Casino apps in the UK

Casino apps in the UK are downloadable versions of licensed online casinos, available on the App Store and Google Play to adults who have passed age checks. They run the same games, under the same licence and rules, as the casino's website. What differs between apps is device support, size, privacy settings and convenience features.

Key takeaways

  • All five of our partners publish casino apps on both the App Store and Google Play, rated 18+ or PEGI 18.
  • Coral and Ladbrokes need iOS 18 or later; PlayOJO and Casumo run on iOS 15 or later; 10bet needs iOS 16.
  • Casumo's and 10bet's apps combine casino and sports betting; Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO have casino-only apps.
  • UK rules such as slot stake limits and the autoplay ban apply inside apps exactly as on the website.
  • Download only from the official stores and check the seller matches the licence holder.

Casino apps UK: what changes and what stays the same

A casino app is a front door, not a different casino. When you log in through an app you reach the same account, balance, games and settings as on the website, and the same Gambling Commission licence covers both. The game maths doesn't change either: a European roulette straight-up bet still wins 1 time in 37 and pays 35 to 1, giving the house 2.70%, whether you tap or click.

What an app can change is how quickly you get in and how the screen is laid out. Some apps add face or fingerprint log-in, quick deposit buttons or a shortcut to recently played games. Those conveniences are worth weighing alongside the downsides: an app takes storage space, needs updates and makes the casino one tap away at all times. For browser-based play on a phone, see our separate guide to mobile casinos in the UK, and for more practical explainers browse our online casino guides.

UK casino apps for iPhone and iPad compared

The App Store listings for our five partners show clear differences in device support and size. All are rated 18+, and all list the Casino category except 10bet, whose combined app sits under Sports.

If your iPhone can't run iOS 18, neither Entain casino app (Coral or Ladbrokes) will install, but you can still play in Safari on the mobile site. PlayOJO's listing (seller: Skill On Net Ltd) is the lightest download of the five. Each brand has its own page with more detail: the Coral casino app, PlayOJO app, Ladbrokes casino app, Casumo app and 10bet app.

Android casino apps on Google Play

Real-money casino apps from licensed operators are available on Google Play in the UK. Every partner listing carries a PEGI 18 rating. Google Play no longer shows a minimum Android version on the web listing, so check compatibility on your own device when you open the store page.

Names can differ slightly between stores. Ladbrokes, for instance, is Games & Slots on iOS and Slots & Games on Android. That's normal, but it's one reason to reach the listing from the casino's own website rather than a search, which can surface lookalikes. You can open the Ladbrokes casino app on Google Play (opens in a new tab) or PlayOJO on the App Store (opens in a new tab) to see a listing for yourself.

Features listed in UK casino app descriptions

Store descriptions are written by the operators, so treat them as claims rather than independent findings. Even so, they show what each app emphasises.

  • Casumo: Face ID and Touch ID log-in, Quick Launch of the last four slots played, Apple Pay and Quick Deposit, a home-screen widget, a haptic feedback switch and Reel Races updates.
  • Coral: slots including Megaways and classic fruit machines, blackjack, roulette and live casino, free-to-play games with real-money prizes, and its Smart Rewards and Coral Coins promotions.
  • Ladbrokes: slots, blackjack, roulette, live casino including game shows, free-to-play games such as a daily prize wheel, and its LadBucks reward currency.
  • PlayOJO: slots, jackpot slots, bingo, table games and live casino, OJOplus money back, and safer-gambling tools named Safe Mate, Take A Break and Deposit Limits.
  • 10bet: sports betting plus slots and live casino tables, with deposit limits, breaks and self-exclusion in account settings.

Only Casumo's iOS listing mentions face or fingerprint log-in; the others don't say either way, and none of the five listings mentions push notifications. If those matter to you, check the app's settings after installing. Which games a casino carries changes over time, so check the casino's game lobby rather than relying on a listing.

Privacy labels and location permissions in casino apps

Apple's privacy labels and Google's data safety sections show what each app says it collects. They vary more than you might expect. Coral's iOS label lists coarse location as data linked to you; Ladbrokes lists precise location as data not linked to you; and PlayOJO's iOS listing warns that the app may use your location even when it isn't open, which can reduce battery life. On Google Play, Casumo says its app may share location data and 10bet says its app may collect it.

You stay in control of these permissions. On iPhone, Settings lets you set an app's location access to Never, Ask Next Time, While Using or Always; Android has similar options under app permissions. If an app stops working without location, its help pages should explain why. Our online casino security guide covers passwords, two-step log-in and phishing messages that pretend to come from casinos.

UK gambling rules inside casino apps

An app doesn't get any special treatment. Every rule that applies on the website applies in the app, including:

  • Slot stake limits: £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds; see online slot stake limits.
  • No autoplay: banned for slots since 31 October 2021 and for all online casino games, live casino included, since 17 January 2025. A re-bet button isn't autoplay; see the autoplay ban.
  • Minimum game speed: at least 2.5 seconds per slot spin and 5 seconds per game cycle for other casino games, with no turbo or slam-stop.
  • One game at a time: no playing several games at once.
  • Running totals: net spend and time played shown in real time during a session.
  • No feature buys: since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players.

The speed rules matter more on a phone than you might think, because an app is always in your pocket. At the 2.5-second minimum, a slot could run at most 1,440 spins an hour (3,600 seconds ÷ 2.5). Even at 10p a spin, that's £144 staked in an hour. Our page on online game design rules explains the full set.

How to download a UK casino app safely

  1. Check that the casino holds an Active Gambling Commission licence before downloading anything.
  2. Open the casino's own website on your phone and follow its link to the App Store or Google Play.
  3. On the listing, confirm the seller or developer matches the licence holder or its group (for example, LC International Limited for Coral).
  4. Check the age rating shows 18+ or PEGI 18 and that the listing is on the UK store.
  5. Install the app, then log in with your existing account or register if you're new.
  6. Review location, notification and tracking permissions in your phone's settings.
  7. Set or confirm your deposit limit and reality-check reminders before your first session in the app.

Never install a casino app from a file sent by email, message or an unfamiliar website. Licensed operators publish through the official stores, and a sideloaded file could be anything.

If you play occasionally, the browser is usually enough. If you play regularly and value quick log-in, an app may be more convenient, provided you're comfortable with it sitting on your home screen. Our head-to-head on casino app versus mobile site goes into more detail, and live casino on mobile covers streaming tables on a phone.

Paying and withdrawing in casino apps

Apps use the same cashier as the website, so the same methods, limits and withdrawal times apply. Mobile wallets are the main difference in convenience. Both Entain brands, Coral and Ladbrokes, list Apple Pay and Google Pay, with a published £5 minimum deposit for Google Pay, and Casumo's app highlights Apple Pay and Quick Deposit. With Apple Pay you confirm payments with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, and Apple says it doesn't store your original card number.

Apple Pay and Google Pay pay from the card stored behind them. Credit cards can't be used to gamble in Great Britain, so make sure the card in your wallet is a debit card; our page on the credit card ban explains the rule. More on each wallet is in our guides to Apple Pay casinos and Google Pay casinos.

Safer-gambling settings in casino apps

Every app must give you the same tools as the website: deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and self-exclusion. A limit set in the app applies to the whole account, and the reverse is also true. Because a phone goes everywhere with you, it's worth turning on reality checks so the app reminds you how long you've been playing.

If you want to remove the temptation entirely, deleting the app is a quick first step. GAMSTOP blocks you from every UK-licensed site and app for between six months and five years, and gambling blocking software can stop gambling sites and apps loading on your devices. The National Gambling Helpline, 0808 8020 133, is free and open 24/7.

Frequently asked questions

Are casino apps legal in the UK?

Yes, real-money casino apps are legal in Great Britain when the operator holds a Gambling Commission licence. Apple and Google both list licensed UK casino apps, rated 18+ on the App Store and PEGI 18 on Google Play. The app must follow every UK rule, from age verification to slot stake limits. Before downloading, confirm the operator's licence using our guide on how to check a casino licence.

Which UK casino apps work on older iPhones?

Among our partners, PlayOJO and Casumo have the lowest requirement, iOS 15.0 or later, followed by 10bet at iOS 16.0. Coral and Ladbrokes both need iOS 18.0 or later, according to their App Store listings in October 2026. If your phone can't run the required version, you can usually still play on the casino's mobile website in Safari. See our guide to mobile casinos in the UK for browser play.

Is it safer to play in a casino app or on the website?

Neither is safer in terms of fairness, because the same licence, games and rules apply to both. The main security difference is how you log in and where you download from. An app from the official store with face or fingerprint log-in can be convenient, while a browser leaves nothing installed. Always use a unique password either way. Our online casino security guide covers account protection in more detail.

Do casino apps pay out real money?

Yes, a licensed real-money casino app uses your normal account, so winnings go to the same balance and are withdrawn through the same cashier and methods as on the website. Withdrawal times depend on the casino and the method, not on whether you used the app. Don't confuse real-money apps with social casino apps that only use virtual coins. Our guide on how to withdraw from an online casino explains the process.

Can I use a bonus in a casino app?

Usually yes, because a bonus belongs to your account rather than to the device. Welcome offers have the same terms in the app and on the website, including eligible games, payment exclusions and expiry. Our partners' current offers are slot offers, and table or live games are often excluded or count for less towards any wagering. Check the terms in the app's promotions section. Our welcome bonus guide explains what to look for.

Why does a casino app ask for my location?

Some casino apps request location access, and their store listings say how the data is used. PlayOJO's iOS listing, for example, says the app may use your location even when it isn't open, and several Android listings say the apps may collect or share location data. You can change location permissions at any time in your phone's settings. If you're unsure why an app needs it, ask the casino's support. Our app versus mobile site comparison looks at the practical trade-offs.

Do UK slot stake limits apply in casino apps?

Yes, the online slot stake limits apply in apps exactly as on websites: £5 a spin if you're 25 or over and £2 if you're 18 to 24. They cover reel-based slots only, not table or live casino games. The app knows which limit to apply from the date of birth you gave at sign-up. Our answer to what is the maximum stake on a UK slot explains how a game cycle is counted.

How do I stop using a casino app?

Deleting the app is the quickest step, but your account stays open, so pair it with a time-out or self-exclusion in your account settings. For a break from every UK-licensed site and app at once, register with GAMSTOP for six months to five years. Blocking software and bank gambling blocks add further barriers. The National Gambling Helpline, 0808 8020 133, can help you choose. See our page on how to self-exclude.
