Why are some payment methods excluded from bonuses?
Why are some payment methods excluded from bonuses? Casinos set the list in each offer’s terms and rarely give a reason, but the exclusions cluster around e-wallets and prepaid vouchers, the methods that sit furthest from a named bank account. What matters most for you is that the exclusion must be shown clearly, so you can check before depositing.
Key takeaways
- E-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller and PayPal, and prepaid methods such as paysafecard, are the usual exclusions.
- Our partners’ terms name the excluded methods but don’t explain why, so any reason is an informed inference.
- UK advertising rules treat an excluded payment method as a significant condition that must be prominent.
- Check the qualifying methods before your first deposit; a deposit by an excluded method can’t usually be fixed afterwards.
- Usually excluded

- PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe and prepaid cards excluded

Why are some payment methods excluded from bonuses? The short answer
Each casino decides which deposit methods qualify for its offers and writes the list into the terms. None of our five partners explains its choice in the offer terms we checked, so nobody outside the casino can give you the official reason. What we can do is show which methods are excluded, point out what they have in common, and explain the rules that make sure you’re told before you pay in. For related questions, see our casino questions hub.
The pattern is clear across UK casinos. Methods that link directly to a verified bank account, such as a debit card or Pay by Bank, normally qualify. Methods that add a layer between your bank and the casino, such as an e-wallet or a prepaid voucher, are the ones most often left out.
Which payment methods are excluded from bonuses at our partners
| Casino | Offer | Methods that don’t qualify |
|---|---|---|
| Coral | Bet £10 on slots, get 100 free spins | Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards, certain debit cards |
| Ladbrokes | Spend £10 on slots, up to 500 free spins | Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill, Moneybookers |
| 10bet | 100% bonus up to £25 | Skrill and Neteller |
| Casumo | 50% bonus up to £100 | Payment restrictions apply; check the full terms |
| PlayOJO | 80 free spins, no wagering | None listed in the key terms; available only through the designated offer link |
Two details stand out. Coral’s “certain debit cards” isn’t defined in the key terms, so if you plan to use a debit card from a less common provider, ask support before depositing. And the methods a casino excludes from its bonus are still accepted for normal deposits: Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ help centres list PayPal and paysafecard as deposit methods, for example. Excluded means “no bonus”, not “not allowed”.
The likely reasons casinos exclude e-wallets and prepaid cards
Because the casinos don’t publish their reasoning, treat what follows as explanation of how these methods work rather than a quote from any operator. Each point fits the facts we can verify.
1. Linking a deposit to one verified person
Welcome offers are for new customers, one per person. A debit card is issued against a named bank account, which a casino can match to the identity it has already verified. A paysafecard voucher, by contrast, is a 16-digit code bought at a shop and needs no bank account at all, according to paysafecard’s own description of how it works (opens in a new tab). An e-wallet sits in between: it’s in your name, but the casino sees the wallet rather than the bank or card behind it.
2. The credit card ban and e-wallet funding
Credit cards can’t be used for gambling in Great Britain, and the Gambling Commission’s guidance on credit cards (opens in a new tab) says a casino accepting e-wallets such as PayPal or Skrill should make sure the money wasn’t loaded from a credit card. That extra check applies to every e-wallet deposit, not only bonus deposits, but it shows why casinos treat money arriving through a wallet differently from money coming straight from a bank.
3. Processing and withdrawal routes
Withdrawals generally go back to the deposit method where possible; Ladbrokes, for instance, pays paysafecard withdrawals only after a previous paysafecard deposit. Different methods also cost casinos different amounts to process, though none of our partners publishes those costs, so we can’t say how much that weighs in any decision.
None of these reasons is a hint about getting round the rule. If your preferred method is excluded, the choice is simple: use a qualifying method, or deposit without the bonus.
UK rules on showing bonus payment exclusions
Casinos may exclude methods, but they must tell you clearly. The Advertising Standards Authority’s guidance on free bets and bonuses (opens in a new tab) lists deposit requirements among the significant conditions that must be stated prominently. Its summary of a 31 July 2024 ruling against William Hill Online found that an excluded payment method shown in small print among the full terms wasn’t prominent enough.
Gambling Commission guidance takes the same line: significant conditions must appear with the headline offer on landing and sign-up pages, and placing them only in general terms and conditions isn’t enough. Our UK casino bonus rules page covers the rest of the framework, including the 10x wagering cap from 19 January 2026.
Common UK casino payment methods and bonus eligibility
This table combines what partners list as deposit methods with what their welcome offers exclude. “Not published” means the casino’s help pages don’t confirm the method either way.
| Method | Coral and Ladbrokes | 10bet | Casumo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Debit card | Accepted; qualifies (Coral excludes certain debit cards) | Accepted; qualifies | Accepted; check restrictions |
| PayPal | Accepted; excluded from offer | Accepted; not named as excluded | Accepted; check restrictions |
| Skrill | Not published; excluded from offer | Accepted; excluded from offer | Accepted; check restrictions |
| Neteller | Not published; excluded from offer | Accepted; excluded from offer | Not published for deposits |
| paysafecard | Accepted; excluded from offer | Accepted; not named as excluded | Accepted; check restrictions |
| Pay by Bank or Trustly | Accepted; not named as excluded | Accepted; not named as excluded | Accepted; check restrictions |
Payment pages for each method explain fees and speeds in more depth: see PayPal, Skrill, Neteller and debit cards.
How to make sure your deposit qualifies for a bonus
- Before registering, read the offer’s significant terms for a list of excluded methods.
- Pick a method that qualifies and that you’re happy to use for withdrawals too, since payouts usually go back the same way.
- If the terms say something vague, such as “certain debit cards”, ask live chat or email support which cards are affected.
- Opt in to the offer if it needs an opt-in, as Casumo’s does, before you deposit.
- Make the qualifying deposit and, where needed, the qualifying bet (for example, £10 on slots at Coral).
- Check the bonus or spins appear in your account; if not, contact support straight away.
If you’ve already deposited with an excluded method, the offer usually can’t be applied afterwards. Your money is still yours to play with or withdraw. Our page on payment methods excluded from bonuses goes method by method.
Myths about payment exclusions
| Myth | Fact |
|---|---|
| An excluded method is unsafe | Exclusion is about the offer, not safety; Skrill and Neteller, for example, are FCA-authorised e-money firms |
| Every e-wallet is always excluded | It varies: 10bet names only Skrill and Neteller |
| You can claim the bonus later with a second deposit | Welcome offers usually tie to the first qualifying deposit; check the terms |
| Apple Pay counts as a card everywhere | Terms don’t always say; ask support if your offer excludes certain cards |
Payment choices and safer gambling
How you pay also affects which safety tools work. A bank gambling block stops card payments to gambling merchants, but some banks say their block doesn’t cover bank transfers or third-party apps. If you use a block to manage your gambling, check how it treats e-wallets and transfers, and consider deposit limits at each casino as well. Our answer on blocking gambling payments with your bank explains the options bank by bank.

Frequently asked questions
Why can’t I use PayPal for a casino bonus?
Because some casinos exclude it in their offer terms. Coral and Ladbrokes both list PayPal among the methods that don’t qualify for their welcome spins, although they accept PayPal for ordinary deposits. Neither explains why. Other casinos may treat PayPal differently, so check each offer. Our answer on using PayPal at an online casino covers how PayPal deposits and withdrawals work.
Why are Skrill and Neteller excluded from casino bonuses?
The casinos don’t say, but both are e-wallets, which put a layer between your bank and the casino. 10bet, Coral and Ladbrokes all exclude them from their welcome offers. Casinos must also check that e-wallet money wasn’t loaded from a credit card. The exclusion doesn’t mean the methods are unsafe: both are run by an FCA-authorised firm. See Skrill casinos for more.
Can I use paysafecard to claim a welcome bonus?
Not at Coral or Ladbrokes, which exclude Paysafe and prepaid cards from their welcome offers. Other casinos may allow it, so read the offer terms. paysafecard is a prepaid code bought at a shop, which needs no bank account. It can be useful for budgeting, but withdrawals may need another method. Our paysafecard casinos page explains deposits and payouts.
What if I deposit with an excluded method by mistake?
The bonus usually won’t be added, and most casinos can’t apply it afterwards. Contact support to confirm, but expect to play without the offer. Your deposit is still yours, and UK rules let you withdraw your deposit balance at any time. Next time, check the significant terms before paying in. Our guide to casino bonus terms shows where exclusions usually appear.
Do debit cards always qualify for casino bonuses?
Usually, but not always. Debit cards are the method most offers accept, yet Coral’s terms exclude “certain debit cards” without naming them in the key terms. If you use a card from a less common issuer, ask support before depositing. Credit cards never qualify because they can’t be used for gambling in Great Britain at all. See debit card casinos for more.
Are casinos allowed to exclude payment methods from offers?
Yes, as long as they say so clearly. UK advertising guidance treats an excluded payment method as a significant condition, and the ASA has ruled against an operator whose exclusion was buried in small print. The Gambling Commission also requires significant terms to be shown with the headline offer. Read more in our guide to UK casino bonus rules.
Does Apple Pay count as a debit card for bonuses?
It depends on the casino’s terms. Apple Pay uses the card you add to it, but offer terms don’t always say how Apple Pay deposits are treated, and Coral excludes certain debit cards without naming them. If the terms aren’t clear, ask support before you deposit. Our answer on whether UK casinos accept Apple Pay covers which partners list it.
Will I have to withdraw to the same method I deposited with?
Usually, where that method supports withdrawals. Casinos generally return money to the deposit method, which is why it’s worth choosing a qualifying method you’re also happy to be paid with. Some methods have extra conditions; Ladbrokes pays paysafecard withdrawals only after a paysafecard deposit, for example. Our guide on how to withdraw explains the process.
