Key takeaways
- Reactoonz pays for clusters of five or more touching symbols on a 7x7 grid, and wins cascade.
- There are no regular wilds; they come only from features such as Instability and Fluctuation.
- Winning symbols charge the Quantumeter, which queues random Quantum features; a full charge brings Gargantoon.
- The 96.51% RTP means an average cost of about 3.5p per £1 staked, among the better returns for a high volatility slot.
- The 4,570x cap is £4,570 on a £1 spin; UK stake limits of £5 and £2 apply.

The Reactoonz slot in 60 seconds
Reactoonz is one of Play'n GO's best-known games, alongside Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead. The Swedish developer, based in Växjö and privately held, built it around cartoon aliens on a big square grid. There are no reels in the usual sense and no paylines: symbols fill a 7x7 board, and groups that touch pay out.
The game is busy. Wins disappear, new symbols drop, a meter charges up, and random features fire to reshape the board. Behind all that movement, the maths is straightforward: a 96.51% return, high volatility and a 4,570x ceiling. It is a good example of how a lot of on-screen action can sit on top of quite a conventional cost. Find it with similar games in our slot reviews.

How Reactoonz wins form on a 7x7 cluster grid
A win in Reactoonz is a cluster: five or more identical symbols that touch each other. A larger cluster pays more than a smaller one, according to the paytable. Once a cluster has paid, its symbols are removed and the ones above fall down, with new symbols dropping in from the top to fill the gaps. This is the cascading idea, and it means one stake can produce a chain of wins.
The 7x7 board has 49 positions, so there are many ways for groups to connect. That does not make wins frequent or large by itself; the symbol weights and paytable decide that, and the developer does not publish how often clusters land. What the grid size does mean is that rounds can run on, with each cascade changing the board for the next.
How the features work
Reactoonz layers several features on top of the cascades. Here is what each does, based on the developer's description.
| Feature | What starts it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Instability | A losing spin | Adds wilds to the grid |
| Fluctuation | See the game's rules screen | Another source of wilds |
| Quantumeter | Every winning symbol charges it | Queues random Quantum features |
| Quantum features | Charge on the Quantumeter | Implosion, Demolition, Incision or Alteration |
| Gargantoon | A full Quantumeter charge | A 3x3 wild that splits into smaller wilds with each cascade |
Wilds only from features
Unusually, there is no wild that lands on its own. Wilds appear only when a feature puts them there. Instability can step in after a spin that fails to win and add wilds, giving a dead board a second chance. Fluctuation is another route to wilds. Because wilds substitute for other symbols, they can join symbols into new clusters.
The Quantumeter and Quantum features
Every symbol that is part of a win adds charge to the Quantumeter. As it charges, it queues random Quantum features. Four are named: Implosion, Demolition, Incision and Alteration. Each changes the grid in its own way; the in-game rules explain exactly how, and we stick to the names here rather than guess at the details.
Gargantoon
A fully charged Quantumeter adds Gargantoon, a giant 3x3 wild. With each following cascade it splits into smaller wilds, so a single giant wild can feed several more wins as the board refreshes. It is the game's headline feature and where much of the high volatility comes from.
Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so Gargantoon can only be reached by charging the meter in normal play.
Reactoonz RTP: 96.51% and the cost per session
The RTP of 96.51% leaves a house edge of 3.49%. That is a fair return for a high volatility slot. On average you lose about 3.5p per £1 staked, though any one session can end far from that.
| Stake | Spins | Total staked | Average cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20p | 250 | £50 | £1.75 |
| 50p | 250 | £125 | £4.36 |
| £1 | 250 | £250 | £8.73 |
| £2 | 250 | £500 | £17.45 |
| £5 | 250 | £1,250 | £43.63 |
Against a 94% slot, the same £250 staked at £1 would cost £15 on average instead of about £8.73. If you are choosing between games, the house edge table and our high RTP slots list help you compare.
Reactoonz on a £20 budget at 10p, 50p and £1
High volatility means that much of the return arrives through rarer events such as Gargantoon, while many spins pay little. The average cost of £20 staked is about 70p at every stake (3.49% of £20). What changes is how many attempts you get.
- 10p (if your casino offers it): 200 spins before any returns. Enough time for the meter to charge several times and perhaps for a Gargantoon.
- 50p: 40 spins. Quite possibly no full charge at all, and a quiet run could take most of the budget.
- £1: 20 spins. The session is short and largely luck; a single good cascade or none at all.
Check the bet panel for your casino's lowest stake. The how long £20 lasts on a slot guide goes further into session length.
Reactoonz max win: 4,570x in pounds
| Stake | Max win |
|---|---|
| 10p | £457 |
| 50p | £2,285 |
| £1 | £4,570 |
| £2 (cap for 18 to 24) | £9,140 |
| £5 (cap for 25 and over) | £22,850 |
The cap is lower than many newer high volatility slots, which often advertise 10,000x or more, but cap size does not decide value; the RTP does. Reaching 4,570x would need an exceptional chain of cascades and features, so treat it as a ceiling, not a goal. Our page on slot max wins explains more.
Reactoonz, Reactoonz 2 and Gigantoonz compared
| Slot | RTP | Volatility | Grid | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reactoonz | 96.51% | High | 7 × 7 | 4,570x |
| Reactoonz 2 | 96.2% (top version) | High | 7 × 7 | 5,083x |
| Gigantoonz | 96.25% (top version) | High | 8 × 8 | 4,000x |
The original has the highest RTP of the three on these figures, while Reactoonz 2 has the highest cap. Gigantoonz moves to a bigger 8x8 board. All three are high volatility, so the choice comes down to which mechanics you prefer. See our cluster pays guide for other games in this style.
Reactoonz myths: meters, timing and 'due' features
- "A nearly full Quantumeter means Gargantoon is close, so I should raise my stake." The meter shows progress within the current round, but what lands next is still random. A bigger stake simply costs more per spin.
- "Instability makes losing spins less costly." It adds wilds after a loss, but its value is already counted in the 96.51% RTP. It does not refund stakes.
- "The aliens follow patterns." Outcomes come from a certified random number generator; see the Commission's RTS 7 on random outcomes (opens in a new tab) and our guide to random number generators.
- "Busy screens mean winning." A long cascade can still pay back less than your stake. Watch your net position.
How to play Reactoonz online
- Decide on a budget and set a deposit limit with your casino.
- Open Reactoonz and read the rules screen for the RTP version and how each Quantum feature works.
- Pick a stake within the UK limit: £5 a spin for 25 and over, £2 for 18 to 24.
- Spin. Clusters of five or more touching symbols pay, then vanish so new symbols can fall in.
- Watch the Quantumeter charge with each winning symbol; it queues random features and, at full charge, adds Gargantoon.
- Keep an eye on the on-screen net position and session time, and stop when you reach your limit.
Playing Reactoonz under UK slot rules
As an online slot, Reactoonz is subject to the UK slot stake limits set out in the Gambling Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab): £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over (from 9 April 2025) and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds (from 21 May 2025).
Under the game design rules, each spin must take at least 2.5 seconds, there is no autoplay, turbo or slam-stop, and returns that don't exceed your stake aren't celebrated. Long cascade sequences still have to respect those rules on UK sites, and your net spend and time played are shown in real time.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Reactoonz?
Reactoonz has an RTP of 96.51%, according to the developer's published figures, which gives a house edge of 3.49%. On average that is about 3.5p lost for every £1 staked over a very long run. Some casinos may use a lower RTP version, so check the information screen in the game. Our guide to why slot RTPs differ between casinos explains why.
How do you win on Reactoonz?
You win on Reactoonz by landing clusters of five or more identical symbols that touch each other on the 7x7 grid. The cluster pays, its symbols disappear, and new ones fall in, which can create further wins from the same stake. There are no paylines. Wilds come only from features, and the Quantumeter adds random features as you win. Our cluster pays guide explains the mechanic in detail.
What is Gargantoon in Reactoonz?
Gargantoon is a giant 3x3 wild that appears when the Quantumeter is fully charged. With each cascade that follows, it splits into smaller wilds, so it can help form several wins in a row as the grid refreshes. It is the game's biggest feature and a major source of its high volatility. You cannot buy it on UK sites. See our guide to wild symbols for other wild types.
What does the Quantumeter do on Reactoonz?
The Quantumeter is a meter that charges every time a symbol forms part of a win. As it fills, it queues random Quantum features named Implosion, Demolition, Incision and Alteration, each of which changes the grid. When it is fully charged, it adds Gargantoon. The meter shows progress, but it does not make the next spin more likely to pay. Read about the gambler's fallacy to see why.
What is the max win on Reactoonz?
The maximum win on Reactoonz is 4,570x your stake. That is £457 on a 10p spin, £4,570 on a £1 spin and £22,850 at the £5 UK maximum for players aged 25 and over. Reaching it needs an exceptional run of cascades and features, so it should not shape your budget. Our explainer on max win caps shows how they work.
Is Reactoonz better than Reactoonz 2?
On RTP, the original Reactoonz is slightly ahead at 96.51% against Reactoonz 2's top version of 96.2%. Reactoonz 2 has a higher cap of 5,083x against 4,570x. Both are high volatility and use a 7x7 cluster grid, with different features. The better choice is the one whose features you enjoy more. Our Reactoonz 2 review covers the sequel's mechanics.
Who makes Reactoonz?
Reactoonz is made by Play'n GO, a privately held Swedish developer based in Växjö. The company built its first gaming product in 1997 and has a library of several hundred games, including Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead. Its games are widely available at UK casinos. Our Play'n GO profile lists its slots with checked RTP, volatility and max win figures.
Is Reactoonz a high volatility slot?
Yes, Reactoonz is rated high volatility. A large part of its return comes through features such as Gargantoon, so many spins pay little and the balance can swing sharply. The average cost of about 3.5p per £1 staked does not change, but the path is uneven. Using a lower stake gives a budget more spins. Our volatility guide has worked examples.
