Baccarat bonus: terms and true cost
A baccarat bonus is a casino offer that lets baccarat count towards its wagering, and most UK promotions either exclude the game or count only part of each stake. The reason is the Banker bet’s 1.06% edge. This guide works through the maths for each bet, the variants and side bets that change it, and the terms to check first.
Key takeaways
- Baccarat is often excluded from UK bonus wagering or given a low contribution rate.
- The Banker bet (1.06%) and Player bet (1.24%) are cheap to wager on; the Tie (14.36% at 8 to 1) is not.
- No-commission and Lightning versions change the edge, so check which table the terms allow.
- Scorecards and patterns don’t predict hands, and betting both sides is a pattern terms may prohibit.
- Our partner offers are slot-based; baccarat players should read each casino’s terms first.
- Banker bet edge
- 1.06% (pays 19 to 20)
- Player bet edge
- 1.24% (pays 1 to 1)

- 1.46% (8 decks)
- GB wagering cap
- 10x the bonus
Baccarat bonus: the quick answer
Most UK casino bonuses are not designed for baccarat. The game is commonly missing from the list of eligible games, or it counts at a reduced contribution rate, and the live version may be treated more strictly still. A few offers let baccarat count, but usually with a maximum bet and a contribution well below 100%.
Baccarat players run into this more than almost anyone, because the game’s main bets are among the cheapest in the casino. A bonus that could be wagered on Banker at full contribution would cost the casino only a little over 1% of the stakes. Understanding that maths makes it easy to see which offers are worth anything to you. For the broader picture of offer types, start at our casino bonuses hub.
Baccarat bonus maths: Banker, Player and Tie
Punto Banco gives you three main bets. Standard game maths from Wizard of Odds’ baccarat basics (opens in a new tab) puts their edges and outcomes as follows, for an eight-deck shoe.
| Bet | Wins how often | Pays | House edge | Expected loss on £300 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Banker | 45.86% of hands | 19 to 20 (1 to 1 less 5% commission) | 1.06% | £3.18 |
| Player | 44.62% of hands | 1 to 1 | 1.24% | £3.72 |
| Tie at 8 to 1 | 9.52% of hands | 8 to 1 | 14.36% | £43.08 |
| Tie at 9 to 1 | 9.52% of hands | 9 to 1 | 4.844% | £14.53 |
The £300 figure is the wagering on a £30 bonus at the 10x maximum, with full contribution. On the Banker bet, the expected cost is about £3. On the Tie bet paying 8 to 1, it is over £43, more than the bonus itself. Ties push Banker and Player bets, which is why those two win less than half the time yet still have low edges.
Tie payouts differ between tables. Wizard of Odds says 8 to 1 is found at almost all casinos, while other sources say 9 to 1 is common in UK casinos, so check the paytable of the table you are using before working out costs.
Commission, no-commission and Lightning baccarat under a bonus
Many online tables change how Banker is paid, and some add fees. Each version shifts the cost of wagering, and bonus terms sometimes allow one version and exclude another.
| Version | Rule change | Banker edge or cost |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Punto Banco | Banker pays 19 to 20 | 1.06% |
| No-commission (Super 6 rule) | Banker win on 6 pays 1 to 2, other Banker wins 1 to 1 | 1.46% (8 decks), 1.45% (6 decks) |
| EZ Baccarat | Banker win with a three-card 7 is a push | 1.02% (8 decks) |
| Lightning Baccarat (Evolution) | 20% Lightning Fee on each total bet; 2x–8x Lightning Cards | Developer gives no RTP on its page |
| Peek Baccarat (Evolution) | 20% fee to peek and then double or triple | Developer gives no RTP on its page |
The no-commission game feels simpler, but per Wizard of Odds’ commission-free analysis (opens in a new tab) it raises the Banker edge from 1.06% to 1.46%, so £1,000 of Banker wagering costs about £14.60 on average instead of £10.60. The Player and Tie edges stay the same as in the commission game. Fees on Lightning and Peek tables are on top of the main bet, so read the terms on whether the fee counts towards wagering.
Baccarat side bets and bonus contribution
Side bets are where a baccarat session gets expensive. Standard game maths gives these edges for common versions:
- Player Pair on one eight-deck electronic game paying 9 and 75: 5.27%; the Banker Pair version paying 9 and 68: 8.57%.
- Either Pair paying 5 to 1: about 13.71% with eight decks.
- Dragon Bonus: 2.65% on the Player side and 9.37% on the Banker side, with eight decks.
- EZ Baccarat’s Dragon 7 paying 40 to 1: 7.61%; Panda 8 paying 25 to 1: 10.19%.
Many terms exclude side bets from contribution. Even where they count, a side bet costs several times more per pound than Banker or Player. Our pair bets and Dragon Bonus pages explain the paytables.
Worked example: a baccarat bonus at reduced contribution
Contribution rates turn a cheap game into an expensive bonus. The 10% rate in this example is invented for illustration; real rates appear in each offer’s terms, if baccarat counts at all.
Take a £30 bonus with 10x wagering: £300 to clear. At 10% contribution, a £10 Banker bet clears £1, so you need £3,000 of stakes, or 300 hands at £10. At a 1.06% edge the expected loss is £31.80, slightly more than the £30 bonus. On the no-commission Banker bet at 1.46%, the expected loss would be £43.80.
Time adds up too. Evolution gives standard live baccarat at about 48 seconds a round and Speed Baccarat at 27 seconds. Three hundred hands would be roughly 4 hours on a standard table, or a little over 2 hours on Speed Baccarat, before any pauses.
Betting both sides, scorecards and prohibited baccarat play
Live baccarat tables show scorecards, often called roads, that track previous results. They are a record, not a forecast. Each hand is dealt from the shoe under fixed drawing rules, and a run of Banker wins doesn’t make Player more likely next. Following patterns during bonus play changes nothing about the expected cost.
Bonus terms may also prohibit betting on Banker and Player at the same time, or other patterns designed to churn wagering at low risk. The Gambling Commission’s guidance says any prohibited play must be clearly set out in the terms beforehand, and a casino can’t reserve sole discretion to decide what counts. Read that section and stay inside it; we don’t offer ways around terms, and breaching them can mean losing the bonus and its winnings.
Our baccarat strategy page explains why bet choice is the only real decision in the game.
UK bonus rules that apply to baccarat
- Wagering can’t be more than 10x the bonus, since 19 January 2026 (LCCP code 5.1.1). See our 10x wagering cap page.
- A promotion can’t combine casino with other gambling products such as sports betting.
- Significant conditions must be shown clearly with the offer, and full terms must be no more than one click away.
- Your deposit balance can be withdrawn at any time during a bonus, and wagering can’t apply to it.
- Since 17 January 2025, autoplay is banned on all online casino games, and non-slot games must allow at least 5 seconds per game cycle.
- The £5 and £2 stake limits are for online slots only, so baccarat stake caps during a bonus come from the offer.
The Commission’s guidance on transparency of terms (opens in a new tab) explains how significant conditions must be presented. Our bonus terms guide translates the common clauses into plain English.
Checking a baccarat bonus step by step
- Find the eligible-games list and check whether baccarat is included, and which versions (live, RNG, no-commission, Lightning).
- Note the contribution rate and whether side bets or fees count.
- Work out stakes needed: bonus × wagering multiple ÷ contribution rate.
- Apply the edge of the bet you would use: 1.06% Banker, 1.24% Player, or the figure for your variant.
- Compare the expected loss with the bonus value.
- Check the maximum bet and the time limit against your usual stake and how many hands that means.
- Set a deposit limit before you play, whichever way you decide.
If the numbers don’t work, skip the offer. Baccarat played with cash leaves your whole balance withdrawable, and you lose nothing by declining a bonus that wasn’t built for the game.
Live baccarat and RNG baccarat with a bonus
Terms often draw a line between live baccarat and software versions. Live tables are costly to run and may be excluded where RNG baccarat counts. Within live baccarat, formats vary: Speed Baccarat deals face-up in 27-second rounds, while Squeeze tables slow the reveal for drama. The edges on Banker and Player are the same either way; only the pace and any fees change.
Card counting doesn’t help either. Baccarat’s edges barely move as the shoe is dealt, and our answer on counting cards in baccarat explains why.

Frequently asked questions
Can you use a casino bonus on baccarat?
Sometimes, but often not at full value. Many UK offers exclude baccarat from wagering or count it at a reduced rate, and live baccarat may be excluded where RNG versions count. The reason is the low edge on Banker and Player. Check the eligible-games list in the offer’s terms. Our game weighting guide explains how contribution rates work.
Which baccarat bet is best for bonus wagering?
The Banker bet has the lowest edge, at 1.06% in standard eight-deck baccarat, followed by Player at 1.24%. The Tie bet is far more expensive at 14.36% when it pays 8 to 1. If a bonus lets baccarat count, Banker keeps the expected cost lowest, though it never removes it. Our answer on always betting Banker covers the detail.
Does no-commission baccarat cost more with a bonus?
Yes, on the Banker bet. Under the common Super 6 rule, a Banker win on 6 pays only 1 to 2, which lifts the Banker edge from 1.06% to about 1.46% with eight decks. On £1,000 of wagering that is around £14.60 of expected loss instead of £10.60. Player and Tie stay the same. Our no-commission baccarat page explains the rule.
Do baccarat side bets count towards a bonus?
Often they don’t, and they cost far more when they do. Pair bets, Either Pair and Dragon Bonus carry edges from about 2.65% to over 13%, depending on the bet and paytable. Terms frequently exclude them from contribution. Read the weighting table carefully. Our baccarat side bets page lists the main ones and their edges.
Can I bet Banker and Player together to clear wagering?
Bonus terms may list this as prohibited play, so check before you bet. Gambling Commission guidance requires prohibited patterns to be spelled out in the terms, and breaching them can lead to the bonus and its winnings being removed. Betting both sides also doesn’t remove the house edge. Our page on what counts as bonus abuse explains how these rules work.
How long does it take to wager a baccarat bonus?
It depends on the stakes needed and the table speed. Evolution gives standard live baccarat at about 48 seconds a round and Speed Baccarat at 27 seconds. Three hundred hands therefore take roughly 4 hours on a standard table, or a little over 2 hours on Speed Baccarat. Our speed baccarat page covers that format.
Do slot stake limits apply to baccarat bonuses?
No. The £5 stake limit for players aged 25 and over, and £2 for those aged 18 to 24, apply only to online slots. Baccarat has no legal stake cap of that kind, but bonus terms usually set a maximum bet while the bonus is active. Our slot stake limits page explains the legal scope.
Is it better to play baccarat without a bonus?
For many baccarat players, yes. If baccarat is excluded or counts at a low rate, a bonus mainly adds restrictions without much value. Playing with cash keeps your balance fully withdrawable and your bet sizes your own choice. Work out the expected cost before deciding. Our guide on whether to take a bonus walks through the decision.
