Heist slots
Heist slots dress the reels up as bank vaults, getaway trains, prison yards and crime dramas, and the games behind the theme range from gentle medium-volatility titles to some of the riskiest slots ever made. Here we sort the crime and heist games in our checked data by type, compare RTPs and max wins, and price out what they cost to play.
Key takeaways
- The heist slots here run from 95.16% RTP (Action Bank) to 96.8% (Holmes and the Stolen Stones), a gap worth about £8 per £500 staked.
- Prison-themed games from Nolimit City carry the biggest caps, up to 200,000x on San Quentin 2: Death Row, with matching volatility.
- San Quentin 2 comes in 96.13%, 94.03% and 92.11% versions, so check the help screen before you play.
- Medium-volatility picks such as Narcos, Le Bandit and Action Bank suit smaller budgets better than the insane-rated prison games.
- UK limits apply to every heist slot: £5 a spin (£2 aged 18–24), no autoplay and no feature buys.

Four kinds of heist slots
Crime is one of the broadest themes on our slot themes hub. In practice the games fall into four groups, and the group often hints at the maths underneath:
- Bank jobs: vaults, safes and bankers. These include some of the oldest and simplest games in the genre.
- Bandits and robbers: masked raccoons, sticky-fingered outlaws and train robbers, mostly medium to high volatility.
- Prison breaks: the jail-cell games, dominated by Nolimit City and Relax Gaming and by enormous top prizes.
- Crime drama and detectives: stories built on a TV series or a classic sleuth, usually with calmer volatility.
We list only games whose specifications sit in our checked data. Where a figure is missing, we say so rather than guess, and the game's help screen is the place to confirm it.
Heist slots compared: RTP, volatility and max win
| Slot | Group | Developer | RTP | Volatility | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Break da Bank Again | Bank job | Games Global (originally Microgaming) | 95.43% | High | Check help screen |
| Action Bank | Bank job | Barcrest (Light & Wonder) | 95.16% | Medium | Check help screen |
| Iron Bank | Bank job | Relax Gaming | 96.2% | High | 49,999x |
| Fat Banker | Bank job | Push Gaming | 96.43% (94.45% version exists) | High | 25,000x |
| Sticky Bandits | Bandits | Quickspin | 96.58% (default) | Medium-high | Check help screen |
| Le Bandit | Bandits | Hacksaw Gaming | 96.34% | Medium | 10,000x |
| Money Train | Bandits | Relax Gaming | 96.2% | Check help screen | 20,000x |
| Money Train 2 | Bandits | Relax Gaming | 96.40% | High | 50,000x |
| San Quentin xWays | Prison | Nolimit City | 96.03% (default) | Extreme | 150,000x |
| San Quentin 2: Death Row | Prison | Nolimit City | 96.13% (94.03% and 92.11% exist) | Check help screen | 200,000x |
| Folsom Prison | Prison | Nolimit City | 96.07% (default) | Insane | 75,000x |
| Hellcatraz | Prison | Relax Gaming | 96.46% (Mixed Mode) | High to very high | 51,840x |
| Narcos | Crime drama | NetEnt | 96.23% (default) | Medium | 1,506x |
| Holmes & the Stolen Stones | Detective | Yggdrasil | 96.8% | Medium | Check help screen |
The pattern is clear. The bank-job veterans have the lowest RTPs, the prison games have the biggest caps, and the detective and drama titles are the calmest. If you like the theme but want a budget to stretch, the medium-volatility rows are the ones to look at.
Bank job slots: vaults, safes and bankers
Break da Bank Again dates from 2008 and keeps the old-school layout: five reels, three rows and just 9 paylines. Its 95.43% RTP is below today's typical 96%, which tells you something about how slot maths has moved on. Action Bank from Barcrest is a 20-line game whose Big Bank pick bonus starts when Golden Vault symbols land; at 95.16% it has the lowest RTP on this page.
The newer bank games are much more volatile. Iron Bank from Relax Gaming uses six reels of four rows, which gives 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 = 4,096 ways, and caps wins at 49,999x. Fat Banker from Push Gaming spreads 50 fixed paylines across a 6x6 grid with a 25,000x cap. Fat Banker also has a 94.45% version, so the 96.43% headline figure isn't guaranteed at every casino.
Bandit and train robbery slots
Le Bandit from Hacksaw Gaming is a medium-volatility cluster-pays game on six reels of five rows, with a 96.34% RTP and a 10,000x cap. Sticky Bandits from Quickspin runs 30 fixed paylines over a 5x5 grid at a 96.58% default RTP and is rated medium-high.
The Money Train games are the robbers' end of the Wild West. The original (2019) has 40 fixed paylines on five reels of four rows and a 20,000x cap; Money Train 2 keeps the 40 lines, lifts the RTP to 96.40% and the cap to 50,000x. The later sequels push the caps higher still, and our Money Train series page follows the whole line. Players who prefer the frontier to the vault can also browse our Wild West slots.
Prison slots: the riskiest heist games
The prison games are where the genre gets extreme. San Quentin xWays (2021) starts with 243 ways on a 5x3 grid plus Enhancer Cells, adds ways through Razor Split and xWays symbols, and caps wins at 150,000x. Its sequel, San Quentin 2: Death Row (2024), moves to five reels of four rows, which is 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 = 1,024 ways, and its Green Mile Spins bonus uses Jumping Wilds. The San Quentin 2 launch report (opens in a new tab) covers the release, and its 200,000x cap is the largest on this page.
Folsom Prison (14 June 2022) begins with only 16 ways and opens up as more cells come into play, towards a 4-6-6-6-4 shape; it is rated insane, Nolimit City's top tier. Hellcatraz from Relax Gaming offers 46,656 ways on a 6x6 grid, which is 6 to the power 6, with a 51,840x cap. All four rely on mechanics explained on our xWays and xNudge and split symbols pages.
Extreme and insane volatility means the RTP is concentrated in rare, very large wins. Most sessions on these games return well below the stake, and a bonus round can pay less than the cost of reaching it.
Why heist slot RTP versions matter
Several heist games are sold to casinos in more than one RTP version. San Quentin 2 is the starkest case. The game looks the same in all three, but the long-run cost differs a lot. Under the Commission's rules on game descriptions and the likelihood of winning (opens in a new tab), the game information must show the return, so you can check which version you are on.
| RTP version | House edge | Average cost per £100 | At 20p, cost per 500 spins |
|---|---|---|---|
| 96.13% | 3.87% | £3.87 | £3.87 |
| 94.03% | 5.97% | £5.97 | £5.97 |
| 92.11% | 7.89% | £7.89 | £7.89 |
500 spins at 20p is £100 staked, which is why the last two columns match. The 92.11% version costs roughly twice as much as the top version on average. Our explainer on whether casinos can change a game's RTP covers how versions are chosen.
What heist slots cost per hour at 50p
UK slots must allow at least 2.5 seconds per spin, but few people play anywhere near that pace once wins, features and pauses are counted. For a like-for-like comparison, assume 1,000 spins at 50p, or £500 staked, and use each game's top RTP.
| Slot | RTP | House edge | Average cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Action Bank | 95.16% | 4.84% | £24.20 |
| Break da Bank Again | 95.43% | 4.57% | £22.85 |
| Iron Bank | 96.2% | 3.8% | £19.00 |
| Narcos | 96.23% | 3.77% | £18.85 |
| Sticky Bandits | 96.58% | 3.42% | £17.10 |
| Holmes & the Stolen Stones | 96.8% | 3.2% | £16.00 |
Choosing Holmes over Action Bank saves £8.20 per £500 staked on average. That is a real saving over time, but volatility decides what happens in any one session far more than this difference does. The house edge calculator lets you run the same sum for your own stake and pace.
Crime drama and detective slots
Narcos from NetEnt is built on the TV crime series, which also puts it in our TV and film slots collection. It is a medium-volatility 243-ways game with a 96.23% default RTP and a modest 1,506x cap, which makes it one of the gentler games on this page.
Holmes & the Stolen Stones from Yggdrasil (September 2015) is a 20-line, medium-volatility game with the highest RTP here at 96.8%. Its max win isn't in our checked data, so look it up on the help screen.
How to pick a heist slot for your budget
- Decide your budget for the session first and treat it as money spent on entertainment.
- Pick the group that suits your risk appetite: crime drama or bandits for steadier play, prison games only if you accept long losing runs.
- Open the help screen and confirm the RTP version. If it is a reduced version, consider another game.
- Choose a stake that gives you 100 spins or more: 20p or less on a £20 budget.
- Turn on a reality check and set a deposit limit in the casino account.
- Stop when the budget runs out. Never raise the stake to recover losses.
Our guide to making a casino budget last has more on stake sizing, and how long £20 lasts on a slot works through the numbers.
UK rules for online heist slots
The Gambling Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) caps stakes at £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24. On San Quentin 2, the 200,000x cap means a top prize of £400,000 at the £2 limit and £1,000,000 at £5, while at 10p it is £20,000.
Every heist slot here also follows the standard design rules: no autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, at least 2.5 seconds per spin, and no celebrating returns that don't beat your stake. Feature buys, a common extra on prison games in other markets, haven't been offered to British players since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020. See our game design rules page for the full list.
If heist games stop feeling like entertainment, the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, run by GamCare (opens in a new tab), is free and open 24/7.

Frequently asked questions
What are heist slots?
Heist slots are online slots themed around robberies, bank vaults, outlaws, prisons or crime stories. Examples in our data include Iron Bank, Le Bandit, San Quentin xWays and Narcos. The theme is decoration: each game's RTP, volatility and max win are set by its developer and vary widely, from medium-volatility games with small caps to insane-rated prison slots. Compare the figures in our table, or read our volatility guide, before choosing one.
Which heist slot has the highest RTP?
Holmes & the Stolen Stones from Yggdrasil has the highest published RTP among the crime and heist slots in our data, at 96.8%. Sticky Bandits follows at 96.58% by default. At the other end, Action Bank is 95.16%. On £500 staked, the gap between the best and worst is about £8.20 on average. See our Holmes & the Stolen Stones review and check the help screen for the version on offer.
Which heist slot has the biggest max win?
San Quentin 2: Death Row from Nolimit City has the largest published cap here, at 200,000 times the stake. San Quentin xWays follows at 150,000x and Folsom Prison at 75,000x. These caps are extremely rare outcomes, and the games carry very high volatility to match. Developers don't publish how often the cap is reached, as our page on what a max win cap means explains.
Why do some heist slots have several RTPs?
Developers sell many slots in more than one RTP version, and each casino picks which to offer. San Quentin 2 comes in 96.13%, 94.03% and 92.11% versions, and Fat Banker in 96.43% and 94.45%. The game looks the same, but the lower versions cost more on average. UK rules require the game information to show the return, so open the help screen. Our page on why slot RTPs differ between casinos explains more.
Are prison slots good for small budgets?
Prison slots such as Folsom Prison and San Quentin xWays are rated insane or extreme, so they are a poor fit for a small budget if you want it to last. Their RTP is concentrated in rare, very large wins, which means long runs of small or no returns. If you still want to play one, use the smallest stake available. Our guide to low-stakes casino play covers sensible stake sizes.
Is Break da Bank Again still available?
Break da Bank Again, released in 2008 and now part of the Games Global catalogue, is still listed in our checked data with a 95.43% RTP, high volatility and 9 paylines. Whether a particular casino carries it is something to check in that casino's game lobby. Its RTP is lower than most modern slots, so it costs a little more per spin on average. Our Break da Bank Again review has the details.
Can I buy the bonus on San Quentin in the UK?
No. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so the San Quentin bonus rounds can only be reached through normal spins. The Commission said feature buys risked breaching its standards on game rules and on encouraging players to chase losses. Our feature buy rules page sets out the background.
Do heist slots pay out more often at certain times?
No. Online slots use a random number generator, and each spin is independent of the last, so the time of day, a quiet spell or a recent big win make no difference. The RTP is fixed by the version the casino runs. Our answer to whether slots pay out more at certain times explains why timing and patterns can't help.
