Lightning Dice (Evolution) live

Lightning Dice (Evolution) is a live dice show where three dice tumble through a transparent Lightning Tower and you bet on the total, from 3 to 18. Before each drop, two to four bet spots are struck with multipliers of up to 1,000x. The base odds are pure arithmetic: three dice give 216 equally likely results, and a total of 10 or 11 comes up 27 times in 216.

Key takeaways

  • Three dice drop through a three-section Lightning Tower; you bet on totals 3 to 18, Low, High, Any Double or Any Triple.
  • Two to four bet spots get Lightning multipliers each round, worth up to 1,000x.
  • Totals of 10 and 11 are the most likely (12.50% each); 3 and 18 the least (0.46% each).
  • Our checked data has no RTP or base paytable for Lightning Dice, so read the help screen before betting.
  • In Evolution's Lightning games, multipliers are usually paid for through lower base payouts or a fee.

Lightning Dice: a dice game staged as a live show

Lightning Dice is part of Evolution's Lightning family, the range that includes Lightning Roulette (launched in 2018) and adds random multipliers to a familiar game. Here the familiar game is a three-dice total, close to the totals section of sic bo, presented by a host in a studio with lighting effects and close-up cameras.

This page looks at Lightning Dice as a show among Evolution's live game shows: how a round is staged, what the multipliers do and the exact chance of each total. For a table-game view of the bets, see our Lightning Dice game guide, and for a quick verdict read is Lightning Dice worth playing.

The Lightning Tower and how a round is staged

The centrepiece is the Lightning Tower, a transparent column split into three sections. After betting closes, Evolution's Lightning Dice page (opens in a new tab) explains, two to four bet spots are struck by Lightning multipliers. The host then places the dice at the top of the tower and pulls a lever, and the dice bounce down through the maze while cameras follow them.

When the dice settle at the base, the total is read and bets are settled. A winning bet on a spot that was struck by Lightning is paid with the multiplier added. Because the dice fall through a physical maze, there is nothing to time or influence: each die lands on any of its six faces with equal chance.

Lightning Dice bets explained

You can back the exact total of the three dice, anywhere from 3 to 18, or choose the broader Low, High, Any Double or Any Triple bets. Evolution lets you place as many bets as you like in a round. The help screen defines which totals count as Low and High and whether a triple counts towards Any Double, and it lists the payout for each spot.

Lightning Dice odds for every total

Each die has six faces, so three dice give 6 × 6 × 6 = 216 equally likely outcomes. Counting the ways to make each total gives its exact probability. Middle totals have many routes (10 can be 1-3-6, 2-4-4, 3-3-4 and more in every order) while 3 needs 1-1-1 and nothing else.

1811/216 (0.46%)216

The table is symmetrical: 3 and 18 match, 4 and 17 match, and so on. The two most likely totals, 10 and 11, each land 12.50% of the time; the extremes land about once in 216 rounds. That spread is why extreme totals pay far more than middle ones. Our page on dice probability shows the counting in more detail.

Odds of Any Triple and Any Double

The two pattern bets follow from the same 216 outcomes. Six of them are triples (1-1-1 up to 6-6-6). Exactly-two-matching results number 90: six choices for the pair, five for the odd die and three positions for it.

Whether Any Double wins on a triple changes its chance from 41.67% to 44.44%, which is why the help screen definition matters. The same counting appears in our sic bo house edge guide.

Lightning multipliers in Lightning Dice and its sister games

Two to four spots are struck each round, with Lightning multipliers of up to 1,000x. Evolution's page does not list the individual values or say how often each appears, and it does not say how the multiplier combines with the base payout. Here is how the Lightning idea works across Evolution's range, from its published rules.

How Evolution's Lightning-style games add multipliers
GameWhat gets struckMultiplier rangeHow it is paid for
Lightning Dice2 to 4 bet spotsUp to 1,000xCheck the help screen
Lightning Roulette1 to 5 Lucky Numbers50x to 500xStraight-up pays 29:1, not 35:1
XXXtreme Lightning RouletteUp to 10 lucky spotsUp to 2,000xCheck the help screen
Lightning Baccarat1 to 5 Lightning Cards2x to 8x20% Lightning fee
Super Sic BoZero or several bet spotsUp to 1,000xCheck the help screen

The pattern is clear: multipliers are not added on top of a standard game for free. In Lightning Roulette, the Evolution rules (opens in a new tab) cut the unboosted straight-up payout from 35:1 to 29:1, so a plain win returns 30 units instead of 36. To see how Lightning Dice is balanced, compare its paytable with standard sic bo totals before you play.

Lightning Dice RTP and paytable: how to read them

Our checked data does not include Lightning Dice's RTP or base paytable, so we won't quote either. UK-licensed casinos must make the likelihood of winning available, so open the help screen in your casino's version for both.

Once you have the paytable, you can see what the base game returns. Return equals probability multiplied by (payout plus 1). For comparison, Wizard of Odds' sic bo tables (opens in a new tab) show a standard sic bo bet on 10 or 11 paying 6 to 1: with a 27/216 chance, that returns 12.5% × 7 = 87.5% before any multiplier, a 12.50% house edge. In Lightning Dice the multipliers add to that base return, and the game's published RTP tells you the overall result.

If the help screen gives an RTP, the cost is simple: house edge is 100% minus RTP, and expected loss is total stake times the edge. See our RTP explained guide.

Spreading bets in Lightning Dice: what it costs

Because exactly one total wins each round, covering all 16 totals means something always wins. That can feel safe, but it puts 16 stakes through the game every round and so multiplies the average loss by 16 compared with one bet. Every percentage point of house edge on £800 staked costs £8.

Stake through the game over 50 rounds
ApproachStake per roundTotal over 50 roundsCost per 1% of house edge
£1 on one total£1£5050p
£1 on 10 and 11£2£100£1
£1 on all 16 totals£16£800£8

The bottom row is the costliest way to watch 50 rounds, even though it never has a round without a winner. Read more on expected value and why no betting system changes the long-run result.

How to play Lightning Dice live

  1. Finish age and identity checks at a UK-licensed casino, set a deposit limit and open Lightning Dice from the live lobby.
  2. Read the help screen for the paytable, the Low and High ranges and the RTP.
  3. Place chips on one or more totals or on Low, High, Any Double or Any Triple while betting is open.
  4. Watch two to four spots light up with multipliers after betting closes.
  5. The host drops the dice through the Lightning Tower; the total at the base settles all bets.
  6. Check your balance and session time on screen before the next round.

Lightning Dice myths and the facts

  • "Back the spots that were struck last round." Multipliers are chosen at random each round; past choices predict nothing.
  • "Extreme totals are overdue." A 3 or 18 is always a 1 in 216 chance, however long since the last one.
  • "The tower can be read." The maze exists to randomise the dice; each face is equally likely.
  • "A 1,000x multiplier makes the game good value." Value depends on the overall RTP, which already includes the multipliers.

Lightning Dice and UK gambling rules

Lightning Dice is a live casino game, so the online slot stake limits of £5 (or £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds) do not apply to it; your casino's table limits do. From 17 January 2025 autoplay was banned on all online casino games, live dice included, and non-slot games must allow at least 5 seconds per game cycle. You cannot play several games at once, and net spend and time played are displayed throughout. See our game design rules guide.

Credit cards can't be used to gamble in Great Britain, and winnings are not taxed for UK players. If you want a break, GAMSTOP's self-exclusion scheme (opens in a new tab) covers every UK-licensed site for six months to five years.

Frequently asked questions

How does Lightning Dice work?

Lightning Dice is a live dice game where three dice fall through a transparent Lightning Tower and you bet on the total, from 3 to 18, or on Low, High, Any Double or Any Triple. After betting closes, two to four bet spots are struck with multipliers of up to 1,000x, which boost wins on those spots. Results are settled when the dice land. Our Lightning Dice game guide covers the bets from a table-game angle.

What are the odds of each total in Lightning Dice?

The odds come from the 216 equally likely results of three dice. Totals of 10 and 11 are the most likely at 27/216 (12.50%) each, followed by 9 and 12 at 25/216. The least likely are 3 and 18, at 1/216 (0.46%) each, and 4 and 17 at 3/216. These odds never change from round to round. Our dice probability guide explains how to count them.

What is the RTP of Lightning Dice?

Our checked data does not include an RTP for Lightning Dice, so check the help screen in your casino's version before you play. UK-licensed operators must make the likelihood of winning available. Once you have the figure, the house edge is 100% minus the RTP, and expected loss equals total stake times that edge. Our game show RTP comparison lists the figures that are published for other shows.

What is the maximum multiplier in Lightning Dice?

Evolution says Lightning multipliers in Lightning Dice can reach up to 1,000x, with two to four bet spots struck each round. It does not publish the individual multiplier values, how often they appear or how they combine with the base payout, so the help screen is the place to check. Casinos also set maximum payout limits. Our lightning multiplier glossary entry explains the mechanic across Evolution games.

Is Lightning Dice the same as sic bo?

No, though both use three dice. Sic bo offers many more bets, including specific triples, doubles and two-dice combinations, with house edges from 2.78% to 33.33% depending on the bet and paytable. Lightning Dice focuses on totals plus Low, High, Any Double and Any Triple, and adds random multipliers. Evolution's Super Sic Bo is the version that keeps the full sic bo layout with multipliers. See our sic bo guide.

Is there a Lightning Dice strategy?

No strategy changes the odds, because every total has a fixed chance and the multipliers are chosen at random each round. What you can control is your stake, how many spots you cover and when you stop. Covering all 16 totals guarantees a winning bet each round but puts 16 stakes through the game, raising your average loss. Our live casino strategy page covers sensible budgeting.

Why are the payouts lower in Lightning games?

Lightning games fund their random multipliers by trimming something else, usually the base payout or a fee. In Lightning Roulette, for example, an unboosted straight-up bet pays 29:1 instead of the standard 35:1, and Lightning Baccarat charges a 20% Lightning fee. Lightning Dice's base paytable is not in our checked data, so compare its help screen with standard sic bo totals. Read our Lightning games guide for the full family.

Can I use a bonus on Lightning Dice?

Only if the bonus terms allow live games, and many UK offers don't. Free spins offers apply to named slots, and matched bonuses list which games count towards wagering, with live games often excluded or weighted lower. Since 19 January 2026 wagering cannot exceed 10x the bonus. Always read the full terms before you play. Our answer to can I use a bonus on live casino explains more.
