First person casino games

First person casino games are Evolution's software versions of its live tables and game shows: the same look and bets, but every card, spin and dice roll is decided by a random number generator and shown in 3D animation, with no dealer or stream. A Go Live button then takes you to the streamed table. Here is what that means for odds, speed and play.

Key takeaways

  • First Person games are RNG games, not live: no camera, no croupier, no studio.
  • The Go Live button moves you from the animated version to the live version of the same game.
  • Titles include Lightning Roulette, XXXtreme Lightning Roulette, Lightning Blackjack, Lightning Baccarat, Mega Ball, Dream Catcher, Craps, Blackjack and Deal or No Deal.
  • Check each game's help screen for its RTP: an RNG copy is not automatically identical to the live paytable.
  • Because you set the pace, First Person play can cost more per hour than the live table it copies.

What first person casino games are

Evolution built its name on streamed tables, and its First Person range takes those same games and rebuilds them as software. Evolution's own description is plain: First Person games are RNG games with 3D animation, and card deals, wheel spins and dice results are all decided by a random number generator. There is no croupier waiting for you, no betting timer set by a studio and no video stream to buffer.

The point is familiarity. If you like the look of Lightning Roulette or Dream Catcher but want to learn the bets quietly, or play at a time when you do not want a live presenter talking, the First Person version keeps the table design, the bet layout and the bonus features. When you are ready, a Go Live button moves you straight to the live version of the same game. You can read Evolution's summary on its First Person games page (opens in a new tab).

First Person games are sometimes grouped under live casino in casino lobbies because they share the branding. They are RNG products. If you specifically want a real dealer, check for the live stream before you bet.

Which first person casino games exist

Evolution lists these titles in its First Person range. Each sits alongside a live original, which is why the names will be familiar from the live casino lobby.

First person vs live: how the result is made

In a live game the result comes from physical equipment. In First Person, a random number generator produces it, and the animation shows you a wheel or a dealer's hands acting it out. The animation is presentation; the outcome was fixed the moment the RNG produced its number.

At UK-licensed casinos that RNG must meet Gambling Commission standard RTS 7. Results must be acceptably random, compensated games that steer outcomes towards a payout target are banned, and a simulated device's theoretical probabilities should match those of the real device it imitates. In practice that means a First Person roulette wheel must behave like a fair 37-pocket wheel, and a First Person money wheel like the physical wheel it copies. The full text is on the Gambling Commission's RTS 7 page (opens in a new tab).

First person casino games odds and RTP

The safest rule is to read each First Person game's help screen for its RTP. Evolution's public pages do not publish RTPs for most of these games, and an RNG version can use its own paytable. Where figures are published, they look like this.

First Person Lightning Roulette

Evolution's First Person page says a straight-up bet 'pays 30x', which is a total return of 30 units: 29 to 1 plus your stake, the same base payout as the live game. One to five Lucky Numbers each round carry multipliers of 50x to 500x. A UK operator's game page lists the RTP as 97.10% to 97.30%, so the lightning payouts roughly make up for the cut in the base straight-up payout. Without any multiplier, a straight-up bet would return 30/37, or 81.08%, so about 16 percentage points of the RTP rely on the occasional boosted number. See Evolution's First Person Lightning Roulette page (opens in a new tab) for the rules.

First Person XXXtreme Lightning Roulette

A UK operator page lists the First Person XXXtreme version at a 97.30% RTP with a minimum stake of 0.20. The live game adds Chain Lightning, with up to ten lucky spots a round, and Double Strike multipliers of up to 2,000x. Check the RNG version's help screen for its exact base payout, because we have not found it published.

Lightning Blackjack and Lightning Baccarat

The live Lightning Blackjack adds a 100% Lightning fee to every initial bet, so a £5 hand costs £10, and Evolution claims a 0.44% house edge only with an optimal strategy it does not publish; Wizard of Odds' Lightning Blackjack analysis (opens in a new tab) estimates a basic-strategy player loses 17.63% of the original bet per hand. Live Lightning Baccarat charges a 20% Lightning fee for one to five Lightning Cards worth 2x to 8x. If the First Person version uses the same fees, the same costs apply, so confirm in the help file before you play. Our pages on Lightning Blackjack and Lightning Baccarat work through the numbers.

Dream Catcher, Craps and Mega Ball

The live Dream Catcher wheel has 54 segments, and Wizard of Odds' money wheel analysis (opens in a new tab) gives house edges from 3.42% on the 10 to 9.19% on the 40. A First Person wheel built to the same segments should give the same figures. For craps, the Pass line has a 1.41% house edge and Any Seven 16.67%, a reminder that the bet you pick matters far more than the format. Mega Ball draws 20 of 51 balls and then a Mega Ball multiplier of 5x to 100x; its RTP is not published on Evolution's page, so use the help screen.

Why first person play can cost more per hour

First Person games remove the studio's betting timer, so the only brake on pace is you and the UK rule that a non-slot casino game cycle must last at least 5 seconds. That is a real change from live play, where a roulette round takes around 50 seconds on a standard table.

Take £2 straight-up bets on First Person Lightning Roulette at a 97.30% RTP (a 2.70% edge), which is 5.4p per bet on average. At a live-style 72 rounds an hour that averages £3.89. At a quicker 240 rounds an hour (one every 15 seconds) it averages £12.96. Same game, same edge, more than three times the cost, purely from pace. Our cost per hour guide explains the formula.

How to play first person casino games

  1. Log in to a UK-licensed casino and complete age and identity checks, which are required before you can play, even in demo mode.
  2. Open the casino's live casino or table game lobby and search for 'First Person'.
  3. Open the game's help or info screen and note the RTP, payouts and any fees, such as a Lightning fee.
  4. Choose a chip value and place your bets on the animated table.
  5. Press the deal or spin button yourself; the result appears after the animation, with at least 5 seconds per game cycle.
  6. Use the re-bet button if you want to repeat a bet. There is no autoplay, because it is banned for UK casino games.
  7. Press Go Live if you want to move to the streamed version, and check its rules screen too, because live and RNG paytables can differ.

First person blackjack and card counting

First Person Blackjack and First Person Lightning Blackjack deal from an RNG deck that is reshuffled for every round, as most online RNG blackjack is. That makes card counting useless, because no information carries over from one hand to the next. It also trims the house edge very slightly compared with a shoe game, by about 0.02% in a six-deck game according to Wizard of Odds.

What does matter is decision quality. Following basic strategy on every hand gives you the lowest house edge the rules allow. The animated format is a calm place to practise it, because no timer or other players are rushing you.

Who first person games suit, and who should go live

Advantages

  • Learning a game's layout and features before trying the live table.
  • Players on a weak mobile connection, because there is no video stream.
  • Anyone who finds live chat or presenters distracting.
  • Playing at a time when the live table you want is busy.

Drawbacks

  • Players who specifically want a human dealer and a physical result.
  • Anyone who tends to play faster when there is no timer.
  • Those who expect better odds: the RNG version is not a cheaper copy by default.
  • Players hoping to count cards or read patterns, neither of which works.

If you enjoy the multiplier titles, compare the live versions in our guide to Lightning live casino games before switching.

UK rules for first person casino games

Because First Person games are RNG casino games, all the standard UK online casino rules apply. Since 17 January 2025 autoplay has been banned for all online casino games, non-slot games must allow at least 5 seconds per game cycle, you cannot play several games at once, and the casino must show your net spend and time played in real time. Our game speed rules page covers the 5-second minimum.

UK rules require the casino to verify your age before you can open a free-to-play version of a gambling game. That is why you cannot try First Person games anonymously on a UK site. See age verification at online casinos for the details. The online slot stake limits do not apply here, because these are table and game-show products, not reel-based slots.

First person casino game myths

  • Myth: First Person games are live games with a cartoon filter. Fact: Evolution says the results are decided by RNG.
  • Myth: the RNG version pays less than the live one. Fact: not necessarily; the published Lightning Roulette range is similar, but you should check each game's help screen.
  • Myth: winning in First Person means you are 'warmed up' for the live table. Fact: rounds are independent, and nothing carries across when you press Go Live.
  • Myth: a multiplier is 'due' after a quiet spell. Fact: each round's Lucky Numbers are a fresh random draw, which is the gambler's fallacy at work.

Frequently asked questions

Are first person casino games live?

No. Evolution describes its First Person games as RNG games with 3D animation, so a random number generator decides every card, spin and dice roll. There is no studio stream and no real dealer. The games share names and layouts with Evolution's live tables, and a Go Live button lets you switch to the streamed version. Our live casino vs RNG games guide explains how the two formats differ.

What does the Go Live button do in first person games?

It moves you from the animated RNG version to the live, streamed version of the same game. For example, from First Person Lightning Roulette you can jump to the live Lightning Roulette table with a presenter. Before betting at the live table, open its rules screen, because the betting timer, limits and sometimes the paytable can differ from the RNG copy. See our Lightning Roulette guide for the live game.

Is First Person Lightning Roulette the same RTP as the live game?

The published figures are similar. A UK operator's game page lists First Person Lightning Roulette at 97.10% to 97.30% RTP, the same range operators show for the live game, and Evolution's page gives the same 29 to 1 base straight-up payout (30x total return) with 50x to 500x Lucky Numbers. Evolution itself does not publish the RTP, so check the help screen in the game you open. Our page on whether Lightning Roulette is worth playing looks at the trade-off.

Can you play first person games for free?

Sometimes, in demo mode, but UK rules require the casino to verify your age before you can access free-to-play versions of gambling games. So you will need an account even to try a demo. Demo play is useful for learning layouts and features, but it uses no real money and teaches nothing about future results. Our page on demo mode casino games explains how demos work in the UK.

Can you count cards in First Person Blackjack?

No. First Person Blackjack is an RNG game, and like most online RNG blackjack it shuffles before every round, so no information carries from one hand to the next. Card counting is legal in Britain but has no use here. The tool that genuinely lowers the house edge is basic strategy, which tells you the best play for each hand. Start with our basic strategy guide.

Are first person games rigged?

Not at a UK-licensed casino. Gambling Commission standard RTS 7 requires results to be acceptably random and bans compensated games that adjust results to hit a target. A simulated wheel or deck must have the same theoretical probabilities as the real one. The house edge still applies, so losses are likely over time, but it comes from the published payouts. Read how casino games are tested for the checks involved.

Which first person game has the lowest house edge?

It depends on the bet more than the title. In craps, the Pass line has a 1.41% house edge. Standard blackjack played with basic strategy is usually lower still, though the exact figure depends on the game's rules, so check its help screen. Avoid assuming that the multiplier games are cheaper: Lightning Blackjack's 100% fee makes it costly for basic-strategy players. Our list of games with the lowest house edge compares the options.

Do UK slot stake limits apply to first person games?

No. The £5 per spin limit, and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds, applies only to online slots, which the Gambling Commission defines as reel-based casino games. First Person games are table and game-show products, so their limits are set by the game and the casino. The other January 2025 rules do apply, including the autoplay ban and the 5-second minimum game cycle. See our guide to online slot stake limits.
