What debit card casinos UK players can use
A debit card casino is any online casino that lets you pay in and cash out with the card linked to your current account. In Britain that covers nearly every site licensed by the Gambling Commission, because a debit card is the one card type the law still allows. When you pay, the money leaves your own bank balance straight away, and nothing is borrowed.
The legal line is drawn in section 81 of the Gambling Act 2005. It describes a debit card payment as one taken from a bank account using a card that is not a credit-token under the Consumer Credit Act 1974. You can read the wording in section 81 on legislation.gov.uk (opens in a new tab). In plain terms: if the card spends money you already have, it counts as debit.
The two debit brands you will see in a UK cashier are Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard. We cover each in more depth on our Visa casinos and Mastercard casinos pages, and the wider choice of methods sits on our casino payments hub.
Why debit card casinos took over after the credit card ban
From 14 April 2020, licensed gambling businesses in Great Britain have not been allowed to accept payment by credit card. The rule is condition 6.1.2 of the Commission's licence conditions, and it also catches credit card payments routed through a money service business. A business that accepts an e-wallet such as PayPal or Skrill is expected to make sure the wallet was not loaded from a credit card. Our credit card ban explainer covers the background.
The ban was announced on 14 January 2020. At the time, UK Finance estimated that about 800,000 people gambled on credit cards, and research cited by the Commission found that 22% of online gamblers using credit cards were problem gamblers. The Commission's own guide to gambling using a credit card (opens in a new tab) sets out what the rule means for players.
| Card type | Accepted for gambling? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Visa Debit | Yes | Spends money already in your bank account |
| Debit Mastercard | Yes | Spends money already in your bank account |
| Maestro | Listed by Coral and Ladbrokes | A debit card, but being phased out in Europe |
| Credit card (any brand) | No | LCCP 6.1.2, in force since 14 April 2020 |
| Credit card loaded into an e-wallet | No | Operators must check e-wallet funds were not loaded by credit card |
The ban covers all online and offline gambling except non-remote lotteries, such as a scratchcard bought in a shop that also sells other goods.
UK casinos that take debit cards: our five partners compared
Each of our partner casinos lists debit cards, but the published detail varies a lot. Coral and Ladbrokes share one operator, LC International Limited, and their help centres name Visa, Mastercard and Maestro. Casumo's FAQ names Visa and Mastercard. PlayOJO's help page names debit cards without listing brands, and 10bet's card support comes from a third-party review rather than its own help centre, so confirm it in the cashier.
| Casino | Card deposits | Card withdrawals | Published payout time | Withdrawal fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coral | Yes (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro) | Yes | Approval, then Visa Fast Funds typically up to 4 hours | None |
| Ladbrokes | Yes (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro) | Yes | Approval, then Visa Fast Funds typically up to 4 hours | None |
| PlayOJO | Yes | Yes, back to the deposit method where possible | Most payments processed within a few hours | Not published |
| Casumo | Yes (Visa, Mastercard) | Yes | Up to 2 days after approval | £3 below £10, none from £10 |
| 10bet | Yes (third-party listing) | Yes | Up to 2 business days | Not published |
For each brand's full cashier, see our pages on Coral payments, Ladbrokes payments and PlayOJO payments, plus the Casumo review for its cashier rules.
How to deposit with a debit card at a UK online casino
Before any money moves, the casino must check your age and identity. That has been the rule since 7 May 2019, and it applies even to free-to-play demo games. Our account verification guide explains what is checked. Since 31 October 2025 you will also be prompted to set a financial limit before your first deposit.
- Open the cashier and choose Visa or Mastercard (debit).
- Set a deposit limit when prompted; a figure you could lose without it hurting is the right one.
- Enter the long card number, expiry date and security code exactly as printed on the card.
- Type the amount, keeping within the casino's minimum and any per-deposit cap.
- Approve the payment in your banking app if your bank asks for extra security.
- Check that the balance has updated before you open a game.
Debit card withdrawals: approval, closed loop and real timings
Withdrawals happen in two stages. First the casino reviews and approves the request; then the money travels to your card. The Entain-run pair, Coral and Ladbrokes, put it plainly: payouts take from instantly to five banking days depending on the method, on top of their internal processing. Their Visa Fast Funds help page (opens in a new tab) says approval typically takes a couple of hours, then the money typically reaches the bank within 4 hours, with payouts above £2,000 taking longer.
Most casinos also follow a closed-loop policy: money goes back to the method you deposited with, where possible. Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO all say so. So if you paid in by card, expect the card to be the place your winnings return. Once a request is made, UK rules stop the casino offering to cancel it, which is known as the reverse withdrawal ban. Our guide to how to withdraw walks through it, step by step.
| Casino | Approval stage (published) | Transfer stage (published) | Fee on £150 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coral or Ladbrokes | Typically a couple of hours | Typically up to 4 hours (Visa Fast Funds) | £0 |
| Casumo | Within a matter of hours; policy limit 3 days | Up to 2 days | £0 |
| 10bet | Not published separately | Up to 2 business days | Not published |
| PlayOJO | Most within a few hours | Not published | Not published |
Small withdrawals can cost more than you expect. Casumo charges £3 on withdrawals below £10. On an £8 cash-out that is 37.5% of the money (£3 ÷ £8), while at £10 or more the fee is nil, so it pays to let a small balance reach £10 or simply leave it as a limit for your next session. Our withdrawal fees page compares the rules.
Deposit caps, card limits and checks at UK casinos
Casinos set their own payment rules on top of the law. At Coral and Ladbrokes, UK deposits are capped at £2,000 each and allow three active payment methods in any rolling 30 days. PlayOJO lets you hold up to two unverified cards at a time. Casumo's minimum deposit is £10 for every method. 10bet doesn't publish a minimum, so check its cashier.
- Financial vulnerability checks: since 28 February 2025, a casino must run a public-record check when your deposits minus withdrawals pass £150 in a rolling 30 days.
- Limit prompts: since 31 October 2025, you are asked to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and lowering a limit takes effect at once.
- Credit-reference "affordability checks" are not live: they were piloted, and the Commission has made no decision to bring them in.
See our minimum deposit guide for the lowest amounts each partner publishes; the £150 rule itself is a Gambling Commission licence condition.
Do debit card deposits qualify for casino bonuses?
Usually yes, but not always. Card deposits are the method least often excluded from welcome offers, which is one reason they are popular. The exclusions in our partners' terms are mostly aimed at e-wallets and prepaid cards, though Coral also says certain debit cards won't qualify without naming them. Our page on payment method exclusions explains why casinos do this.
| Casino | Offer | Card deposit qualifies? | Named exclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coral | Bet £10 on slots, get 100 free spins | Most debit cards | Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards, certain debit cards |
| Ladbrokes | Play £10 on slots, get up to 500 free spins | Yes | Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill, Moneybookers |
| PlayOJO | 80 free spins, no wagering, £10 first deposit | Yes, if £10+ | None named in the key terms |
| Casumo | 50% up to £100, £20 minimum | Check terms | Payment restrictions apply |
| 10bet | 100% up to £25 | Yes | Skrill, Neteller |
Remember that table and live games are often excluded from bonuses or count for less towards wagering, so a card deposit made to claim a slot offer won't carry over to blackjack or roulette. Our welcome bonus guide covers the terms that matter.
What a £50 debit card deposit buys at standard odds
Because a debit card spends real money from your account, it helps to know what the games cost before you pay in. The house edge tells you the average loss per pound staked over the long run, so expected loss equals stake times edge. Any single session can land far above or below that average.
| Game and stake | House edge or RTP | Average loss per bet | Staked over 100 rounds | Average loss over 100 rounds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| European roulette, £1 even-money bet | 2.70% edge | 2.7p | £100 staked | £2.70 |
| Slot at 96% RTP, 50p a spin | 4% edge | 2p | £50 staked | £2.00 |
| Slot at 96% RTP, £2 a spin | 4% edge | 8p | £200 staked | £8.00 |
The roulette figure comes from counting pockets: a red bet wins on 18 of 37 numbers and pays even money, so the edge is 1 ÷ 37, or 2.70%. The slot rows use a 96% RTP as an example; check each game's help screen for its real figure. Notice that the bigger stake costs four times as much per round, and that the £50 can be staked many times over as wins are recycled.
Debit card gambling blocks from UK banks
One real advantage of a debit card is that your bank can stop it paying gambling merchants. The Commission keeps a list of banks offering blocks: Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds, Monzo, NatWest, RBS, Santander and Starling, with MBNA listed for spend tracking. Its page on blocking gambling transactions (opens in a new tab) is a good starting point.
- Monzo blocks card payments to merchants using the gambling code; you pick a cooldown from 2 days to 1 year before it can be switched off.
- Barclays uses a merchant control toggle in its app to stop debit card payments to gambling merchants.
- HSBC's debit card restriction also covers contactless and digital wallets, and payments are still declined for 3 days after you turn it off.
- Lloyds' gambling freeze is removed 48 hours after you switch it off, but it doesn't cover direct debits or bank transfers.
- Revolut's block covers card payments only, not bank transfers or payments through third-party apps.
Blocks rely on merchant codes, so a mis-tagged payment can slip through. Pair a block with GAMSTOP if you want a wider barrier, and read our full guide to bank gambling blocks.
Maestro, Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard in the UK
Older players may remember Switch and then Maestro as the UK's debit card. The Switch and Maestro merger was announced in August 2002, and Switch cards were out of circulation by 2010. First Direct and HSBC moved from Maestro to Visa Debit in January 2009; the RBS Group followed from September 2009, and Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank began switching to Debit Mastercard the same month.
Mastercard stopped issuing Maestro cards in Europe from 1 July 2023, according to the payments firm Adyen, and existing cards should stop working by 2027 at the latest. If your card still says Maestro, Coral and Ladbrokes list it, but expect your bank to replace it with a Debit Mastercard.
Where to use a debit card: partner offers and key terms
The three offers shown here are slot offers, and they suit a debit card deposit better than most e-wallets because cards are rarely on the exclusion lists. They are not table game offers: for blackjack or roulette, look at the casino's table game lobby and its terms. You must be 18 or over, and terms apply.
- Coral: deposit (certain types excluded) and bet £10+ on slots to get 100 free spins on selected games at 10p each. Accept within 48 hours; spins last 7 days; no wagering on winnings. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't qualify. Runs 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027.
- PlayOJO: new UK customers (not Northern Ireland) get 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each with a first deposit of £10 or more. No wagering, winnings paid as cash; offer only through the designated link and can't be combined.
- Ladbrokes: deposit and spend £10+ on slots to get 50 free spins a day for 10 days (500 maximum) at 10p each. Claim before 23:59 each day; spins valid 7 days; no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don't qualify.
Coral and Ladbrokes are run by the same company, so one person may not be able to open new accounts at both. Treat any deposit as money spent on entertainment: the house edge means losing it is the likely result over time.

All three offers below are slot offers that start with a first deposit, and a standard debit card is the usual way in. Coral says certain debit cards don't qualify, so check the full terms before you pay. 18+, terms apply.
Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open another; check the terms first.
Significant terms: 18+. New UK customers (excluding Northern Ireland). First deposit only. Minimum deposit £10. 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, £0.10 each. No wagering requirements; winnings paid in cash. Cannot be used with any other offer. Only available to players who arrive through the designated offer link. Full T&Cs apply. GamCare.org.uk

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a debit card at UK online casinos?
Yes, every one of our partner casinos lists debit cards for deposits, and Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard are accepted across the licensed UK market. You pay from money already in your current account, so nothing is borrowed. You will need to pass age and identity checks first, and many casinos limit how many cards you can add. See our casino payments hub for the alternatives to cards.
Why can't I use a credit card at a UK casino?
Credit cards have been banned for gambling in Great Britain since 14 April 2020. The rule sits in the Gambling Commission's licence condition 6.1.2 and covers credit card payments made through money service businesses too, so loading an e-wallet from a credit card and then paying the casino isn't allowed either. Debit cards are fine because they spend your own money. The question can I use a credit card at an online casino covers it in more depth.
How long do debit card withdrawals take?
It depends on the casino, and it runs from a few hours to a couple of days. At Coral and Ladbrokes, approval typically takes a couple of hours and Visa Fast Funds then typically lands within 4 hours. Casumo quotes up to 2 days for cards after approval, and 10bet up to 2 business days. PlayOJO says it processes most payments within a few hours. Read casino withdrawal times for a full comparison.
Do casinos charge fees on debit card payments?
Most of our partners don't charge for withdrawals, but there are exceptions. Neither Coral nor Ladbrokes charges withdrawal fees, by their own help pages. Casumo charges £3 when you withdraw less than £10 and nothing at £10 or more. PlayOJO and 10bet don't publish card fees, so check the cashier. Your bank may charge for payments in another currency, though a UK casino will normally take pounds. More detail is on our withdrawal fees page.
Can I claim a welcome bonus with a debit card deposit?
Usually, yes, because debit cards are the method least often excluded. Ladbrokes, PlayOJO and 10bet don't name debit cards in their exclusions, while Coral says certain debit cards won't qualify, so read its terms. Casumo says payment restrictions apply. All the offers come with conditions such as a minimum deposit or a £10 slot stake. Our guide to bonus terms covers the other conditions that matter.
Can I block my debit card from gambling?
Yes, most big UK banks let you block card payments to gambling merchants from their app. Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, Halifax, Monzo, NatWest, Santander and Starling are on the Commission's list. Some add a delay before the block can be removed, such as Monzo's chosen cooldown of 2 days to 1 year. Blocks may not cover bank transfers. The answer to can I block gambling payments with my bank has more.
Why was my debit card deposit declined?
The most common reasons are a bank gambling block, a deposit limit you set, or a card that doesn't match your verified details. At Coral and Ladbrokes, adding a fourth payment method within 30 days can also fail, because they allow three active methods in a rolling 30-day period. A card that turns out to be a credit card will always be refused. Check your banking app first, then contact the casino. Our deposit limits guide explains how limits work.
Can I withdraw to a different card from the one I deposited with?
Usually not straight away, because most casinos run a closed-loop policy. Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO all say withdrawals return to the deposit method where possible, which helps prevent fraud and money laundering. If the original card has expired, contact support, who may ask for proof before paying elsewhere. Our page on ID checks for withdrawals explains what the casino might need.
