Playtech slots

Playtech slots come from the supplier founded in Tartu, Estonia, in 1999 by Teddy Sagi, now based in Douglas on the Isle of Man and listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is best known for the Age of the Gods jackpot games, live casino and casino platforms, and it has owned Quickspin since 2016. Here are its games, their RTPs, what jackpots cost you and the UK rules.

Key takeaways

  • Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, is headquartered in Douglas, Isle of Man, and trades on the London Stock Exchange as PTEC.
  • Its jackpot slots, such as Age of the Gods (95.02%) and Jackpot Giant (94.22%), include the jackpot contribution in the quoted RTP.
  • Halloween Fortune (97.06%) and Quickspin's Big Bad Wolf (97.34%) are among the higher-RTP games in the group.
  • Playtech has owned Quickspin since 2016 and runs its own live casino studios.
  • UK slot stake limits, the 2.5-second spin rule and the autoplay ban all apply.

Playtech: the company behind the slots

Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi. It is now headquartered in Douglas on the Isle of Man, and its shares trade on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC, after it first floated on AIM in 2006. Unlike studios that only make games, Playtech also supplies the casino platforms that operators run on, along with live dealer tables, which its corporate site (opens in a new tab) describes.

In 2016 Playtech bought the Swedish studio Quickspin, whose games now sit within the group but keep their own brand. For a wider view of how Playtech compares with other suppliers, see our slot providers hub, and for its dealer games our Playtech Live page.

Playtech slots list: RTP, volatility and features

These are the Playtech-branded games we review. RTPs are the developer's published figures; where a version note appears, the casino may run a lower setting.

Playtech slots we cover
SlotRTPVolatilityWays or linesMax win or jackpotReleased
Age of the Gods95.02% (jackpot included)Medium (some say medium to high)20 fixed paylinesUltimate Power progressive2016

Great Blue96.03%High25 paylines–2013
Halloween Fortune97.06% (lower versions exist)Medium20 paylines––

The pattern is clear: Playtech leans on jackpots and on medium-to-high volatility, and several titles publish no fixed max win because the top prize is a progressive pot. Buffalo Blitz 2's 10,000x cap is the largest fixed ceiling in this group; at 20p that would be £2,000.

Age of the Gods: how Playtech's jackpot network works

Age of the Gods is Playtech's best-known slot brand: a run of games themed on the Greek gods and linked to the Age of the Gods progressive jackpot, which has four tiers on God of Storms. The original 2016 game uses 20 fixed paylines with the Ultimate Power progressive as its top prize. God of Storms (2017) adds Wild Wind Respins, in which a ship-shaped wild moves across the reels, alongside the same four-tier jackpot. Our Greek mythology slots page covers the wider theme.

The important detail for your budget is how the RTP is quoted. Age of the Gods' 95.02% and God of Storms' 96.14% both include the share of every stake that feeds the jackpot. Because the top tiers are won very rarely, most players get back less than the quoted figure from the regular game. Our data does not break the contribution out for these titles, so look in the help screen, which may state the base-game and jackpot portions separately.

A jackpot slot's quoted RTP assumes the jackpot is eventually paid. Your own return over a normal session, without the jackpot, is lower than the headline figure.

Our progressive jackpot maths page explains how pool size and seed values affect the real return, and the Wizard of Odds slots page (opens in a new tab) discusses when a progressive can tilt the numbers.

Playtech RTPs in pounds: from Jackpot Giant to Halloween Fortune

Across the group the RTP spread is wide, which makes game choice matter more than with some studios. Expected loss is total staked multiplied by the house edge, so here is the average cost of £100 in total stakes, for example 500 spins at 20p.

Average cost per £100 staked on Playtech group slots
SlotRTPHouse edgeAverage cost per £100
Big Bad Wolf (Quickspin)97.34%2.66%£2.66
Halloween Fortune97.06%2.94%£2.94

Gladiator: Road to Rome95.05%4.95%£4.95
Age of the Gods95.02%4.98%£4.98
Jackpot Giant94.22%5.78%£5.78

Jackpot Giant costs about twice as much per £100 as Halloween Fortune or Big Bad Wolf, and that is before you allow for the fact that part of Jackpot Giant's RTP sits in a jackpot most players never land. If you play Halloween Fortune, check the help screen: the 97.06% is the top figure, and lower versions exist. Our RTP against house edge explainer shows the conversion.

Quickspin slots within the Playtech group

Quickspin has been part of Playtech since 2016 and keeps its own studio identity. Its games tend to publish higher RTPs than Playtech's jackpot titles, as the table shows.

Phoenix Sun96.08%Medium243 to 7,776 ways2016

Sakura Fortune shows why version checks matter: at up to 96.58% it costs about £3.42 per £100 staked, but a version around 90% would cost about £10, nearly three times as much.

Playtech live casino and table games

Playtech is as much a live casino supplier as a slot maker. Its live products page (opens in a new tab) lists titles such as Quantum Roulette and Mega Fire Blaze Roulette, and it opened its third US live studio, in Pennsylvania, on 28 November 2023. Its Spin a Win money wheel appears to follow the same rules and odds as Evolution's Dream Catcher, according to Wizard of Odds analysis.

Live and table games sit under different UK rules from slots: the £5 and £2 stake caps do not apply, but autoplay is banned and each game cycle must last at least 5 seconds. Our live casino rules page and the Playtech Live provider page cover this side of the business.

How to choose a Playtech slot

  1. Decide whether you want a jackpot game; if not, skip Age of the Gods, Gladiator and Jackpot Giant.
  2. Check the RTP in the help screen and note whether it includes a jackpot contribution.
  3. Confirm you are on the top version, especially for Halloween Fortune, Buffalo Blitz and Sakura Fortune.
  4. Match volatility to your budget: medium for longer sessions, high only if you accept long losing runs.
  5. Set your stake within the UK limit and work out the average cost: total staked times the house edge.
  6. Turn on reality checks and a deposit limit before you start.

Our slots strategy page explains each step, and our page on how jackpots are paid out covers what happens if you do land one.

UK rules for Playtech slots online

  • Stake limits: £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over since 9 April 2025, £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds since 21 May 2025. The Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) gives examples; see our stake limits page.
  • Design: no autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, at least 2.5 seconds per spin and no celebrating returns at or below your stake; see our game design rules page.
  • Feature buys: since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players.
  • Age checks: age and identity are verified before you deposit or play, including in demo mode.

Where to play Playtech slots in the UK

Our partner offers are slot offers, but none is tied to a Playtech or Quickspin game, and we do not claim any partner carries one, so check the casino's game lobby. Free spins are usually limited to selected games and often exclude jackpot titles, so read the terms. 18+ and terms apply.

  • PlayOJO: new UK customers (excluding Northern Ireland) making a first deposit of £10 or more get 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each; no wagering, winnings paid in cash.
  • Coral: deposit (some types excluded) and bet £10 or more on slots for 100 free spins at 10p on selected games, to be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days, with no wagering on spin winnings; runs 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027.
  • Ladbrokes: deposit and spend £10 or more on slots for 50 free spins a day for 10 days (up to 500), 10p each on selected games, claimed by 23:59 daily and valid 7 days, no wagering.

One company, LC International Limited, operates Coral and Ladbrokes, so a new-customer offer at one may rule you out at the other. Our Ladbrokes jackpots page covers that casino's jackpot section.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Playtech?

Playtech is a public company listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC, so it is owned by its shareholders. It was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi, floated on AIM in 2006 and is now headquartered in Douglas, Isle of Man. Playtech in turn owns the Quickspin studio, which it bought in 2016. Our Quickspin provider page covers that studio's games.

What is the RTP of Age of the Gods?

Age of the Gods has a published RTP of 95.02%, and that figure includes the contribution to its progressive jackpot, topped by the Ultimate Power prize. Because the top jackpots are won rarely, your return from the regular game will usually be lower than 95.02%. The help screen may show the base and jackpot portions separately. At 95.02%, £100 of stakes costs about £4.98 on average. See our Age of the Gods review for the full specification.

What is the highest RTP Playtech slot?

Halloween Fortune has the highest RTP among the Playtech-branded slots we cover, at 97.06%, though lower versions exist, so check the help screen. Within the wider group, Quickspin's Big Bad Wolf is higher still at 97.34%. Both cost under £3 per £100 staked on average, about half the cost of Jackpot Giant at 94.22%. Our guide on whether a higher RTP slot is better explains when the gap matters.

Does Playtech own Quickspin?

Yes, Playtech has owned Quickspin since acquiring the Swedish studio in 2016. Quickspin keeps its own brand and style, and its games, such as Big Bad Wolf at 97.34% and Sticky Bandits at 96.58%, generally publish higher RTPs than Playtech's own jackpot titles. Ownership does not change how a game pays; each title's RTP and rules are set out in its help screen. Our Quickspin page lists the studio's games.

Can you win a Playtech jackpot with free spins?

Whether free spins can win a Playtech progressive jackpot depends on the game rules and the offer terms, and many free spin offers are restricted to selected games that may not include jackpot titles. Where a jackpot game is eligible, the chance of landing a top tier at 10p is very small. Read both the offer terms and the game's help screen before assuming a jackpot is in play. Our question on winning a jackpot with free spins explains more.

Is Playtech a live casino provider?

Yes, Playtech runs live casino as well as slots, with titles such as Quantum Roulette and Mega Fire Blaze Roulette listed on its products page. It opened its third US live studio, in Pennsylvania, in November 2023. In the UK, live games are not covered by the slot stake limits, but autoplay is banned and each round must take at least 5 seconds. Our Playtech Live page covers its live range.

Are Playtech jackpot slots worth it?

Playtech jackpot slots are worth it only if you are happy to pay extra for a very small chance at a large pool. Their quoted RTPs, such as Age of the Gods at 95.02% and Jackpot Giant at 94.22%, already include the jackpot share, so everyday play returns less. If you are not chasing the jackpot, a higher-RTP game such as Halloween Fortune costs less for the same time. Our progressive jackpot odds page explains the trade-off.
