Casino bonus codes

Casino bonus codes are short words or strings you type at sign-up or in the cashier to attach an offer to your account. Many UK casinos no longer use them: none of our five partners needs a promo code, and offers are claimed by opting in, choosing the bonus at sign-up or arriving through a specific offer link.

Key takeaways

  • A bonus code only tells the casino which offer to attach; it doesn’t make the offer bigger or the terms looser.
  • Our five partner casinos need no promo code for their current welcome offers.
  • UK rules say players must opt in to promotions, and terms can’t be changed after you opt in.
  • Code sites that promise secret or bigger offers are a red flag, especially if they point to unlicensed casinos.
  • Every code offer is still capped at 10x wagering in Great Britain and carries full terms; 18+ only.

What casino bonus codes actually do

A bonus code, also called a promo code or voucher code, is a label. When you enter it, the casino’s system knows which promotion to apply to your account. That is all it does. The value of the offer, the wagering, the stake per spin and the expiry are fixed by the offer’s terms, not by the code.

Codes became popular because one casino might run several welcome offers at once: a standard one on its own site and different versions for different marketing partners. The code was a simple way to tell them apart. Today the same job is often done by the link you arrive through, by a choice you make at sign-up, or by an opt-in button.

Do UK casinos still use bonus codes? How our partners work

Among our five partner casinos, none asks for a code on its current welcome offer. Each has a different claim route, and getting that route right matters more than any code would.

How each partner’s welcome offer is claimed (no code needed)
CasinoOfferHow it is claimed
CoralBet £10 on slots, get 100 free spinsDeposit (certain types excluded) and bet £10+ on slots; accept spins within 48 hours
LadbrokesPlay £10 on slots, get up to 500 free spinsDeposit and spend £10+ on slots; claim 50 spins before 23:59 each day for 10 days
PlayOJO80 free spins, no wageringFirst deposit of £10+, through the designated offer link only
Casumo50% bonus up to £100Opt in, then make a first deposit of £20+
10bet100% bonus up to £25Choose the casino welcome bonus at sign-up, deposit within 7 days

Two of those routes are easy to miss. Casumo’s offer needs an opt-in, so depositing without opting in won’t trigger it. 10bet asks you to pick the casino welcome bonus at sign-up, which does the job a code once did. Read each brand’s page for the full terms: Casumo welcome bonus and 10bet welcome bonus.

Bonus code, opt-in or offer link: what is the difference?

All four claim methods do the same thing from the casino’s side: they record that you want a particular promotion. From your side, they differ in how easy they are to get wrong.

Ways UK casinos attach a bonus to an account
MethodWhat you doCommon way to miss it
Promo codeType a code at sign-up or in the cashierTypo, or code entered after the deposit
Opt-in buttonTick or press to join before depositingDepositing first, then looking for the button
Sign-up choicePick the bonus from a list when registeringChoosing a different product’s offer
Offer linkRegister through a specific pageSigning up on the general home page instead

The Gambling Commission’s guidance on promotions says players must opt in and not be enrolled automatically. That is one reason opt-in buttons have spread: they make consent explicit. Whichever method a casino uses, the terms must be shown with the offer and be no more than one click away.

What a casino bonus code can’t change

A code sometimes looks like a key to something special. In Great Britain, a code can’t get around the rules that apply to every promotion.

  • Wagering. Since 19 January 2026, bonus funds can’t need more than 10 times their value in play, code or no code. See the 10x wagering cap.
  • One product. An incentive can’t mix casino with betting, bingo or lottery. A code can’t bundle sports bets with casino spins.
  • Identity checks. Your age and identity must be verified before you can deposit or gamble. A code doesn’t skip age verification.
  • Your own money. Your deposit balance stays withdrawable at any time, even while a coded bonus is active.
  • The house edge. A code changes nothing about the games. Every bet still carries its edge, so losses remain likely over time.

The value of a code offer is worked out in the same way as any other. Our guide on how much a casino bonus is worth shows the sums.

Fake bonus code sites and unlicensed casinos

Search for casino bonus codes and you’ll find pages promising exclusive, secret or no-deposit codes. Some are genuine partner pages. Others reuse expired codes, or send readers to casinos that hold no British licence.

An unlicensed site offers none of the protections in this guide: no 10x cap, no duty to let you withdraw your deposit, no GAMSTOP, no route to an approved dispute service. However large the coded offer looks, the lack of protection makes it a bad deal.

Red flags on a code page

  • Codes that promise very large no-deposit bonuses or say you can’t lose.
  • Pressure to sign up now before a code runs out.
  • No mention of the operator’s company name or licence number.
  • Advice to open several accounts, use a VPN or share codes to claim more than once.
  • Casinos that let you deposit before checking your age and identity.

How to claim a casino bonus without a code

  1. Read the offer’s significant terms first: minimum deposit, qualifying stake, spin value, wagering, expiry and excluded payment methods.
  2. Register through the route the offer names, such as a specific offer link, and pick the casino welcome bonus if asked.
  3. Complete age and identity verification when prompted; you can’t deposit or play until it’s done.
  4. Set a deposit limit when the casino asks before your first deposit.
  5. Opt in if the offer needs it, before depositing.
  6. Deposit with a payment method that qualifies, then make any qualifying bet on eligible games.
  7. Find the bonus or spins in your account’s rewards or bonus area, and note the expiry.

If an offer doesn’t appear, contact support before playing on. Under the Commission’s guidance on the right to vary a promotion (opens in a new tab), a promotion can’t be changed or withdrawn after you have opted in, except where needed to prevent fraud or similar unlawful behaviour.

Bonus codes for existing customers

Codes still turn up more often in offers for existing players: reload bonuses, seasonal promotions or rewards sent by email. The same rules apply. The 10x cap covers them, the terms must be clear and accessible, and the one-product rule bars mixed offers.

Since 1 May 2025, online casinos must ask you to opt in to direct marketing by product (casino, betting or bingo) and by channel (email, text or phone), with marketing off by default. If you’d rather not receive coded offers at all, leave those choices unticked or switch them off in your account settings.

Where a casino spots strong signs of gambling harm, it must stop marketing and new bonus take-up for that customer. That is a protection, not a punishment. If offers are pulling you into more play than you planned, the GAMSTOP guide explains how to block all licensed sites at once.

Casino bonus code myths

Advantages

  • Fact: a code just tells the casino which offer to apply.
  • Fact: the same 10x cap and terms rules cover coded and code-free offers.
  • Fact: none of our partners needs a code for its welcome offer.

Drawbacks

  • Myth: secret codes give better odds on the games.
  • Myth: a code lets you claim a welcome offer twice.
  • Myth: no-deposit codes are common at UK casinos. None of our partners offers a no-deposit bonus; see no deposit bonus.

If a page claims its code beats everyone else’s, compare the full terms side by side. A bigger number with tighter conditions can be worth less. Our guide to casino bonus terms lists what to look for.

Partner offers that need no bonus code

Our closest partner offers are slot spin offers with no code and no wagering on spin winnings. All are for new customers aged 18+, and full terms apply.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so one person may not be able to open new accounts at both. Read our Coral review and PlayOJO review for the wider picture.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a bonus code to join a UK casino?

Often not. Many UK casinos now attach welcome offers through an opt-in button, a choice at sign-up or a specific offer link instead of a code. None of our five partner casinos needs a promo code for its current welcome offer. What matters is following the claim steps in the terms, such as opting in before depositing. Our welcome bonus guide explains the usual steps.

What happens if I forget to enter a casino bonus code?

You may not get the offer, because the system had no instruction to apply it. Contact customer support straight away and before you play, since some casinos can add an offer if you ask promptly, while others can’t once a deposit has gone through. The same applies to missed opt-ins. Our list of common casino bonus mistakes covers this and other easy errors.

Are exclusive casino bonus codes better than normal offers?

Not necessarily. A code only identifies an offer; it doesn’t make the terms better by itself. An exclusive version may have more spins or a larger match, but it must still follow the same UK rules, including the 10x wagering cap. Compare the after-cost value, not the label. Our page on how much a casino bonus is worth shows how to do that.

Can I use a bonus code more than once?

Usually not. Welcome offers are normally limited to one per person, household or payment method, and deposit-based offers are usually single-use unless stated otherwise. Opening extra accounts to claim again breaks casino terms and can lead to winnings being withheld under clearly stated multiple-account rules. Our page on having accounts at several casinos explains what is allowed.

Are there no deposit bonus codes for UK casinos?

Some UK casinos run no-deposit offers, but they are less common and usually small, with wagering and tight win caps. Our five partners don’t currently offer a no-deposit bonus. Be wary of pages listing lots of no-deposit codes, because many are expired or point to unlicensed sites. Our guide to the no deposit bonus explains how genuine ones work.

Is a casino bonus code site safe to use?

It can be, if the casinos it lists hold a Gambling Commission licence and the offers match the casino’s own terms. Check the operator’s licence on the Commission’s public register, and ignore any site that suggests multiple accounts or VPNs. Unlicensed casinos give you no UK protection at all. Our guide to checking a licence shows how.

Can a casino change a bonus after I enter the code?

Not once you have opted in, except in narrow cases. Gambling Commission guidance says operators must not use terms letting them vary or withdraw a promotion for a customer who has opted in, unless that is needed to prevent fraud or similar unlawful behaviour. If you think terms were changed unfairly, complain to the casino first, then use its ADR provider; see complaints and ADR.

Do bonus codes work on blackjack or roulette?

Usually not, and you should check the terms rather than assume. Table and live games are often excluded from bonus play or count for less towards wagering, and most UK spin offers are tied to named slots. A code doesn’t change those game rules. If you mainly play tables, read our page on the live casino bonus for how such terms usually work.
