Le Bandit slot review

The Le Bandit slot is a Hacksaw Gaming cluster-pays game on a 6×5 grid with a 96.34% RTP, medium volatility and a 10,000x maximum win. Winning spots turn into golden squares, and when a Rainbow symbol lands those squares become cash coins, which clovers multiply and Pots of Gold collect.

Le Bandit slot summary

Hacksaw Gaming launched in September 2018, is based in Malta and, through Hacksaw AB, has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 25 June 2025. Its best-known slot is Wanted Dead or a Wild, and Le Bandit belongs to its run of "Le" games, alongside Le Pharaoh and Le Viking in our reviews. The title character is a bandit, and the symbols borrow from Irish-luck slots: rainbows, clovers and pots of gold.

Beneath the theme is a cluster-pays grid with an unusual clearing rule and a coin-collection feature that builds over a spin. It is rated medium volatility, which is gentler than many Hacksaw releases. Our slot reviews hub lists the studio's other games we cover.

Le Bandit's cluster wins and the clearing rule

You win with a group of five or more matching symbols touching on the 30-position grid, the standard cluster pays idea. What happens next is less common. When a cluster pays, the game removes the winning symbols and every other symbol of the same type on the grid, not just the ones in the cluster. Then new symbols fall in to fill the gaps.

Clearing a whole symbol type opens more space at once than an ordinary cascade, so the refill has more room to form a new cluster. Each of those follow-on wins belongs to the same paid spin, like any cascading reels sequence, and their value is part of the 96.34% RTP.

How the features work: golden squares, Rainbows and coins

Golden squares

Every position that is part of a winning cluster becomes a golden square. Think of these as markers: they don't pay on their own, but they decide where coins can appear later in the spin.

The Rainbow symbol

When a Rainbow symbol lands, each golden square turns into a coin. Coins come in bronze, silver and gold, and each carries a cash value. That makes the Rainbow the moment when cluster wins earlier in the spin pay out a second time, in a different form.

Clovers and Pots of Gold

Clover symbols multiply the values of coins near them, so a clover landing next to several coins boosts each one. Pots of Gold collect coin values. The help screen sets out the exact range of coin values and how far a clover's reach extends; we only describe what our checked data confirms.

Three tiers of free spins

Three, four or five camera scatters award one of three tiers of free spins. Higher tiers keep the golden squares on the grid for longer, which gives a Rainbow more squares to convert. With five scatters, the top tier brings a Rainbow on every spin. Spin counts per tier are on the help screen; we don't quote figures that our checked data doesn't include.

The cap is a limit on a single spin and its features. It is far above what a medium-volatility game typically returns in a session, and our checked data gives no figure for how often it is reached. For context, see our explainer on what a slot's max win is.

Le Bandit RTP: a £20 budget at three stakes

At 96.34% the house edge is 3.66%. Average cost per spin = stake × 0.0366.

Medium volatility puts Le Bandit between the steady and the swingy. Smaller returns come from clusters and coin conversions in the base game, while the bigger results tend to come from the free spins tiers. A worked example: 250 spins at 40p is £100 staked, with an average cost of £3.66; the real result of any such session could be well above or below. If you want the same studio with more volatility, look at Rocket Reels, a high-volatility cluster game; our medium and high volatility guide explains the difference.

How to play the Le Bandit slot online

  1. Read the help screen for coin values, clover rules and the free spins tiers.
  2. Set a session budget and a time limit.
  3. Choose a stake; there are no paylines to pick on a cluster game.
  4. Spin and watch clusters of five or more pay, clear and refill.
  5. Note the golden squares; a Rainbow turns them into coins, boosted by clovers and collected by Pots of Gold.
  6. Land three to five camera scatters for one of the three free spins tiers.
  7. Stop when you hit your limit, whatever stage the grid is at.

UK rules for Le Bandit and other cluster slots

The Gambling Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) applies here: £5 per game cycle for players aged 25 and over, £2 for those aged 18 to 24. Cascades and coin collections within a spin are part of one game cycle. The RTS 14 product design standard (opens in a new tab) rules out autoplay, turbo and slam-stop and requires 2.5 seconds between spins. Hacksaw holds a Gambling Commission licence (ref. 000-054059). Players in Britain can only reach the free spins through scatters, since feature buy-ins are not offered to British players after the regulator's January 2020 warning; our feature buy page has the history.

Le Bandit against Le Pharaoh and Le Viking

The "Le" games share a cheeky tone but not a mechanic. Le Pharaoh uses 19 paylines and a higher 15,000x cap; Le Viking uses 15,625 ways with the same 10,000x cap as Le Bandit. All three are rated medium volatility, so the choice comes down to which win system you prefer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Le Bandit?

Le Bandit has an RTP of 96.34%, meaning an average cost of about 3.7p per £1 staked over a very long run. It is a theoretical figure across millions of spins, so any single session can be far above or below it. Check the help screen at your casino for the version in use. Our RTP explained page covers the maths.

How do golden squares work in Le Bandit?

Every position in a winning cluster becomes a golden square. When a Rainbow symbol lands, those squares turn into bronze, silver or gold coins with cash values. Clovers then multiply nearby coins and Pots of Gold collect them. In the higher free spins tiers, golden squares stay on the grid for longer. Our slot multipliers guide explains how boosts like clovers work.

What is the max win on Le Bandit?

The maximum win is 10,000 times your stake: £1,000 at 10p, £10,000 at £1 and £50,000 at the £5 cap for players aged 25 and over. It is a ceiling on one spin and its features, not a likely result. Our page on max win caps explains why studios set a limit and how to read it.

How do you get free spins on Le Bandit?

Land three, four or five camera scatter symbols to win one of three free spins tiers. More scatters give a better tier, in which golden squares stay on the grid longer, and with five scatters a Rainbow lands on every spin. British players can't buy the feature. Our free spins feature guide covers how tiered rounds work in other slots.

Is Le Bandit high volatility?

No, Le Bandit is rated medium volatility, calmer than the many Hacksaw titles rated high. Smaller returns come from clusters and coins, while the free spins tend to provide the larger wins. Results still vary a lot over short sessions. Our guide to high volatility slots lists Hacksaw titles with bigger swings if that is what you want.

What makes Le Bandit's cluster pays different?

When a cluster wins, Le Bandit removes not only the winning symbols but also every other symbol of the same type on the grid, before new symbols drop in. That clears more space than a normal cascade and can set up new clusters within the same spin. Winning positions also become golden squares for the coin feature. See our cluster pays explainer.

Who makes Le Bandit?

Le Bandit is made by Hacksaw Gaming, which launched in September 2018 and is based in Malta. Its parent, Hacksaw AB, has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 25 June 2025, and the studio holds a Gambling Commission licence. Its catalogue runs to 250+ games, with Wanted Dead or a Wild its best-known slot. See our Hacksaw Gaming slots page.

Is Le Bandit better than Le Pharaoh?

Neither is better in value terms; they differ in design. Le Bandit pays clusters on a 6×5 grid with a 96.34% RTP and 10,000x cap. Le Pharaoh uses 19 paylines with a 96.18% RTP and a 15,000x cap. Both are rated medium volatility. Pick the win system you enjoy more. Read our Le Pharaoh review to compare features.
