Wanted Dead or a Wild and Hacksaw westerns
Wanted Dead or a Wild and Hacksaw western slots start with the studio’s best-known game: a high-volatility 5 × 5 shoot-out paying up to 12,500x the stake. This page covers Wanted, the gunfight-style titles that followed it, the RTP versions that change what you pay, and how Hacksaw’s westerns compare with frontier slots from other studios.
Key takeaways
- The flagship game has a published 96.38% RTP, high volatility, 15 paylines and a 12,500x max win.
- Hacksaw supplies some games at several RTP settings: 2 Wild 2 Die is listed from 96.25% down to 88.25%.
- On the lowest setting, the average cost of play is more than three times that of the default.
- Volatility labels such as ‘5 of 5’, ‘Extreme’ or ‘Insane’ are each studio’s own scale, not a shared standard.

Wanted Dead or a Wild and the Hacksaw western line-up
Hacksaw doesn’t sell its westerns as a numbered series in the way Relax does with Money Train. Instead, a handful of games share outlaws, revolvers and showdowns, with Wanted Dead or a Wild as the anchor. These are the titles we can describe from checked data or the developer’s announcements:
| Slot | Released | RTP | Volatility | Layout | Max win | Main feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wanted Dead or a Wild | Check the help screen | 96.38% | High | 5 × 5, 15 paylines | 12,500x | Check the help screen |
| 2 Wild 2 Die | 2024 | 96.25% (94.15%, 92.14% and 88.25% versions exist) | High | 5 × 4 | 15,000x | Revolver symbols shoot multiplier wilds, leading to two free-spin rounds |
| Bullets and Bounty | August 2025 | Check the help screen | Check the help screen | Check the help screen | Check the help screen | Bounty DuelReels, with outlaw multipliers from 2x to 100x |

Who makes Wanted: Hacksaw Gaming in brief
Hacksaw Gaming launched in September 2018 and is based in Malta. Its parent, Hacksaw AB, has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm under the ticker HACK since 25 June 2025, and the group is led by chief executive Christoffer Källberg. The company says it has more than 250 games across slots, scratchcards and instant-win titles, and it holds a Gambling Commission licence (reference 000-054059). Its best-known slot is Wanted Dead or a Wild.
Many Hacksaw games in our data publish volatility on a five-point scale: Chaos Crew is rated 5 of 5, for example, and RIP City 3 of 5. That scale is Hacksaw’s own, so a ‘5 of 5’ here can’t be compared directly with another studio’s ‘high’.
Wanted Dead or a Wild: RTP, volatility and max win
Wanted Dead or a Wild is played on 5 reels and 5 rows with 15 paylines. Its published RTP of 96.38% gives a house edge of 3.62%, so the long-run average cost is 3.62p per £1 staked. It’s rated high volatility, and its top prize is 12,500x the stake.
| Stake | Average cost per spin | Average cost per 500 spins | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10p | 0.362p | £1.81 | £1,250 |
| 40p | 1.448p | £7.24 | £5,000 |
| £2 (cap for ages 18–24) | 7.24p | £36.20 | £25,000 |
| £5 (cap for ages 25+) | 18.1p | £90.50 | £62,500 |
The bonus rounds carry much of this game’s value, but we haven’t confirmed their rules from a developer source, so we won’t describe them here; the help screen sets out how each feature starts and what it pays. Developers don’t publish how often features land, and we don’t repeat third-party estimates.
Hacksaw RTP versions: what 2 Wild 2 Die costs at each setting
Like many studios, Hacksaw lets casinos choose between several RTP settings for some games. 2 Wild 2 Die, the revolver-and-wilds slot listed by SlotCatalog’s 2 Wild 2 Die page (opens in a new tab), shows how wide the range can be. Here is the average cost of £100 of total stakes at each one:
| RTP setting | House edge | Average loss per £100 | Compared with the default |
|---|---|---|---|
| 96.25% (default) | 3.75% | £3.75 | Baseline |
| 94.15% | 5.85% | £5.85 | 56% more |
| 92.14% | 7.86% | £7.86 | 110% more |
| 88.25% | 11.75% | £11.75 | 213% more |
On the 88.25% version, the same play costs more than three times as much on average as on the default. You can’t feel that difference spin by spin, which is why the Gambling Commission requires the RTP to be shown in the game information. The question of whether a higher RTP slot is better covers when the figure matters most.
Bullets and Bounty and Hacksaw’s DuelReels
Hacksaw’s most explicitly Wild West release in our sources is Bullets and Bounty, released in August 2025. According to World Casino Directory’s Bullets and Bounty report (opens in a new tab), it uses Outlaw DuelReels with multipliers from 2x to 100x, combining when more than one is part of a win, and Bounty DuelReels in which the Bounty Hunter takes on each defeated outlaw’s multiplier over up to three duels.
DuelReels is a recurring Hacksaw mechanic: when a VS symbol lands as part of a win, it expands to cover its reel and two characters duel, with the winner’s multiplier applied to that reel. Ranges differ between games, so a figure from one title shouldn’t be assumed for another. Our DuelReels explainer covers the mechanic in full, and Slayers Inc is another Hacksaw game built around it.
Western slots from other studios compared with Wanted
If you like the setting, other studios have covered the same ground with very different maths. Several have far higher ceilings than Wanted; one of the most famous has a lower one but a higher RTP.
| Slot | Developer | RTP | Volatility | Ways or lines | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dead or Alive 2 | NetEnt | 96.82% | High | 9 paylines | 111,111x |
| Dead or Alive | NetEnt | 96.82% (highest version) | High | 9 paylines | Check the help screen |
| Wild West Gold | Pragmatic Play | 96.51% | High | 40 paylines | Check the help screen |
| Sticky Bandits | Quickspin | 96.58% (default) | Medium-high | 30 fixed paylines | Check the help screen |
| El Paso Gunfight | Nolimit City | 96.06% (lower versions exist) | High (Extreme option) | Check the help screen | 44,440x |
| Deadwood | Nolimit City | 96.03% (default) | Extreme | 576 ways | 13,950x |
| True Grit Redemption | Nolimit City | 96.11% (lower versions exist) | High | Check the help screen | 20,220x |
NetEnt’s Dead or Alive dates from 2009 and is one of the oldest games here. For Nolimit City’s darker frontier games, see our Tombstone series page, and for train robberies, the Money Train slots.
High, Extreme, Insane: reading western slot volatility labels
Western slots seem to attract dramatic volatility labels. Hacksaw uses a five-point scale, Nolimit City describes some games as ‘Extreme’ and others, such as Tombstone RIP, as ‘Insane’, and Quickspin rates Sticky Bandits ‘medium-high’. These are marketing-friendly descriptions of the same underlying idea: how unevenly a game spreads its return.
- A label tells you the direction, not the size. ‘Insane’ on one studio’s scale isn’t a measured amount bigger than ‘High’ on another’s.
- The max win is a better clue. A 300,000x ceiling, like Tombstone RIP’s, with an RTP near 96% has to be balanced by many weak spins.
- None of these labels changes the average cost, which depends only on the RTP and how much you stake.
Our volatility guide puts numbers on the idea.
UK rules for Hacksaw western slots
Every game on this page follows Gambling Commission rules when played at a UK-licensed casino. Stakes are capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24. Spins must take at least 2.5 seconds, with no autoplay, turbo or slam-stop, and the game can’t celebrate a return that doesn’t beat your stake. Feature buy-ins have not been offered to British players since the Commission’s January 2020 games warning to operators (opens in a new tab). See UK feature buy rules and slot stake limits.
How to check a Hacksaw slot before you spin
- Open the game and tap the menu or “i” icon to reach the rules.
- Find the RTP and compare it with the default in our tables.
- Check the volatility rating and the max win so you know how swingy the game is.
- Read how the bonus rounds start and what the multipliers do in this particular game.
- Confirm the stake you plan to use sits within your UK limit.
- Set a deposit limit and session reminder, and stop when you reach them.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Wanted Dead or a Wild?
Its published RTP is 96.38%, which means a long-run average return of £96.38 for every £100 staked and a house edge of 3.62%. Like other Hacksaw games, it may be offered at a lower setting by some casinos, so the figure in the help screen is the one to trust. Individual sessions vary widely from the average. Our RTP guide explains how the figure is calculated.
What is the max win on Wanted Dead or a Wild?
The maximum win on Wanted Dead or a Wild is 12,500 times the stake. At 10p a spin that’s £1,250, at 40p it’s £5,000, and at the UK’s £5 cap for players aged 25 and over it would be £62,500. A ceiling is the most a game can pay, not a likely result, and developers don’t publish how often it’s reached. Our full Wanted review has the rest of the specification.
Is Wanted Dead or a Wild high volatility?
Yes, the game is rated high volatility. That means many spins return little or nothing, with much of the game’s 96.38% return coming from occasional larger wins, usually in the bonus rounds. A budget can run out before a feature appears. If you prefer steadier play, a medium-volatility game suits better. See our volatility guide for how volatility and budget fit together.
Can you buy the bonus on Wanted Dead or a Wild in the UK?
No. Versions of slots offered in some other countries can include a bonus buy, but since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players. Its concern was that they could breach technical standards on game rules and on loss-chasing. In the UK, you reach the bonus rounds only through normal spins. The background is in can you buy bonus rounds on UK slots?
Why does 2 Wild 2 Die have so many RTP versions?
Studios such as Hacksaw supply some games at several RTP settings, and each casino chooses which to run. 2 Wild 2 Die is listed at 96.25% by default, with 94.15%, 92.14% and 88.25% versions also available. The game looks and plays the same, but on the lowest setting the average cost of play is more than three times higher. Our page on why slot RTPs differ between casinos explains more.
What other western slots are like Wanted Dead or a Wild?
Within Hacksaw’s range, 2 Wild 2 Die and Bullets and Bounty share the gunfight feel. From other studios, NetEnt’s Dead or Alive 2 (96.82% RTP, 111,111x max win) is the best-known rival, and Nolimit City’s El Paso Gunfight, Deadwood and True Grit Redemption offer more extreme ceilings. Pragmatic Play’s Wild West Gold is a 40-line alternative. Browse the genre on our western slots page.
Who makes Wanted Dead or a Wild?
It’s made by Hacksaw Gaming, a Malta-based studio that launched in September 2018. Its parent company, Hacksaw AB, has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 25 June 2025, and the studio holds a Gambling Commission licence. Wanted is the studio’s best-known slot. It also makes scratchcards and instant-win games. Our Hacksaw Gaming profile lists its other slots.
What is the most you can bet on Wanted Dead or a Wild in the UK?
The most you can bet is £5 a spin if you’re 25 or over and £2 if you’re 18 to 24. These online slot stake limits came in on 9 April 2025 and 21 May 2025 and apply to every slot at a UK-licensed casino, including Hacksaw’s games. A casino can set a lower maximum on its own version.
