain the effect.

Is there an Ice Fishing strategy?

There is no Ice Fishing strategy that beats the house edge, because each spin is independent and every bet pays less than its true odds. Sensible choices are to read the help screen, back bets with the better published return, set a fixed stake, and use time and deposit limits. Avoid chasing losses, which is especially costly in a fast game. Our live game show strategy and independent events pages explain more.
